Chance to talk to Lucasfilm about the new SW Blu-rays. What do YOU want to know?

I've been reading for quite a few years now and the tone hasn't change; if anything it's more light hearted nowadays.

I would agree.  We accepted that we're not going to get the original films and have moved on to discussing the best way to make our own, as well as the preservation of the true history of the film (not the constantly changing Lucas version).

Along the way we're at times more than vocal about Lucas' lying, his business practices, his ego, and his shortcomings.  TFNers, BRers and FBers don't care for that but that's not our problem.  We're not criticizing him unfairly or untruthfully. Our tone is the same as it's always been - we want three films that he won't release, so we discuss the situation.

Part of that situation includes discussing what Lucas chooses to release in  place of the original theatrical versions, which has much more often than not, been sub-standard and explained with lies.  As Frink mentioned earlier, if Lucas claimed a release was exactly the way he wanted it and that the added CGI scenes & color changes were creative decisions, then why are those "creative decisions" being corrected - yet again?  Criticizing Lucas' ever-changing Original Vision is valid.

A second time.

Liked it even more.  Caught a few details I'd missed the first time.  Really felt the depth of the story and character. A third viewing will be next week.

I had it ready to move into my Top Ten list but wanted to let it steep a couple of weeks before I jumped the gun.  It's in.  Now all I have to do is think a little more on what gets moved into the 11-20, but I have it narrowed down to two.  The list and a brief explanation of it's workings are in a txt doc on my work machine.  Once the change is finalized,  I'll post it in the Top Ten thread.

They'll pick the few they want to use as a way promote the product - extras, sound, color, packaging, etc.  That visit is about revenue stream...

Home Theater Forum:

view some deleted scenes and WOW there is some good stuff there, some great deleted scenes and alternate takes.

The audio for all the films was tweaked.  It was readily apparent that it was a labor of love for Matthew Wood who worked with Ben Burtt.

They then made a lot of tweaks and fixes:....Color timing...

The packaging is very nice. The complete series set is a book with thick cardboard pages and great art

if you boycott this release...you are going to be missing a otherwise fantastic release.

BEAUTIFUL WOMEN NEW RULES IN FIRST POST (NSFW) UPDATED RULES
Time

Probably the longest tenured member of my top 5 most desirable women list, 10 years at least:

In fact, I'm surprised I haven't posted this in this thread already (search turned up nothing).

Anyway, without getting too wordy - super intelligent and very grounded in spite of her fame and wealth. Like I said before, that is 90% of the game in my world.  Add in her physical beauty and you have a Top Five woman for sure.

I looked in over there.  Interesting concept and very nice to see the passion for the theatrical versions.  However,  nearly every one of those questions will be ignored.  They'll pick the few they want to use as a way promote the product - extras, sound, color, packaging, etc.  That visit is about revenue stream, not Lucas' suppression of of cinematic art & history.

I have it on DVD and would consider myself a huge fan - ever since I first sat in the theater, weekly, back in 1976.  Not unlike the way I did with Star Wars soon after.

Yeah, that's right - I'm coming out...I am a Logan's Run nerd and I've probably seen it as many times as Star Wars.

Deal with it.  ;-)

What do you LIKE about the EU?
Time

A little past the halfway point.

I didn't think it would be possible for a story to come close to the Daley novels for me, but so far this is every bit right there with them.  Really digging it.   A Star Wars story with depth and character development.  Adults, in adult situations, having adult conversations.  Fantastic work at developing deep and believable characters too.

As I mentioned in a different conversation, the portion where an older and more mature Luke is up late at night, out on a balcony, pondering the journey so far, really put the hook in me.  I immediately connected to the character and how life changes as you age.

I'm not the 15-year-old kid I was when I was sitting in the theater in 1977, and Luke isn't the innocent farm boy he was when I was first introduced to the character back then.  Life is very different now - for both of us.  So the story speaks to me on a much different level.   Really great work on Zahn's part.  That, by the way, is the same reason I like Crystal Skull so much.  Indiana Jones isn't who he was 25 years ago, and neither am I.

And following the story arc laid out in Empire & Return, no less.  Love the trip back to Dagobah and seeing the remnants of Yoda's place all those years later.  Honestly, Zahn's work reads like a screenplay.

