Thanks for these. Especially the syncs.

If I wanted to use the SW and ESB syncs for Harmy's latest versions, is it just a matter of minor edits to do so? I seem to recall there being a frame difference in SW, but can't remember where. How about ESB?

I'm also interested in the frame differences between NTSC and PAL GOUT.

According to Darth Mallwalker for ROTJ it's PAL frame 68664 & 68665 and NTSC frame 141780.

Does anyone know the frame differences for SW and TESB?

Well, actually, to be honest, when I made the mask for the cropping, I made the edges round - they are not like that on the BD - I just like it this way, because it gives the whole thing a more film-like feel. I'm actually pretty surprised no-one asked about this before, I kept dreading it since the first workprint :-D

I don't understand why you made the edges round. You will only see round edges when the screen the movie is projected on has round edges (was this actuallyalready the case when the SW movies were in theatres?), not because the projected source has round edges. Also, when someones want round edges he or she can make/buy a screen with round edges. People who don't want round edges now have no choice.

I just finished downloading.  The JSC trilogy and TPM extracted fine, but I can't get any of the SE trilogy to repair.  SW has 51 damaged files, TESB has 54 damaged files, and ROTJ has 1 damaged file.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I had the same problem.  I was bummed.

For me SW SE is downloading fine so far, no damage in the first 300 files or so, but I'm downloading the old one.

BTW, thanks to Arnie.d for the cover art.  This is perfect.  How did you transfer all of the Japanese text with such good quality?

I just scanned them with a flatbed scanner. They need some adjustments though, to get rid of the yellowish paper color.

I really like the BD25 preservation of the JSC. Are you planning something similar for the 97SE? (sorry if I missed this in the thread, I was quickly scanning through it to see if you mentioned it).

Star Wars OT & 1997 Special Edition - Various Projects Info (Released)

Thank you Team Blu for the effort of creating these gems! Image quality is better than can be expected considering the source material. The audio is truly amazing. I'm an OOT guy and despise the "OT" Blu-ray release but I'm actually excited to see the 1997 SE from start to finish. Can't wait for your OOT as well as 1997 SE Empire and Jedi!

V8 DVD:

The chroma smear seen in this example of the X9 cap is mostly seen on fast moving scenes and objects such as laser blasts or other saturated objects, this being when Solo running past the camera, and actually reminds me very much of the artifacts seen in GOUT. It is noticeable throughout the transfers of SW & ESB at least, how this appeared must be down to some form of temporal filtering of some sort in the capture process, maybe a bad 3D comb filter? Sometimes it actually makes some of the static shots less detailed than your old DVD.

This isn't just about me pointing out the flaw in the capture as I am genuinely interested in how these kind of artifacts appear, as I would like to avoid them myself if I ever get the chance of using better capture equipment. There's also other issues with the chroma, such as bleeding and a chroma shift that is not seen in either my LD or D_J's DVD's. (can post examples of this if you are curious) Something must've gone wrong in the capture process.

Hope I don't come off as an a-hole bashing your work.

Don't worry about coming off as an a-hole. You're just pointing out some errors. The smearing looks indeed terrible. I don't know why I haven't seen it before. The V800 capture was done using a capture card with a Philips SAA713x (can't remeber the x, 2 or 4?) chipset. The X9 capture was done with the Sweetspot capture card which has on older chipset iirc. Maybe the newer chipset gives better results although the sweetspot should be a better quality card overall.

There was also another strange thing with the sweetspot (which has probably nothing to do with the smearing), if I captured the same clip twice the first field of the same frame could be either a top field in the first capture and a bottom field in the second capture whereas with my other capture card the first field of the same frame was always a top field or bottom field in all captures.

Besides the chroma shift, I noticed that there seems to be something that looks like a chroma sampling error on these captures and color smear causing DVNR-like trails, this is most noticable on the color red. This is a little unfortunate as they're otherwise superb captures. Arnie.d, if you're still around, any theory what could've caused this? I know that some combfilters can cause smearing...

I'm unable to post examples of this as I don't have a computer at the moment.

Sorry, I never saw your question before. I don't know what caused the smearing. I never noticed the smearing. Are you able to post some examples?

