Huh, maybe EVERYBODY knows this but I just noticed that Luke says something in trash compacter just after Leia says "could be worse" and just before Han says "it is worse". But you don't hear him say anything, you only see his mouth move.

I have some other movies on LD (jurassic park, speed, aladdin, indiana jones). They all look fine!

EDIT: there seems to be a difference in brightness between capturing with video or s-video cables ( I captured with video but watched with s-video). Moth3r, I'll upload a raw capture sample and give you the link. Could you have a look at it and tell me by how much I should adjust the brightness?

I'm almost done with my transfer. Tomorrow I'll send HOPE and EMPIRE to Metallaxis. He is willing to upload them for me at myspleen. Thanks Metallaxis!

All dvds will be dual layer versions (I don't have SL versions). There are no menus. All dvds will have the original laserdisc chapterpoints. Audio is 1536 kbps LPCM. Videobitrate is as high as possible (10 pass encode just to be sure! / maximum is 8200 kbps, average about 7500 kbps). The only thing I changed about the movies is the aspect ratio. I turned them into anamorphic widescreen (cutting off the french subs from). Contrast, brightness, noise is all as it is on the laserdisc. The quality of the image is not as good as the bitrate would suggest, I just used such a high bitrate to keep the quality loss to a minimum. Some people will think the picture is too dark, sorry that's how it is on the laserdisc. The PAL lds I used look very different compared to the DC. The DC has a SHARPER image!

I use DVD-lab pro. When you select "project > pre-mastering > set layer break..." you can select the dvd files on your hdd and DVD-lab will show you the chapters with sector number you can use for the layer break.

EDIT: I never burned a DL dvd ...yet. But I assume Nero will automatically use the layer break as it is set in the IFO file of the source files.

It comes from a Star Wars puzzle that came out around 96. I tried to scan it high-res from the box, but it has this glitter effect that comes out purple when scanned.

I think OCP scanned that one, not sure, but I thought I saw it in his thread..

Yes. The THX Demo DVD that contains the THX WOW montage was also re-done in stunning anamorphic and has the original Deathstar II explosion and Sebastian Shaw as Anakin's ghost at the end of ROTJ. Sadly I think they are missing enough frames on either end of the clip to prevent their usage in restoration efforts.

The Sebastian Shaw clip is about 2 seconds to short. But the quality is very good. Yesterday I rembered that scene and looked it up to see if I could use it.

30 fps at 720 x 480 should take as much space as 25 fps at 720 x 576 (unless 30 fps is actually 24 pulldown maybe?). But still, from 5.8 to something like 4 is a big difference even with the resolution difference.

The m2v file of the 2004 PAL DVD (a new hope) is 5.8 gig.