Truly a missed opportunity when Lucas decided to take his toys and go home so that no one else could play with them.  In the right hands (non-Lucas), this would have made an excellent film.

Looking forward to the rest of it, as well as going on to the next one.  I owe you guys.

Okay, who actually HATES the Prequels

the original novelizations, comic adaptations, and first 2 radio dramas as well as the original screenplays pre special edition are no longer canon.

George doesn't get to make that decision for other people - no matter how hard he tries or how often he claims otherwise.

Fortunately for me, Lucas has written none of my personal Star Wars canon.

Lucas actually has said he doesn't like the "stick things in your face" 3D.

Every time Lucas opens his mouth he might as well be burping the alphabet.

What he says vs what he does\what ends up happening\what took place in the past\what he has planned\what he believes\etc\etc are usually completely different.

As Chainsaw and Bingo have mentioned, it will be interesting to see if the deleted scenes were treated with any respect.  The official previews look as though they were not.

This is the only movie in the world in which this discussion is taking place. That isn't our fault, it's Lucas' fault.

That is the single most important point to remember in this entire thread.

Eventually as a parent-like being in this SW relationship, there comes a decision to point the finger at yourself.  It's nice that large blocks go out and put the latest doodle from this 70 year old man-child onto their fridge. (...landfilling the last doodle...)  The symbolic circle is now deformed and twisted, LFL is the necessary evil, the go between the creator and the memories.  Dolling them out like crumbs to the house where you'll eventually realize, you're not in Modesto anymore.   ...this metaphor is past it's prime, it's killed children, jedi, sith, even ackleys all in the name of the BEEP : Turn the page.

Well put, sir.  I suppose it goes without saying, at least I hope it does, that I made that decision decades ago.  That decision (a very easy one, by the way) was for a non-Lucas Star Wars world.  Daley & Zahn make up my personal canon.

Truth be told,  I'll most likely never watch Star Wars again.  Having made the transition to much deeper & much better stories - in a much more vast universe - I won't be going backwards.

;-)  Sorry.  I gotta get out more.

And I agree with you.  His death seemed to somehow elevate a lot of  pre-viewing opinions, which I find particularly weird.  Truthfully, the whole pre-release hype of viral sites, cos-play gatherings, etc seemed to have almost brain washed people into thinking the film was a masterpiece before they ever actually saw it.

There is a huge Batman-Nolanverse nerd here at work and the months leading up to Dark Knight release were very weird to witness first hand.  My co-worker, other forums, blogs et al - it had a weird Emperor's New Clothes feel to it.

The Dark Knight-took all of the elements from the first film I didn't like and did away with any of the one I did. I kept waiting for this film to go somewhere, but it didn't. And this lack of nearly anything somehow gives it the pretense of "importance"? ....Bad story construction, some editing and sound mixing mistakes, and they didn't know how or where to end the darn thing. IMO a mess.

That pretty much sums up my thoughts on The Dark Knight also.  Man, by the time they got to that way too long & pointless ferry sequence, I was literally looking at the clock. With God as my witness, I nearly didn't finish watching it.  I'd lost interest.

I'll also go on record as the lone dissenter where Ledger is concerned.  Too much - of everything. Know when to pull back and give the character room to breath. Some of it was scene chewing and I wore out on it.  The juggernaut of pre-release "this is the greatest performance in the history of film" hype certainly didn't help.  Fans were ordaining it masterpiece and classic before they'd even seen the fucking thing.

I suppose Batman Begins is my favorite.  However, it has a couple of areas that keep it back from being my definitive Batman.  Suit - I'm not crazy about it.  For me, it's a little too crisp.  The armor looks too much like armor.  I prefer the Keaton suit.  Bale - Not deep enough.  He just comes across as a wealthy guy with a chip on his shoulder, not someone who is emotionally scarred.

As much as I dislike Burton (which is a lot), I think he got two things correct in 1989 - the the two things I mentioned above. The suit looks more like Batman to me and I think Keaton is much better in the role.

Batman & Batman Begins are the only two I own and I watch both with some regularity, depending on my mood.
