I agree that it is completely misleading and deceptive. As is Roger & Me. Just not quite as malicious in intent. That's why you won't find Roger & Me in the documentary or special interest sections at Blockbuster, but in the comedy section.

Regardless of how off Moore is in his interpretation of the truth, you do still have to give him credit for revitalizing interest in docs on the whole. How many people really gave a damn before Roger & Me came out? And how many more are watching since BFC?

The problem with documentaries (as I learned in a grad school course on documentaries) is that there is not a single truly objective documentary film out there. Some are more objective than others. But none are 100% objective. Not even Ken Burns if you can believe that. And if there was ever a documentarian that appeared objective on first viewing, it's Burns.

Then there are those that just completely push the envelope like Moore. Or should I say "tears right through the envelope leaving it behind in his dust." At least he brings greater exposure to the genre. That's what I say about it.

Mark Hocker wrote in to tell me that he'd joined channel.com, a new website run by Universal. That's nice, I thought, but what was interesting was that in the brochure he got the "Star Wars" trilogy (Episodes IV-VI) are listed as coming to DVD next year. So far the information has been that we would see these no sooner than 2005. Lucasfilm never give much away so we'll have to wait and see for now, but when Mark phoned up the website, they confirmed the rumour to be true. Thanks for writing Mark.

As Gundark said in another thread about this, why would Universal be listing the SW OT on DVD when the films were distributed by Fox in the first place?

Scarlett Johannsen is looking to be one of the better young actresses around. She's pretty picky about her stuff and has never really gone all too commercial which I give her snaps for. Kinda living the Christina Ricci life (well, the CR life of the last five years since she started go nearly 100% low budget). Both are kinda playing the game on their own terms. You gotta respect that.

I really want to see this one as I've made abundantly clear. I also kinda dug Sofia Coppola's debut with the Virgin Suicides. That was a decent film.

That history of the USA I don't think was done by them ("them" being Matt Stone and Trey Parker) but I could be wrong. But it was funny nonetheless.

What you're referring to is the Michigan Militia. And, yes, it was hilarious. I also liked the scene where he interviews Terry's brother (I can't remember the last name of "Terry" the guy who helped in the bombing of the Murrah building in Oklahoma City... damned brainfarts) at his farmhouse.

That actually looks pretty decent. It's out now here in the States. I also want to see Cabin Fever. Looks like it might be good. Along with the new Bill Murray film Lost in Translation and Nic Cage's Matchstick Men. A heckuva fall so far. Good looking smaller budget films in droves.
