Help Wanted: Knight Rider restoration
Time

I’ve just viewed the casino scene on the broadcast and there’s nothing there that’s not on the Blu-ray, and there’s definitely no “Always on my mind”. I think that’s a red herring.
I have to say though, that this brings back memories of a TV version I had recorded a long time ago, where scenes were missing, and some were all out of sequence, in particular around the time where Michael had fallen asleep at the wheel. If I come across this on my VHS tapes at some point (which is doubtful to be honest) it might have that scene!

I know, not always most the reliable source, but it claims during the casino sequence (I think) in part one…

‘There is also an extra scene featuring Willie Nelson’s rendition of Elvis Presley’s “Always On My Mind” featured in television screenings, but not on the DVD version.’

Hmm that doesn’t sound familiar to me, and I’ve seen both versions in the past. However I’ll give it a look / listen. The Wiki entry reads as though it’s an extra scene, not just a music change. It would be unusual for a scene to be added to a syndicated 2 parter as they normally need to trim them for timing rather than add to them 😄

Have you checked the Spike transmissions? 😃

They’re showing the first season daily and S1 EP3 is set to air at 11:45 this morning.

I’ve got them recording, yes ☺️
However I think it’s more than likely they are using copies from the same source as both channels are under the same umbrella company (at least that’s my understanding anyway).

Thanks for the idea though!

Forces TV today reached the first KR that was cut on Blu-Ray. Unfortunately the broadcast was also cut.,making it likely that the episodes in Season 4 will be recently struck from the masters and therefore lacking the stereo sound.
We’ll wait and see I guess.

There is of course a chance that the stereo soundtracks simply don’t exist any more 😞

Just looked at it. Great to see those teasers again!
Although I haven’t got time to reinsert them all at the moment, I may have a go at one of them as a proof of concept.

The missing scene from the Pilot was also good to see. As is common in these situations, the audio is of a good enough standard to get a seamless restoration. It’s the few moments of picture that would give it away, given we’re working with HD material.

I’m sure we’ll get a decent result at some point though!

Well done Lorang 😀
I’m not going to get a chance to grab it until I get on my PC, but I’m looking forward to to taking a look!
Out if interest what is the source of the teasers?
I’m pretty sure the UK DVD set has the Season 3 teasers (not sure about season 2) so between us we should be able to get the full set.
Also, it is showing on Forces TV at the moment in the UK. The bad news is there’s only 1 episode a week, but the good news is they’re currently on season 3,so I’ll make sure I record the episodes listed above to see if they contain the missing music.

That’s great news, thanks for the update.
The teasers will be a lot of work so I’ll put that down as a project to complete in the future.
The audio fixes are easy once we can get a source for them. It appears from what Lorang says that the Italian set is a possible source for them. If no one else has done so beforehand I’ll try to obtain that some time next year.
The pilot is the only episode that may not be fixable in a seamless way. I’ll wait to see the quality of Lorang’s source and we can go from there.
Loving the enthusiasm in this thread 😄

Thanks Lorang, very interesting. Unfortunately my personal financial situation has taken a sudden turn, so I am not in a position to invest in DVDs etc for now. This will hopefully change around April next year.
If you are able to share the clip from the VHS, along with the Italian dvd source, I’ll see what I can pull together if you like? I’m happy with whatever sharing method you choose to use. Google drive always works well for me so if you want to do that method send me a pm so I can share my email with you.

EDIT - sorry just seen you don’t have the Italian dvd. Like I said I’m happy to get it in the future but can’t right now. Is it still missing footage, or is it silent where murdock is singing? If it’s just silent that would be the best visual source, which should combine well with either the English track from that DVD, or as a fall back the audio from the VHS you have. Perhaps the Italian download you have will be good enough (if it hasn’t been compressed), so I’m happy to give it a shot with that and the VHS audio

I have dug out my old DVRs that I recorded off UK Gold ditectly onto my Hard Drive Recorder then I placed them on my Pc to edit out the breaks then back onto DVR, I played Cup O Joes this morning image wise as good as DVD and thankfully I think 90% of them dont have logo’s a rarity for the channel at the time, dont know which part of the episode to check for music replacement?

I you want to point in the direction of which part of any of these episodes to check for cuts or music replacements I will.

Great collection you’ve got there, and potentially some good sources for the restoration.
As I stated in an earlier post, unfortunately I am not as familiar with each episode of The A-team as I am with Knight Rider. I am relying on others to know what edits exist and therefore I don’t know any particular times/scenes.
What I will be able to do is piece together any edits using the Blu-ray as the initial source. In particular music only edits should be seamless once I’m done.
If someone out there can put some times to the edits listed at the top then that would be great, but to avoid any confusion state the source you are viewing. PAL recordings will normally be sped up!