It was actually a small mistake on my part.  When I synced the 1977 mix, I noticed that there were a few places where the wav file had inverted phase compared to the earlier analog laser discs and the 1985 mix.  In order for the few patches from the analog mix to work correctly, I had to correct the inverted phase in some spots.  I accidentally included the phase corrected versions of side 1 and side 2 instead of the straight LD rip.  I'm planning on fixing this in V2 of the torrent, though the gout synced track will have the correct phase.

So this phase corrected side 1 and 2 is only the analog capture? The digital 1977 capture is the straight LD rip?

Yeah, free DL from RS is somehow really fast now and upload too, that's why I chose it in the end.

@builditup:

Thanks. I actually just did that and I must say even I didn't realize how much of a difference there was.

Check this out (v1.0 top v2.0 bottom):

I dare say the crushed blacks aren't even going to be an issue this time.

Harmy, that gridlike pattern across the bottom picture when opening in photoshop, especially visible when zooming in on the darker areas (or lowering contrast), what is it?

Some players will ignore the flag if you tell them, or allow you to turn CX on/off manually. I don't think my players will allow it.

Probably a stupid question but doesn't your remote have a D/A/CX button?

Yes it has that button. When I poke that button I get these choices:
Analog --> Digital --> Analog --> Digital --> Analog --> etc...

Only those two options. There isn't any
'Analog with CX'
'Analog without CX'
or anything like that.

Keep in mind my CLD-S201 was the cheapest model during its production year.
So we don't expect it will have all the features its big brothers got.

What choices do you get with your player, using that button?

Hmm, on my cld-2950 I get the same options, but I remeber having turned CX off during capturing. Must have been the X9 then.

OK, I am going ahead and putting the files I have in sync, 1130-85 side1 is finished and I should have 1130-85 side2 done some time this afternoon, then I need a break LOL, as I have said several times like a busted record LOL, this type of work is extremely boring and time consuming, but worth it in the end.

Dark_jedi, are you syncing up the audio to the gout before or after upsampling? I was wondering if you would be willing to share the synced audio as wave/flac files seperately (or even the raw files), or are you planning to use it for your project only.

You will not bee able to get any form of digital "rip" of the ANH 1977 Theatrical mix, but as hairy_hen said:

There are no digital copies of the '77 stereo mix on laserdisc.  Belbucus' analogue capture was made with very high quality equipment, so it's probably the best it's ever going to sound short of an official transfer from the master tape.

That mix is as good as we are going to get. However you could replace the following mixes if you wished......

1985 ANH mix using the "rip" recently posted by Mallwalker.

1980 ESB Theatrical mix if the Special Widescreen Edition/JSC were to be "ripped".

1983 ROTJ Theatrical mix using the "rip" recently posted by Mallwalker.

So far I have had no luck finding anyone that can rip this, but I will keep hunting.

Well, I have the JSC, a LD player with optical out and a soundblaster (which I bought a few years ago because of the bitperfect option) with optical in. However, I don't know what program to use or how to check if a stream was ripped bitperfect.

OK, I don't know if I should post this here, or in my own thread, or start a new one, but I want to put it somewhere I know it will be seen by those that can help me with this, now that I am gaining more and more experience working with audio, and actually hearing the difference between "ripped" Digital PCM and "captured" PCM, the "ripped" Digital PCM sounds damn great! so since I am not done with my final Blu-ray Set yet, I was thinking I would love to get my hands on better quality audio for this release.

So is there anyone here that can help me in getting these files, if they are available that is, "ripped" not "captured" at the Laserdiscs 16bit/44.1kHz? these are what I would like to find, hell, I am not even sure if all these even have Digital PCM, so correct me if I am wrong please.

Dark_jedi, is the current V3 theatrical and '85 remix audio an analoge capture? You want to replace it by digital bit perfect rips, right?

I guess blu-ray doesn't support 44.1 kHz, or does it? So any bitperfect rip needs to be resampled. Does anyone know what is the best way to resample? Is this "secret rabbit code" good (http://www.mega-nerd.com/SRC/fb2k.html)? Or is it better to resample during the capture?
