I'm currently working on writing my own software 3D motion-adaptive comb filter. The prototype is in Python; the release code will be in C (ANSI C89/ISO C90) for Vapoursynth.
My #1 goal is to comb as much as possible without introducing artifacts.
The results, so far, are extremely promising.

But why? What if you want to refer to a song and the word for song no longer means song?
I haven't yet encountered a situation where using the word "song" to refer to a piece of music (rather than just those pieces of music with lyrics) resulted in an unresolvable ambiguity.

1. Despecialized: A close approximation to how the film looked in 1977.
2. Revisited: A more special version of the Special Edition.
Harmy despecializes; Adywan specializes.
Both have exceptional picture quality, but only Adywan's Revisited has a "more modern" look.

I've heard that TooT is very effective but I have never been able to try it out for myself. The median script of g-force was very effective at getting rid of the herringbone pattern on my Technidisc-pressing of Star Wars but maybe it's worth a comparison to see which proves to be the most effective method? I recall that Moth3r was pointing out that a multi cap average proved to be more effective to get rid of dotcrawl but a median was more effective at getting rid of dropouts etc.
TooT and MedianOfThree both get rid of anomalies that exist in only one of the three sources; e.g., dropouts and rot.
The difference is: (The rot here is obviously 57.)
TooT(57, 127, 137) = 132
MedianOfThree(57, 127, 137) = 127
Since TooT averages the two most similar pixels of the three (effectively dropping the third) it seems to be the best-of-both-worlds.
However, g-force once made a pretty convincing case to me that TooT will result in more noise than MedianOfThree. I don't remember his argument and I can't think of a good one at the moment.

It's definitely a curious omission; especially wrt the '96/97 VHS release since one would, at least, expect that release to come with CC given the popularity of the format and how recent the release was.

Has someone hacked-up subtitles for LD preservations? If not, then how hard do you think it would be to transform the subtitles/CC on the DVD/Blu-ray to work with the version on the LD?
Do any of the pre-SE home video releases have CC?
