Should I compress sound?

So, I think I'll just stick to 44100. Less hassle.

What exactly do you mean by "compress sound". Changing the volume by dynamic range compression, overall lower audio, normalization? Or dou you mean compressing the file so the file size gets smaller?

Do you know if the source was 44.1 khz or 48.0 khz? If you resampled from 1 to the other the audio can sound distorted.

Help: looking for... Belbucus PCM for ANH, ESB, ROTJ

What I wanted to do is have 2 DTS tracks (768 kbps each) for the theatrical version of Star Wars. One for the mono mix and one for the Dolby stereo track. As I understand it now the mono mix was actually played in theatres through one central speaker. So encoding a DTS track with the mono track as the centre channel will be accurate as how it was played in cinemas, correct?
But if I encode the dolby stereo mix as a stereo DTS file it will play as just stereo, it cannot be encoded to surround by the audio hardware. So that won't be a cinema accurate representation, correct?
Low frequency audio is automatically rerouted to the subwoofer no matter if it's PCM, ac3 or dts and even if the subwoofer channel doesn't contain an audio track, correct?

Yes, the idea is that those 2 channels contain matrixed surround information. Play the audio through a Pro-logic decoder and you will get 4 channel output. This is the same process used in theaters for Dolby Stereo tracks.
4 channel? No centre speaker?

Sorry, I honestly didn't get it (maybe the only one!). I thought he was referring to a certain number of processors or something else. Thanks for clarifying.

No problem

For the second question : A mono AC3 will play from only the center speaker on a 5.1 system and on both speakers on a stereo system.

So maybe the best thing would be to just encode 3 AC3 tracks... mono mix centre channel, mono mix in lf and lr channel, dolby stereo as dd 2.0 surround. Does the Dolby Stereo PCM contain the matrixed surround information?

Is it true dd2.0 can only be encoded at a maximum bitrate of 320 to be muxed ok with the video file? If I encode a dd2.0 file at a higher bitrate I can't use it in dvd-lab pro.

Bebucus, are you going to release the mono mix as PCM? Please?

Whoops yes, I meant speakers.

What I wanted to know
For the stereo mix, if I want to recreate the audio on a 5.1 system as closely as it was heard in cinemas how would I do that. If I encode it as AC3 stereo in surround mode, would that be accurate? That way there's audio coming from all speakers. I actually want to encode it as DTS but that way the decoder can't turn it in to surround sound but it will be plain stereo only.
For the mono mix, was there the same audio coming from all the speakers? I mean if I want to recreate the audio on a 5.1 set should I just fill every channel with the mono track? Or should I just use the centre channel? Or maybe just front left, centre and front right?

PAL speedup & pitch-corrected DVD's

The only time it's noticed is when it introduces digital artefacts into the audiom e.g. LOTR: FOTR.

What, the audio of my LOTR: FOTR dvd has artifacts? Do you have an example were in the movie I can hear that? How bad is it?

Not going to be a big help, but... www.dvd.net.au sometimes mentions if a dvd is pitch corrected but I couldn't find the movie you were looking for. I think if it's not mentioned in a review under the audio section it isn't pitch corrected. Maybe you know of a few titles that are pitch corrected and you can check if it is mentioned in the review. One I know of is "The Dead Zone".

For my personal Star Wars edit I took the best of both the PAL and NTSC systems. It's encoded at 23,976 fps progressive at a resolution of 720x576 and pulled down to 25 fps Excellent audio (thanks to belbucus) and excellent picture

I think when a nuke is dropped the last thing I'm going to worry about is EMP {{{EDIT: sorry, didn't read your next message}}}
But better to be save than sorry so we better turn our houses into Faraday cages
If it realy would be a big threat I think it's not that difficult to shield electrical equipment against EMP.

It sure sounds like that, but I doubt he is. TR-47 is/was a smart dude, just one of ill-motivation. I remember when TR-47 was on the board, and their posting styles are totally different. TR-47 wrote his posts well. I think RemixerBoss is just kind of an idiot who's trying to get all the attention he can, and now that he can't anymore because he's proven himself an idiot, he's trying to claim to be someone who he knows has had lots of attention focused on him.

Exactly. Plus, it's TR47 not TR-47.
