I know this forum has a lot of “militant purists” where nothing outside the original unaltered films (With ROTJ not quite accepted either) will probably ever be accepted unless you guys are given approval over everything from the screenplay, filming techniques, etc. Some are so dogmatic they think their opinion is absolute science to what a “good” SW movie is…They could let you in on the creative process and approval and give you everything you want, truth told, no MATTER what they do…

Are you addressing someone in particular or just criticizing this community as a whole?
Hint: It’s a trick question

The Mumford piece is the only one I have any interest in. The rest are just noise. Mumford’s poster captures it all perfectly, at least the part of the story in which I’m interested. I’ll have it framed somewhere in my office and update my DVD\Blu-ray case with it.

Mumford

edit
There are three more in the series. Hopefully we get a look at those soon, but for me this one is going to mighty tough to beat.

What 'a Star Wars Story' / anthology / spinoff film would you like to see?

If they cast Solo correctly and stick to a serious story, A Han Solo stand-alone could be be really interesting. They need to stay away from the OT. The world is very aware of Han Solo and who he is as a person. We don’t need a bunch of name-checks or OT references. Something along the lines of the Brian Daley novels. Han Solo and Chewie long before we ever met them.

I’d go with Stars’ End and tweak it as necessary. Show us The Corporate Sector. Let us meet Jessa. That’s a perfect spot for a female lead. Nothing wrong with taking a break from The Empire, The Force, and The Sith for a few hours. I’d certainly welcome it.

Emma Stone in her natural blonde would make a great Jessa.

I’d love more films without Force users. Which is why I’m the most excited about Rogue One. A series of films that cover the GCW would be awesome.

I agree. They have the opportunity to move out of the Solar System Far Far Away. Here’s hoping they do just that. No force, no Jedi, no Sith. Get back to the mystery and the wonder.

I agree with their decision. It’s a drag for the folks who do it for fun, but we don’t live in an innocent world anymore. Too big of a film event. Batman drew in the mentally disturbed, as did the recent zombie con. If I had to guess, zombie con probably sealed the deal. Everyone dressed in blood and injuries made it extremely difficult to sort reality from cosplay.

The other thing is that Kylo has somehow acquired the helmet of Darth Vader from the burial site on Endor

I think that could be a possible opening scene.  An unknown person going through the long-overgrown cremation site looking for the helmet.  An introduction giving us a look at how there is a new foe who not only believes in what Vader was but is also more than just a little off-center in his admiration of him.

I personally have no problem with Vader being used as a motivating force for any of the characters, so long as they don't resurrect him or converse with him as a force ghost, his character arc is finished and his character/hayden christensen has no place in the new trilogy IMHO

I agree.  People can be moved by someone, good or bad, without needing to be related to them.  We don't need to see a flashback and we don't don't need to see him speaking to a ghost. Kylo holding a piece of his old armor and having an internal conversation is all we need to see to understand his motivation.

Six films spanning nearly thirty years is more than enough.  There are other people in the galaxy.

I haven't been following all the rumours but has anybody considered that Rey and Kylo Ren might be brother and sister, perhaps even twins to mirror Luke and Leia from the Original Trilogy? The way the positions of their heads are so similar and facing in the same direction in the poster, while Finn is facing in the other direction, and the way their weapons intermesh suggest that there could be a special connection between the two characters. Could Vader perhaps be his grandfather, which would explain even more his reverence of him?

Certainly is within the realm of possibility.  Rey & Ren - doesn't take much of a stretch to make that connection.  That sort of relation wouldn't bother me too much.  Related to Vader would be a drag though.  Your idea of why he may be so enamored with him does makes sense.

I'm just not a fan of Vader.  Didn't find him interesting in 1977, really don't find him interesting now.  He's never been anything other than one-dimensional.

Right running the trailer by the better half who hasn't been following the spoilers and isn't really a fan but aware of the older characters. He reads the main female character as a archeologist or scavenger. He saw the trooper as a "clone warrior" who has crashed on "Tatooine". The masked guy worships Vader and wants to continue his success. The girl and the 'clone" guy (later working for the rebels) ends up on the Falcon and the original characters fight is reduced to the level of a myth and Han is confirming that myth to be true. The masked guy can use the Force to hurt people. The Clone is going to fight the masked guy with a blue sword.

That's his take. It's a baton passing of a simple story.

His take is a textbook example of how the trailer worked the way a trailer should.  Other than an understandable miss on the trooper being a clone (because your better half probably goes outdoors occasionally)  ;-), he pretty much has all he needs to know before going into the theater.  The experience will be watching the story unfold and seeing how it all fits together.

Worth mentioning; We're talking about a trailer for the seventh film in a 40-year-old franchise.  A franchise that is far out of the realm of a nerd group or niche fan base.  This franchise, particularly the first film, is so pop-culturally significant that there may be no one who isn't at least aware of the base story and the major characters from the 1970s.

My wife has never seen any of the films and I've heard her reference Princess Leia and Darth Vader on several occasions.  People are complaining the trailer is too cryptic?  That may not even be possible.

Crazy thought, but could Starkiller base actually be a super-weapon hidden inside an entire planet?

....And on the poster we see a Death Star type of super-weapon that looks like a snowy planet with a slit/crevice in the middle.

That was my first thought also.  That super weapon seems to have an asymmetrical surface texture, including some of the scarring visible in your top picture.

But as long as they never go THIS far with it, I'm satisfied at least.

Jesus, all that unnecessary twirling and spinning. George was so in love with that crap.  The ships in that space battle are like his choreographed light saber battles spin-fests.  He'd already started heading in that direction back in Return but it looks like it reached a comedic level in whichever film that is.

The ship clutter is there in this new trailer, but it doesn't appear to have near the ridiculous twirling and spinning.

The full trailer is about what I expected.  They're keeping a tight lid on plot.  We may very well have to wait until December to understand the story.  Two months will be here soon enough.

Man, that Revenge Of The Jedi trailer is rife with awesome avatar possibilities.  I made four that I can't believe have never been used here.  Perfect 80s cheese, and I mean that as a compliment.

More OUT Rerelease Rumors from John Landis!
Time

Here's one article about it.  It's more about the legal wrangling, but Hamill is featured a bit also.

http://www.wired.com/2014/11/batman-home-video-finally/

Here's the part about his personal set.  It just says video tape.  Late 70s it could have gone either way; VHS or Betamax.

“In the ’60s, it was the Beatles, Batman, and Bond,” says actor Mark Hamill, a devotee who would later provide the voice of the Joker in animated and videogame Batman properties. “There was nothing else like it on television. Adam is so underrated as an actor. He walked the line between sincerity and parody and set the tone.”

Hamill used his post-Star Wars celebrity to convince Fox to make videotaped copies of all 120 episodes for him. It was the only “official” collection any fan would see for the next 35 or so years.
