Doctor Who
Time

I may have mentioned already that I never got past the rewrite of The Impossible Girl. They took my favorite companion of all time and rewrote her into an entirely different character. I struggled with Capaldi’s first season, liked only Last Christmas, and so far I’m only vaguely interested in this season.

I was so looking forward to Pearl and Capaldi as a sort of fresh start but they brought in Nardole as some sort of comic relief. ? I’m not at all a fan of those kind of goof characters. After all the mess with Danny, the last thing I wanted to see was yet another year of a third wheel.

He’s taking valuable story and interaction away from Bill. I’m bailing on this season. I’ll watch the episodes with my finger on the FF button to watch the Bill scenes. Truth be told, I never got past the Clara rewrite and Capaldi is collateral damage from that (for me).

Fingers crossed Pearl stays on for the reboot. I’m really digging her.

And for the love of God, BBC, get Phoebe Waller Bridge as the next Doctor.

If not, well then “**** me up the ***”. 😉

I’ll explain the reference if no one gets it. It’s humorous, not mean.

What was your impression of the prequels before they announced the PT?

This is a question I’d like to ask some of the old fans who enjoyed SW during the 80’s and early 90’s: What was your impression of what you thought the prequels were going to be like before they announced the PT?

I’m an old fan who enjoyed Star Wars in 1977. I had a thought or two about a few things that were mentioned in the film but not enough to try and imagine them in-depth. I wasn’t hoping for a second film. The film as it was released was a complete story.

This original trailer still captures the emotion I felt in 1977. https://youtu.be/XHk5kCIiGoM
It was a vast and mysterious universe. That’s the same reason Rogue One is my favorite Star Wars film. It’s mysterious. I don’t need to know everyone’s backstory. The few mentions are enough, just as they were in Star Wars.

It’s not really surprising that everything that came out after 1977 was a disappointment in some form or another. Since you appear to be new here, I’ll point out that I’ve seen TPM once and hated it. I’ve not bothered with the second or third prequel. In 1977 I wasn’t interested in how Vader came to be. Forty years later I’m still not interested. He works best as a one-dimensional bad guy.

Info: Stance 40th anniversary socks
Time

That’s why I only have five pair (four Star Wars, one Astros). They are really nice though. I ant to get a Tarkin pair to complete my personal Rogue One set but they aren’t available without buying the Dark Side set. Not interested in the other s, so no Tarkin. I like the idea of the toys being on six sets but I was 15 years old when the movie came out, so I was already past the toy stage. I never had any of them.

That feeling of caving in to watch it again is exactly why I’ve set up my once-a-week event. Never thinking I’d be in this place again, as you so eloquently put it, is something I totally understand. Truth be told, I’d all but assumed it was impossible. I definitely never expected an adult, dark Star Wars. Your feeling of being back to where you first discovered Star Wars is a perfect description of the phenomenon. In the realm of Star Wars! I’ve never been happier.

Since I’ve had my DVD of Rogue One, I’ve watched it whenever the mood struck. I’ve not made any secret of the fact that it’s my favorite Star Wars film of all (by far) or why. To date, I’ve seen it 13 times. I wanted to watch it this weekend and nearly put it in Friday evening.

I decided instead to go a different route and make it a sort of scheduled event. Instead of finding the time or waiting until I had the time, I decided to schedule the time. So with Summer starting and Star Wars Day last week, I decided to make this my Rogue Summer. I’ll be watching it every Sunday night this summer. That will temper my desire to over do it. This will be a sort of revisit of 1977, which was also the last time I had a deep emotional connection to a Star Wars film.

As the weekend was winding down, I put on my Rogue One socks, got my Death Star ice cube out of the freezer, poured myself a vodka with a splash of cranberry, and settled in for the start of Rogue Summer.

If I haven’t put up anything about the ice cube yet, here’s the link.

The last Zahn book I read, Scoundrals, was so bad I don’t know if I’m ready for Thrawn yet. Might let the taste get out of my brain first.

I didn’t finish it either. Not so much for its being bad, but more because I was distracted with a move (to another city) and never picked it up again. That was also when I had been coming off of all his Mara Jade\Hand Of Judgement work and that really is his wheelhouse. Those, to me, are a tough act to follow.

Wasn’t really sure where a cosplay story would best fit, so here it is. A little girl dressed as Jyn at a con so she could deliver the Death Star plans to the Princess. She gave a set to several versions of Leia. Really neat.

Speaking of EU, like or otherwise, being a huge Zahn\Thrawn fan, this new novel is a given. Really glad he’s back in the fold.

Having gone deep into Rogue One, I thought I’d give this a look as well.

I’m unfamiliar with Luceno’s work. Has anyone read this yet or have any insight on his style. I’m really mostly interested in Krennic and Galen. I’m unfamiliar with the last two prequels, but I do recognize a few of the location names (per Wookiepedia) as having shown up in Prequel discussions.
I’ll skip it if it’s going to be prequel-centric.
