What PAL/NTSC Laserdisc players would you recommend me?
Time
I am in the process of trying to buy a Pioneer LD-V8000/V800 player but apparently it can only play NTSC discs. I am pretty sure that most of the (likely very few) discs available here are NTSC, but just to be sure I'd like to know if you guys could recommend me a player that can handle both PAL and NTSC and is on the same league as the V8000/V800.

I see, thanks for the information. I have a couple more questions: it seems that the japanese version of the V8000 (the V800) has BNC connectors instead of the usual RCA ones and I need to know if that would that make a difference in output quality. I'd also like to know wether the V800 has any other differences versus the V8000 (I don't know where to look for specifics like the diagram you mention) and if either is best connected to the capture card through composite rather than S-Video.

Info Wanted: Charlie Chaplin shorts - where can I find them?
Time
OgOggilby, my father and I recently finished watching Vol1 of the Essanay shorts and we are very disappointed. What we wanted was the shorts that usually aired on TV, which lasted about 15mins (20 at most) each and were pretty much filled with hilarious moments and gags. This Vol1 of the Essanay sets is in my honest opinion an extremely boring and dull collection of ~30min reduced-length movies with very few funny moments.
I assume all of the Essanay shorts will be like this, do you think the Mutual and/or Keystone ones might be the ones my father and I are looking for?

P.S: I do admit that the transfer is of exceptional quality though: the picture is amazingly clear and only very fast scenes and certain parts where it seems like some sections were cut (couldn't be restored, I guess) hint at this being made from a very old source.

That looks like chroma shifting to me, although the only filter I know that corrects those kind of issues (chromashift) can only correct RGB shifts IIRC. If it's not chroma shifting, you could try searching the Doom9 forums for DeHalo_Alpha, it's one of the best halo removers I've ever seen.

Laserman, is the Pioneer LD-V8000 that good? How come it doesn't get more recommendations around here then?

Good capture card?

That's about as good as it gets for analog capture.

I don't know about that one, but the best I've seen so far is the Compro VideoMate Ultra. It produces some really amazing results and has 3D Y/C separation. The following model is the Compro VideoMate X800. For more information, check out this page, specifically the WeatherMapRoundup.

HELP! Trying to Extend Jay&SilentBobStrikeBack! HELP!

You're wrong. The aspect ratio is not related to the number of pixels in the horizontal and vertical direction, it has to do with how the movie was encoded. Take a look at Amazon's page for this DVD:

http://www.amazon.com/Silent-Strike-Back-Dimension-Collectors/dp/B00003CY67/sr=8-1/qid=1160510369/ref=pd_bbs_1/104-7058592-3206350?ie=UTF8

, it clearly states that the movie's aspect ratio is 2.35:1. Also, anamorphic widescreen encoding refers to [URL=]encoding the movie as 16:9 instead of 4:3 (fullscreen) as you can see here:

http://www.videohelp.com/dvd

and in each case the resizing settings are different.
