Well I'm not sure how and where to upload it. I was going to get Ripplin to do it, but he can't anymore.
Well I'm not sure how and where to upload it. I was going to get Ripplin to do it, but he can't anymore.
Hey guys, I'm filling out a submission for for Fanedit right now, but I hadn't kept track of all the cuts in the film. There has to be hundreds of them. What should I do?
DVD is burned. I'm going to ship it to Ripplin on Monday. I'm still super broke and I have no idea how I will make it through this next year (God help me) - but I'm not losing hope. Also, the reason I've been so reluctant to take donations were because I haven't really put money into this project, wholly for its sake. I mean sure I've spent over a grand for equipment, but that's equipment I would have needed either way. I'm also not a charity case to take donations because I'll fall about $300 short of my budget a month over the next year, and I hold zero entitlement to profits over this edit itself.
Here is what I will say though, if (and only if) you were to watch the edit and thought you would like to donate money for buying better equipment for my future films (and I don't mean just the fan-edits - although I would use it for fan-edits as well) - short films to be specific, I will gladly take them. I'll be uploading a couple of my short films to vimeo soon, and once I do, people can watch what I've done so far before decided whether or not they would like to donate to my future film prospects.
I'm sorry it's taken me so long to reply. I've been swamped with so many things this Summer - it was ridiculous.
I'll be keeping CLU and Bit in mine. I don't plan on making changes to the plot, only some slight enhancements to the visuals as well as the music and sound mix. CLU will also be staying yellow as that's the colour CLU is - Yellow. When a program is corrupted or controlled it is red/orange as seen in Tron: Legacy and even the MCP's controlled programs in Tron. I currently have a $300 debt on my head and I'm out of a job. Once I get a job, I can pay that debt off, but then I still need to put aside about a thousand dollars a month until September for the fall term. Whatever money I have left will be going to:
Shipping out Star Wars: Renascent
Loading my computer with more RAM
Buying a bluray player/burner for my computer
Buying Tron and Tron: Legacy on BluRay
I didn't give you guys the update because I was too embarrassed to say, but I can't afford to mail out Renascent to Ripplin right now. I'm honestly about a hundred dollars in debt. I have food, rent is paid, phone bill is paid, but I'm currently out of a job and don't see myself getting one until May. I'm really sorry guys. Hopefully when the semester is over I can get my tax returns filled out and sent and get some money ASAP. I've also got a few things in the classifieds to get sold.
Sorry again guys!
My votes for bluray!
Well I'm at my parents' house right now for a reunion, but when I get back I'm going to master the DVDs and send them to Ripplin (if he's still up for it). Should be ONLINE within a month.

And I don't even think I've released any TPM flashbacks yet?
Did I dream the inclusion of Qui-Gon's death in your featured Jedi Knights sequence?
It's possible I suppose...Leonardo, Ellen, Tom...what you all doing in my post?
Yeah, that scene wasn't included. :P

That was a great clip! I love how you obscure Anakin's face as well as the color treatment. Can't wait to see this thing.
Did it looked like Anakin still? Because I was trying to make it look menacing but also mask the fact that it was Anakin... I hope I accomplished this above all.
No I thought that you masked that it was Anakin well. A viewer who hasn't seen ROTS wouldn't know it was Anakin.
Alright, solid!

The one thing that stood out for me, and was a definite plus, was how Vader's stupid red eyes didn't show anymore, because of the high saturation. Now it makes it seem as if Ben is talking about a dark, evil and menacing entity, with the footage shown fortifying it even more.

awesome job man on that clip.
Thank you

The music was a bit obtrusive during Ben's dialogue and the flashback to TPM didn't seem necessary really but otherwise a really evocative clip.
I re-adjusted the music and dialogue once more before the final render - this issue should be resolved. And I don't even think I've released any TPM flashbacks yet?

To make it more consistent with Episode I's love for fart jokes, when Han finds Luke in the beginning of Empire, have him pull out a blanket, cover Luke, and fart into it. "This may smell bad, kid, but it'll keep you warm."
Ahahahahaha, this is full of win.
DVDs are prepared. I'll be mastering them tomorrow if time permits.

oh my god that clip was AWESOME!
I seriously can't wait to see this edit when it's done.
You're going to eventually do this for Empire and Jedi too, right?
Yeah, I'm going to move on to Empire once ESB:R is released (with ady's permission!) and provided I can afford to get a bluray reader/writer for my computer as well as SW on BD.

