What project would this be?
Too many! Haha. :-D
I have a growing list of preservations I plan on tackling.
Here's a list of my equipment:
Panasonic AG-1980 S-VHS Player
Panasonic LX-900 Laserdisc Player
Panasonic DMR-ES10 DVD Recorder (used for "passthrough" filtering only)
Hauppauge 610 USB-Live2 Capture Card
A growing collection of comb filters and other specialized gear
Here are the StarWars-related Laserdiscs I own:
1986 A New Hope Japanese Special Collection [SF148-1196]
1987 The Empire Strikes Back Japanese Special Collection [SF148-1242]
1987 Return of the Jedi Japanese Special Collection [SF148-1343]
1993/94 A New Hope Technidisc Special Widescreen Edition [1130-85]
1993/94 The Empire Strikes Back Technidisc Special Widescreen Edition [1425-85]
1993/94 Return of the Jedi Technidisc Special Widescreen Edition [1478-85]
1985 A New Hope Standard Play P&S [1130-84]
1985 From Star Wars to Jedi: The Making of a Saga (Japanese-only release) [70011-78]
2000 Star Wars: The Phantom Menace (Japanese-only release) [PILF-2830]

Oh you know that if I didn't have *insert large number here* projects going on and coming up, I would gladly have helped you! I hope you'll find some nice and helpful partner because I know you do have some great ideas.
Thanks!
I really wish we could have partnered-up, but I know you're busy with all of the projects you have going on with DJ.
Let's see what the futures holds. I'm still going to come to you for colortiming help! ;-)
Wow, Leonardo. Those are some amazing links!
Thanks for sharing.
I have many preservation projects in-the-works.
I’m looking for someone to bounce ideas off of and communicate with frequently. Ideally, he/she would have experience in color-correction and/or photo editing.
If you really want to work with my sorry ass, then post here or PM me.
I'd like to calibrate my Hauppauge USB-Live2, but the proc-amp controls range from -5000 to 5000.
I have 20/20 vision, but my eyes aren't that good and the auto-calibration that comes with DScaler works, but looks like it'll take forever to complete.
Any advice?

I think this issue is more a problem with the audience, though. Still, I do wonder how Japanese companies treat their game devs...
Computer Programmers aren't well-respected in Japanese society. This is partly due to the hardware-centric culture of Japanese business during the 1980s.
As you can see in the following images, NES Programmers at Nintendo in the late 80s didn't really work in the best of conditions...
They're working on ANCIENT (even for the time! ~1979) HP 64000 mainframe computers.
Now look at the workspace of the Graphics Designer. Need I say more?

but is nostalgia REALLY the only way Nintendo can get hardcore gamers back?
It's a problem with the video game industry itself.

My career is in Computer Programming, so trust me when I say that creativity is non-existent when the working conditions are as bad as they are now in the video game industry.
Here's what it's like working for EA: http://ea-spouse.livejournal.com/274.html
OMFG. I'm so excited for ALTTP2!!!
I've completed ALTTP well over fifty times. I know the game by heart. It's frightening.
Chris Houlihan FTW.

Let's face it, guys. The media helps terrorists win.
Look at how fearful the USA has become post-9/11. With the Patriot Act, TSA bullshit, ..., the list goes on and on. I have no doubt that all of the attention by the media played a significant part in easing the rise of the 2002-present USA Security Theater.
If the goal of terrorism is to transform the target into a terrorized fearful society, then Al-Qaeda won back in 2001.
This is an interesting view. Can't say I entirely agree but this warrants more discussion.
Thanks.
Unfortunately, I intentionally worded it in an inflammatory way, but I'm not going to go back and JEDIT it now.
Less inflammatory: I believe that terrorism directed at a nation forces it to respond in a way that limits the freedom of its citizens for the sake of "national security" and mass media plays a significant role in the fear-mongering that's required to get people to "give up a little liberty to gain a little security", which -- in effect -- drives further terrorism.

I hate to be realistic but just sending the food doesn't actually solve the problem. The country and its people need to get responsible and limit their population within their production capabilities. I mean "send us food and we will multiply" attitude is bound to hit the brutal reality of nature.
A big part of the problem is that many of these countries have food production capabilities that far exceed our expectations. Corruption and war prevent more-fair distributions of food.
Also, I don't think Capitalism is a good economic system for a country with a mostly-starving population.

unless you prefer him to be cut vertically down the middle from head to groin. :D
Like when Trunks cuts Mecha Frieza in half in Dragon Ball Z!
If Adywan could pull off a similarly-amazing shot, then... I don't know. I'd love him forever.

The following post claims that the 704 smears like crazy. http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/38342-25-d704-sony-ghosting#1817894
Does the 704 exhibit "CLV smear"? Most laserdisc players do.
Very few don't. A few examples of laserdisc players that don't exhibit "CLV smear" are: Panasonic LX-900, Runco LJR-I/II, Pioneer HLD-X0, Pioneer HLD-X9, and a few others.
"CLV smearing" looks like bad DNR artifacts sometimes.

The more eyeballs on this the better, so long as information is forwarded to the proper authorities to act upon.
I worry that the media might hastily ruin someone's life... again.

Since you seem to be syncing non-theatrical mixes too, it's worth mentioning that although hairy_hen is working on fixing up the '77 stereo track, I doubt he has similar plans for the '85 and '93 mixes for Star Wars.
Do you know if h_h plans to fix the '80 and '83 digital stereo tracks as well?
I hope so!

This couldn't have waited another year?
No. The 2004 DVD set doesn't deserve a 10-year anniversary celebration, just a 9-year one.

The Killbots from Chopping Mall (1986) would make great battle-droids for TPM and they're obscure, so most people wouldn't recognize them.

I'm getting an idea for an image thread where people can post their visual mashups of good looking aspects of these sort of films and shows (the Masters Of The Universe film also has some lovely looking sets and costumes) with the PT and come up with some nice new imagery which may be an inspiration.
Do it! Visual Retro Redux Thread!
As a point of order (especially to any floating mods) would this fit into the edits section (being mock ups intended to inspire edit project makers) or art (being still images)?
I'd say the former, as the intention is to encourage the use of either per-exisiting footage or design work. I'd find a bank of gathered footage incredibly helpful.
Done.

Go!
JEDIT: Post any (a/v, plot) Revisited Retro-redux ideas here.

I don't think there's a trampoline, but after Vader is knocked off the freezing platform, Luke turns off his lightsaber & jumps after him. After he lands, his head pops back into frame, showing that the actor didn't jump as far as you'd hoped. Ady erased the head.
"Adywan": Erasin' heads before it was cool.
