Nice! This might just make me a P&S fan.

Why wasn't this transfer used for the '82 LDs?

No idea why they made two different transfers that same year:

'82 CED / LD / HBO broadcast (time compressed)

'82 betamax / VHS / '85 LD

It is a little weird, they are also made from the same film elements. I actually like some aspects of the time compressed transfer as well, just unfortunate that it is time compressed. A good preservation of both these historical video transfers would be nice.

Should we ask SilverWook to preserve his '82 Rental Betamax tape?

LOL! Someone has the '85 LDs on eBay for $99 each!

I'd be curious to know which one was first too.  I mean it's weird for a place to take something down with no explanation to the original uploader about what issues there were to begin with.........I'm glad I got to snatch it before it went poof.....and it is cool of AntcuFaalb to put it up somewhere else if it's needed by others.

I can do it tonight.

I'll use 7-Zip to split it into two separate archives and then I'll upload each half to a dummy Google Drive account.

Are the colors the same?

The colors in retardedted's preservation are wonderful.

Yes, it is the exact same transfer. They are nice and vibrant, it is a little red tinted but not much was really done with the actual hues in these old video releases, it is the brigtness, contrast and gamma that was fiddled with but that greatly affects how the colors look of course.

Nice! This might just make me a P&S fan.

FWIW, these colors are very close to what's on PS78.

I disagree I think PS78 has a greater depth to the colours in it, once you pump them up a bit i see an appreciable difference, like say the rich blue in the paintwork on R2D2 / the reflective quality of the C3POs metal, the official telecines always flatten/simplify the colours by being over bright. (The PS78 is dark, but theres richness in the darkness)

I demand PS78 be released once more AntcuFaalb !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Oh, I promise that it will get released sometime soon.

However, it won't be as good as it can be, due to the AGC-related problems.

:-(

Anyway, I find that PS78 is a bit too green-tinted for my taste.

Alright....  hopefully the guy who won this bidding is a member of OT.com and will give us the nicest transfer ever.  It's impressive how a 30 year old VHS can actually look better than some DVDs out there.

I own a copy and plan to do a transfer of it soon with my Panasonic AG-1980.

If you really like this transfer, I can recommend the 1985 CAV standard play LD, uses the same transfer.

Hey guys does anyone know what happened to msycamore's m2v? I was checking my seeds when I noticed the m2v said 'Failure: Torrent not registered with this tracker'. I went back and checked MySpleen and the m2v is gone. Anybody know why?

Yeah, I noticed it was removed. Don't know the reason behind it, maybe they deleted it because it was a video only file. But they seem to approve audio only uploads so I honestly don't know...

That's the second unusual removal I've heard of recently from myspleen. I wonder if they're getting stricter with uploads.

I can upload a copy of it somewhere on the WWW if someone needs it.

Info Wanted: From Star Wars to Jedi - any available in higher quality than the lds?

There is a french version ("Les Coulisses D'une Légende") on the fourth CLV side of ROTJ, in the french "pyramid" box set.

The resolution is not that high, but the colors seems correct (better than the many pynkish scenes found on ANH in the same boxset); there are some french subtitles (in yellow, mainly when showing some of the movies scenes) but I bet they are on the screen for less than 5% of the time, and maybe could be erased using the japanese counterpart, if in the same frame there are no japanese subtitles...

Are you willing to do a capture of this, Andrea?

When/Why did you become an OT purist?
Time

I'm probably speaking only for myself when I say that I don't like movies to look too realistic.

I prefer the appearance of a pristine (I hate dirt and scratches) 16mm print. The hazy glow, the softness, and the grain structure all help to provide an aesthetic I find pleasing.

Puggo GRANDE is too dirty for me (sorry Puggo!) to enjoy, but this sample frame from it demonstrates how I'd prefer to watch most movies.

Puggo!

Note: This isn't AR-corrected. Also, I uploaded it to imageshack.us so as to not kill Puggo's bandwidth.

Also, do realize that this isn't because of nostalgia. I'm 25, so I definitely wasn't around during the heyday of 16mm.
