Star Wars: Episode VII to be directed by J.J. Abrams **NON SPOILER THREAD**

I wouldn't like that at all. If nothing else, there is enough space within SW universe to make films about new characters.

I agree on there being plenty of tangents to explore.  It's embarrassing that Lucas couldn't get out of one damn solar system in 30 years.

Recasting doesn't bother me at all if it's done well.  Some stories would make it necessary.  The Zahn books for example, if filmed, would have to be recast.  That would still have been my preferred continuation of the franchise.

So sure something generic like...

Star Wars Episode VII: Dark Force Rising

...or the like is very possible. Also having "Rising" in the title worked for TDKR! LOL

I would love it if that were one of the new films.  ;-)

Zahn was a bit ahead of the trend with his title 22 years ago.

I agree, by the way, on the saturation of Dark, Darkness, Rising, Rises, End, Age Of, etc.

Doesn't mean I can't say it based on your feelings.

No, but it does mean you can't say it based on mine.

Who should the villain(s) of the sequel trilogy be? (if the sequel trilogy has villains)

I was generally referring to forbidding of posting links to external forum.

If you do it respectfully I don't see why would it be prohibited.

When you start a thread that links to another forum with interesting information, it most likely won't be prohibited.  However, the topic being questioned had Moderator Headache written all over it.

Our board has gained some visibility the past couple of years, a lot of it on more respected film and entertainment sites. The attention has been positive and respectful.  We would like to keep it that way, as well as returning the sentiment.

...if he named it "Interesting things from TFN" would it still be labelled as inappropriate? If so I think this should be stated in forum rules somewhere.

Do you really think any topic linked to a Star Wars board with markedly different views from ours is going to stay civil for more than a few hours?  Particularly if the only thing not incendiary is the title.  We shouldn't have to spell out common sense guidelines.

Are there any known differences between the broadcasts of ESB and the official audio releases? What appears to be a batch of off air reel to reel recordings has popped up on ebay.

I've just about reached the end of the internet and can't find any mention one way or another.  I will say though (and this means nothing) the published script for the Star Wars NPR has scenes that are not on the my purchased CD set.

Doesn't mean they were ever broadcast, but there were differences.  Possible that Empire is the same.  That said, it's also 2 hours shorter, so time may not have been an issue.

Edge of Tomorrow

No Spoilers

I should start by pointing out that I have a tremendous dislike of Tom Cruise.  He's ok as an actor, but more often than not he's just a script reader.  He looks and sounds like Tom Cruise pretending to be a ... (insert any type of character).

Why then would I bother with this, you may be asking.  Seemed mildly interesting in the trailer and after a long week of work and work-related travel, I was up for a night out.  Plus, the Alamo Drafthouse has great popcorn and a decent wine list.  ;-)

I was pleasantly surprised.  The story was interesting, the two leads were interesting, and Cruise came across as the character he was playing.  It was nice to see him breaking away from his usual, oh-so-cool guy with all the answers.  He plays someone wildly out of their element and as scared and confused as we would be.

Emily Blunt was the same. I enjoyed her character's switching back and forth of leading\supporting Cruise's character.  It was an interesting dynamic that worked for me.  By the second half of the film, I cared about what would happen to them, and was genuinely interested in seeing it.

With such a strong female and male duo as the focus, it could have easily devolved into cliche'.  To the film's credit, they didn't go that route.  To me it felt much more like what I would expect from two people brought together under such circumstances.

The film was 3D, which wasn't a distraction at all.  In fact, it felt completely natural after a few minutes.

In closing;  Hats off, Mr. Cruise.  I went in very jaded and you proved me wrong. I give it 5 out of 5 pairs of handcuffs.

Tatooine is just about the last place I want to revisit, for all the points already mentioned.

"...this is the planet it's farthest from". Unless Lucas gets writer's block.

However, at this stage we don't know what they have planned.  With any luck, if we have to see it -yet again- hopefully it will be a ten minute revisit early on to go get Luke out of some sort of self-imposed exile and then we leave it behind forever.

Let's not confuse Lucas' treatment of OOT fans with the actual production of ROTJ.

Agree 100% And thanks for the clarification.  I should have been more clear. I was speaking more of the difference between the way Abrams includes fans in general vs the way Lucas seemed almost to resent fans. It came across as production-based because that's all we have from Abrams at this point.

There will be little to nothing to post.

Any social media whether tweets or facebook will probably be false leads from the studio. The modern day Blue Harvest.

 ?

A month in and we already have official information on the location shooting, pictures of the studio, pictures of the entire cast in a read-through, a picture of Chewie on-set from the CEO of Disney, a letter from the director, two videos from the director - one with the screenwriter - one from the set, and most likely a few bits that have slipped past me.

On the contrary, I feel like Abrams has gone out of his way to let people know what's happening.  He also seems to be deliberate in helping fans, particularly of the OT, feel included and welcome.

Lucas went out of his way to shun the original fans, to the point of being deliberately hateful and disrespectful.  Abrams appears to be trying to heal decades of Lucas' mental abuse.

This isn't even close to Blue Harvest.

Haven't really looked into it yet.  My only experience with Cichlids is Angels.  For years i was the sole supplier of Gold Angels to one of the largest fish stores in the city.  Had a breeding pair by themselves in a planted 30.  They lived about eight years, in their own stress-free environment.  Took the tank down after they passed.
