We just want to know where he's at. It's depressing going on this thread and seeing a whole lot of nothing being talked about.

WWW forums are intended for online discussion. Discussions often have tangents. If this doesn't suit you, then I suggest exploring one of the alternatives mentioned in doubleofive's post above.

It's fine to attempt to steer a thread back on-topic, but your post does nothing of the sort and not only reduces the signal-to-noise ratio further, but contradicts your intent.

Alternatively, if you just want to whine, then I suggest posting in the following thread: http://originaltrilogy.com/forum/topic.cfm/If-you-need-to-B-tch-about-something-this-is-the-place/topic/11555/

It might help to mention that Americans often refer to any piece of music (with or without lyrics) as a "song".

But why? What if you want to refer to a song and the word for song no longer means song?

I haven't yet encountered a situation where using the word "song" to refer to a piece of music (rather than just those pieces of music with lyrics) resulted in an unresolvable ambiguity.

Harmy's STAR WARS Despecialized Edition HD - V2.7 - MKV (Released)

Don't they both add better picture quality and a look that makes both editions feel more "modern"? Which version would you recommend?

Cliff's Notes:

  1. Despecialized: A close approximation to how the film looked in 1977.

  2. Revisited: A more special version of the Special Edition.

Harmy despecializes; Adywan specializes.

Both have exceptional picture quality, but only Adywan's Revisited has a "more modern" look.

The Laserdisc masters - JSC or 93 or whatever - are out of the question since they're probably on Betacam tapes (DVD resolution) or something.

The JSC master tapes are out of the question because a member of OT.com currently has them.

*spits coffee* WHAT!?! When did this happen!?!

Years ago, according to him/her, but don't get too excited. He/she has no intention of sharing them.

So, how about doing both and then averaging the two results?

Interesting suggestion!

That would yield 129(floor) or 130(ceiling) for the example in the above post.

I'm afraid of climbing down a deep rabbit hole of complexity. I prefer to K.I.S.S., ya know?

I'll do some measurements soon.

Now the question is: What's better, a median-of-three or a TooT?

I've heard that TooT is very effective but I have never been able to try it out for myself. The median script of g-force was very effective at getting rid of the herringbone pattern on my Technidisc-pressing of Star Wars but maybe it's worth a comparison to see which proves to be the most effective method? I recall that Moth3r was pointing out that a multi cap average proved to be more effective to get rid of dotcrawl but a median was more effective at getting rid of dropouts etc.

TooT and MedianOfThree both get rid of anomalies that exist in only one of the three sources; e.g., dropouts and rot.

The difference is: (The rot here is obviously 57.)

        TooT(57, 127, 137) = 132

        MedianOfThree(57, 127, 137) = 127

Since TooT averages the two most similar pixels of the three (effectively dropping the third) it seems to be the best-of-both-worlds.

However, g-force once made a pretty convincing case to me that TooT will result in more noise than MedianOfThree. I don't remember his argument and I can't think of a good one at the moment.

Looking at old VHS copies on Ebay, I don't see a CC logo on any of them. AFAIK, all of my other Warner LD's have CC, so this is a curious omission.

It's definitely a curious omission; especially wrt the '96/97 VHS release since one would, at least, expect that release to come with CC given the popularity of the format and how recent the release was.

I was hoping to capture the CC. Damn. :-/

Has someone hacked-up subtitles for LD preservations? If not, then how hard do you think it would be to transform the subtitles/CC on the DVD/Blu-ray to work with the version on the LD?
