I didn't give it a great deal of thought.

Me neither. Although I loved a reference to an in-universe historic event. Little things like that make us even more involved with that movie's universe.

I agree.  The mention of some history between the characters, a reason why the princess has come looking for this guy, a reason why she's trying to get the robot to him gives the story depth, even if we don't know what she's talking about.  In fact, to me, that unknown part of the story helps create tension, it engages us in the story.  It did for me, anyway.

I think unknowns are something George has never understood the value of.  Star Wars77 is full of mysterious pasts and unknowns.  They help give the movie some depth and darkness.

It didn't take him long to abandon that mystery & depth and commence with over-explaining every possible detail, no matter how unnecessary.  That's what caused me to jump ship 30 years ago.  It wasn't magical anymore.

Let us not forget, Darth was in the prequels.

True.

It would be interesting to somehow find a way to measure if the recognition of Vader by those 14-year-olds was from the OT or the PT.  My guess would be that it's a combination of both.  For 34 years Vader has been a cultural icon of bad.  That's fame the prequel characters can't buy.

General Analogy sounds more threatening than General Grevious.

*Note

I don't know who General Grievous is, but I've heard a lot of the character names from the  last two films and they sound just as stupid as the names in Phantom.

Come on man,  from Skywalker, Kenobi, and Solo..... to Naboo, Dooku, Jar Jar,  and Bibble?

Maul & Grievous - that's just lazy.

I was only 15 back in 1977, so I didn't give it a great deal of thought.  I imagined it as the Jedi against a bunch of evil, cloned people.  As I've mentioned before, I was deep into The Star Wars story and didn't really care about what came before.  Occasionally pondered it, but not to the point of piecing together some sort of past for any characters or events.

Maybe I should finally make a definitive list...gosh it would be long.

I've sort of had one for about 20 years, but films have come along that moved me so much that I had to make room for them.  Then I locked down 5 that would always be in the list and allowed 5 that were fluid.  However, even that hasn't worked because I start wanting to change the locked 5 around, move one up, down, take a bottom 5 film and replace a locked 5 with it, etc.

I've been wanting to sit down myself and see if I could really do it, but I don't know, man.  Too many great films out there.  I could probably nail down a top 20.

I always go out of my way to gently lift them off the pavement when the weather takes a sudden turn and put them onto a leaf or something

Excellent!

Sudden changes can sometimes disorient a bee, particularly if she's far from the hive.  It's also possible she's just near the end of her life and unable to fly back.  Either way, I applaud your kindness because I do the same - with all insects.

I wonder what would happen if we started a campaign to send back the DVDs should the Blu-Rays turn out to be more of the same only in HD?

A cover letter could state that they are essentially the latest generation of the same flawed software.

When I bought the GOUT, I took only the bonus disc inside the house.  Everything else went into the garbage can outside, including the packaging.

If you guys end up sending discs back after the Blu-rays are released, I'll participate.  Work up a cover letter and I'll find some way to get a disc.

I know this is better left to your "Putting Faces to Names" thread, but seriously dude, are you actually this badass?

Nah.  I'm just a fella.  Riding forever, baseball passion forever, love wine, and beekeeping? - no big deal.  Besides, my girls love me....

As far as badass throwdowns go - look at Johnny Ringo, man.  If I had to go against that guy it would be an Indiana Jones\Dovchenko event - and I'd be hoping like hell for a bunch of ants.  ;-)
