That probably means that no major new alien character is going to be introduced. But existing ones (like Maz and above all Chewbacca) will be featured anyway.

Star Wars Negatives and Interpositives

What about the difference between the “negatives” (with the optical effects applied to them) and the OCN (the reel that was in the camera back then)?

Even if they conformed the official “negative” into something else, there should remain the OCN frames somewhere for all scenes with optical effects (wipes and optical compositions etc).

With the OCN frames all optical effects would have to be recreated digitally which is probably a lot of work.

The Force Awakens: Official Review Thread - ** SPOILERS **
Time

I succeeded in liking the Phantom Menace at the cinema. I knew that it was some kind of a forced love (which Lucas trumped with Anakin vs. Padme one movie later). But I kinda liked it.

Then the DVD arrived and everything got worse. The pacing was off (an already too long race got longer) and some CG scenes surrounding the pod race got longer and more embarrassing. That was the moment when I knew that Lucas himself got off the track. I didn’t know about the special edition changes back then.

I can grasp your feelings with the dialog. I remember feeling embarrassed at the cinema when watching phantom and clones. And I really tried to like those movies. In the end I skipped Sith and watched it with a six pack of beer on TV some years later.

I was soo hesistant when watching TFA at the cinema. And that movie succeeded at what I considered impossible at that time: I felt home in the Star Wars universe again. I think part of that might have been Kasdan’s dialogues in it. But there was the magic again that I remembered seeing th OT as a kid.

If you prefer the Prequels we are fine with that. But the new designs didn’t look like stemming from the same universe than the oscar winning “dull“ ones.

I just want to know what looked dull to you in the PT.

Nothing. You brought up the “dull“ word for the OT, I chose “generic“ for the prequels.

What is wrong with... Attack of the Clones? - a general discussion thread
Time

While AOTC certainly is a bad movie overall I kind of liked some of its settings/locations:

 • The library was kind of “oll korrekt“ and those scenes featured some nice kind of James Bond espionage vibe.

 • I liked Jango Fett fighting Obi Wan on the offshore platform. One of the few scenes where the CGI really holds up even now. The wind and the rain add some realism to those scenes.

 • And Obi Wan’s space chase for Fett was quite ok.

All the stuff on Geonosis was hilarious on the other hand. And Coruscant was hit or miss.

For me George Lucas was always style over substance. Not great storys, not great pieces of acting. Which worked fine when he got the style-side of things right (THX, American Graffiti, Star Wars).

That’s my main grief with the prequels. He couldn’t replicate the Star Wars “style“ and it didn’t feel like the same universe anymore. Many things looked generic and sometimes more like Babylon 5 or Star Trek than Flash Gordon and Ralph McQuarrie.

And being directed by veteran director Kershner Empire is my favorite episode. Because Kirshner squeezed out some great and believable performances out of the actors. In addition to featuring Lucas’ great Star Wars style.

4K restoration on Star Wars

That seems very illogical to me. Practically nobody is interested in a special special edition.

Is that true? At least my impressions from general movie boards were that casual people just hated some of the changes and would prefer a special edition without those. A removal of just some special edition changes would create said special special edition.

Even here on our board there are threads focusing on which was your favorite change to be undone.

They will just release Lucas’ babies. The 77 cut, the 81 cut, the 97 cuts, the '04 cut and the '11 cut were all his. Now we know that nobody will tinker with those.

He’s a Kaleesh that was transformed into a cyborg. Pretty much the only parts that remain of his original body are his eyes, brain, and the rest of his organs.

OK. Basically another Vader with more stuff damaged/replaced. Since the lung obviously doesn’t work properly either, I would have replaced that as well.

If the lung itself is the force bearer that might be the reason to keep it.

Silly, but… well.