A-Man, the change in colour in that clip is, yeah I'll just say it, goddamn freaking brilliant! Everything all different shades of red, save for the sabers. It's beautiful, really beautiful!!
The footage used for when Ben told Luke about Ani was spot on, absolutely flawless. Remarkable work there!
Thanks! I thought red with high saturation would be good as it would reflect all the bloodshed in ROTS and if you notice it progressively gets stronger as Ben talks more about the past. I also used this as a way of masking Anakin's face when he turns to the screen as Vader. TPM flashbacks have a yellowish, grainy, low-saturated look to portray them as super out-dated.
Also, I'm not sure if you noticed, but the transitions go from Luke to Anakin and in the end Anakin/Vader to Luke (and in the latter you can hear vader breathing).

So...What information do u need so i can buy this film from u?
You have been here a while now so you should have already read the rules. The edits here ARE NOT FOR SALE. they are made available for free. Once the edits are finished it is usually announced where you can find them. But you will never be able to buy them
A-Man, good to see that you're on the last stretch now. i bet its a relief for you to have this all finished and out there
ady is correct. Only thing I'd ask money for is if you wanted me to ship you a copy with the case and cover - and it would just be a few dollars to print the cover, get a case and ship it - no profit ...or you could just download the labels and ISOs yourself and just burn it at home.
And yeah ady it is a huge relief! I think in about a week I'll be 100% done.
Riiiggghhhttt. I should've known that. Idiot.
Anyways, looks great and i cannot wait to see it.
No worries! And the wait is almost over! :P

Thanks for the feedback! It's mostly just longer cuts back and forth. Drawing similarities is sometimes directly linked simultaneously, sometimes intercut, sometimes the following scene and sometimes one is at the beginning of the film and one at the end - so the audience has a chance to draw their own reflections without me having to sit it down in front of them - this also makes it possible to better avoid confusion.
Sweet, sounds good. I'm very excited for this.
Here's the final clip I'm posting - titled "The Jed Knights"
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zlCszi46i8c
Again, the music bleed occurs in the stereo version but not the 5.1 version.
Just watched the clip too. Awesome! Just for the audio, I might consider lowering the tone and raising the base in your voice - maybe adding slight reverb and lower the attack on the "S"s and "T"s. Also consider added room tone so that you don't get abrupt cuts of audio or use "reduce noise" and audio fades to solve this. These are just some things I've learned this year in my Sound Design course.
Just saw the Teaser. Can I give a suggestion?
Keep the entire thing in B&W, but have Anakin in colour. Whenever he does a dark deed, lower his saturation slightly so that it isn't too noticeable but that by the end, he is completely B&W, with the exception of his eyes (yellow) - symbolizing how he was the chosen one and the person who was supposed to save them all but he blended into nothingness. Also you could keep the lasers and sabers in colour.
Something like that would take a long time, but if you like the idea just don't want to do it, if you passed your completed version to me I could help you with it? The most effective way to do it would be through roto-brushing (new to After Effects CS5).
Here's a video I worked on which demonstrates what I'm talking about:
Digital Copy rendered - it's over 6GBs though... I'm going to try and convert it smaller using Xilisoft or something.
Just a small note - this film was editing for 5.1 surround sound - when listening to it in stereo, you may experience slight music bleed; if you watch it in surround sound you won't experience it though.
However, in the scenes that music bleed is obvious it WAS intentional - an example of this is during the Tusken Raider's attack on Luke. I mixed a track from Prince of Persia: Forgotten Sands with the original music. It is intentional.
I sure hope so! I'm rendering the digital copy now.
Hey ady, I got a technical question for you,
What's the best filetype and settings to render a digital copy of a full-length film under 1GB?
I'm rendering the audio now. After this I just gotta render a WMV or compressed AVI version for the Digital Copy and then burn and ship the DVD. I'm also going to make some slight adjustments to the DVD cover and sometime between the release and before I begin work on Part II, I'll record and release an audio commentary track online.
Adjusted the audio/video alignment, fixed the last of the small errors and replaced music in one scene and did a mix in two (mixing Williams with two other composers).
Video file is now rendering!
Thanks ben!
Alright guys, I got that short film of mine done (for my application to the continuation program of what I am currently studying).
If anyone was interested, here it is: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=llykaN_cbD4&hd=1
I'm going to try to get to work on Renascent now, just touching things up.
