I’m not sure why we have this argument every few months. Tatooine has blue skies. Get over it.

Saying ‘get over it’ is kinda considered snarky my guy

Yeah, I know. I was referencing an infamous Star Wars video title, “The special editions ARE the movies, get over it” by Rick Worley. I wasn’t being serious with that line. Either way, I’m sorry for being brass.

fair enough! I love a good reference so nice callback, i stand corrected!

Hopefully Adywan is okay, haven’t heard from him in months at this point.

He logs in daily, you can see on his page

Not sure how i could be logging in daily when i have had no access to interent for a long time.

Now i need to go back through the threads to see whayti have missed.

when you go to someone’s page it says last time they logged in. So if you haven’t, than its a site issue, because that’s what it says when you click on someone’s profile, where you can see where they last commented/ last day they logged in.
specifically “last activity” and it has the date that corresponds to that.

Oh, I know. He’s using models too. But I do like how this guy added the X-wing coming in and the engine glow to the ship outside.

Cool vid but, I think Adywan is going to replace the shuttle entirely with a new cargo ship…

yup I agree, good ideas.

I’m currently working on an experiment to add in accurate light flashes and recompositing the laser blasts during the Detention Shootout scene using AI-powered depth maps to relight the scene. For the laser blasts, I tried to add some realistic glow and motion blur so they looked a bit more physically accurate and less stylized. For the light flashes I added it’s subtle in motion because you only see them for a frame or two.

Here’s an example image:

Here’s a clip in motion:

Thoughts and opinions are very needed and encouraged.

I think this is awesome, very promising

Everything I said was in the context of the second clip which is for ANH. Therefore I stand by everything I said. The ROTJ video looks pretty good, it was actually recommended to me a few days ago if you can believe it. I was just “criticizing” (which btw this is a forum not an echo chamber) the first video.

Gotta lead with that next time.

But also I’m providing my context, which is different roles and people can tackle different tasks, clearly color was off but that dive down shot of the formation split of the Y wings and X wings and the sun in the background… pretty sick stuff. You know you pick the good stuff, not tear the whole thing apart. (though you get credit for specifying color standpoint, which btw I never thought the color was great either, but I thought that kind of went without saying… but I guess I have to be extremely punctual and concise with my prefacing)
Have Ady mask some stuff off adjust the color and contrast, boom. off to next thing in the pipeline. I stand by what I said.

I can believe someone recommended it to you, cause you know, its pretty solid. Came up in my algo. Anyways just trying to help this Andreas fellow and Ady. I’ll just sit back now

From a color standpoint it looks horrendous. The contrast (which is already crushed to hell in the blu-ray had been cracked to 11, such completely undermines the HDR. Also, Adywan has pretty much finished the HD version and is finishing up and entering into the audio side of things (from what I can gather). I don’t recall him asking for fx help…

straight from the word press site. New Year 2025 Update:
"Back to ROTJ:R now …

In a few months, once the graded source file is complete and the editing had begun, I will be putting a shout-out for help with FX work. I will need more help for this edit so I can ease the workload not only on myself but also Andreas who has been relentlessly doing the CG model work for these edits since ESB:R. So keep an eye out for this."

from a color standpoint yes. Fairly obvious, I’m talking as someone modeling, animating, etc, Ady can handle the color, AND can provide art VFX direction. Its not face value. In the work I do I’m constantly asked to tweak color, adjust things, all the time. It goes without saying. Anyways just tryin to help do some talent sourcing, but like everything on the internet, everyone’s a critic.

Also yes to him finishing up ANH, but you never know on that end, there’s probably still help that can be needed, and it most likely is the last shots in that Yavin battle I’d wager a guess (I’m wagering a guess, emphasizing here, I’m not a fly on the wall in his editing suite) and I was mostly sharing this for ROTJ inspiration anyway. Thought that first guys stuff was solid, can do a few shots here and there and take the workload off of Ady and Andreas. It takes a village

The second one is just awful. He’s made the OT look worse in order to help it be less jarring with his renders.

I mean that’s a little harsh. Anyways I remember Ady putting out a call for FX help and this stuff looked really solid. Harsh edges and things of that ilk can be adjusted with direction and revisions. You can always clean up, soften a frame, etc with time and adjustments. Anyways just saw some decent talent and thought to toss in here for some possible inspo or networking.

also
besides the funny unexpected ending and maybe the planet looking a tad wonky, dang does this look good- while still respectfully looking like the spirit of the 1983 effects.
I know Ady does SOME CGI ship replacements with animated digital 3d Models, maybe this guy can help out the final space battle?

He must have a better eye than me. I’ve watched RotJ many times and it took me ten years to notice that lol.

i mean not to toot my own horn but i remember even when I was a kid going "where did the bottom part of the mask go in that specific tilted down shot (actually kid me thought was probably more simply: where the bottom of the mask go)? but I’ve always been crazily observant and a sort of stickler for details, and now am in the industry myself, so go figure! but we all miss stuff all the time. there’s stuff Ady has fixed that many didn’t even know was an inconsistency.

Honestly, I’m starting to get very fearful right now.

What are you talking about? Are you ok?

Sorry, I just feel extremely worried about all these things that kept getting in the way of the Revisited edits being finished.

its been like this since the beginning. since 2006, its just how it is. Life gets in the way sometimes, but as Dr Malcolm would say, “life finds a way”

Latest update:

It’s 2025. I hope everyone had a great Christmas and New Year.

I think its a great idea to do the video blogs and I think its a great idea to do 3D printing and outsource more CG work, its just what’s necessary. Trust me there’s many who want to help who have the skills and know how. You should try and direct the replacement sandtrooper shots remotely. Somebody somewhere has the exact armor/costume you need for that shot, lives somewhere where there is sun, and someone near that person can rent out a camera package and get you those shots, second unit style. It just needs to get coordinated/ funds to execute properly, but that way you don’t have to wait till summer. Find people via instagram, facebook, or channels on youtube

gonna donate!!!

For sure, i’m just wondering how that would be sorted out, visually with another actor, a line of dialogue, which film/films that would be shown, heard in, etc.

I mean, you can’t just have another dude be Vader before the suit, it’s an edit that attempts to hide the reveal that Vader is Anakin, not one that actually makes Vader and Anakin separate ppl.

Well yeah I’m fully aware of that, but I’m wondering how Adywan, would tackle Ben’s line of dialogue’s suggestion, how it would be inferred while watching his versions of the films. If we are watching in order, and we get to ANH, how did obi wan’s “other apprentice” get to be this dude in a black suit. Do we ever see his other apprentice? Do we hear he had another apprentice that disappeared, fell to the darkside, etc and we don’t know what happened? When Darth Vader shows up are we supposed to assume it was Obi Wan’s “second” or “first” pupil? Do we just roll with it, when that line is spoken? Its a good question, I’d like to hear out how he might have gone about solving it.
