Rogue Zero - What was changed, reshot, etc in Rogue One?
Time

Here’s a short ILM video that serves as a prequel to Rogue One… both the cinematic version and the original, pre-reshoot version(s) of the film.

The short shows Rebel ships transmitting information about the Death Star to Alliance Headquarters. At the very end, just before being blown up, one of the Rebel pilots tries desperately to confirm whether the data was received.

In the final cut of Rogue One, it didn’t get through: the Alliance doesn’t know about the Death Star until Jyn Erso learns about it. But in earlier Rogue One edits, it evidently did get through – trailers show Mon Mothma briefing Jyn about the Death Star, rather than the other way around.

Like the film itself, this short prequel to Rogue One is deliberately designed to be compatible with multiple Star Wars canons.

The trouble is, most of those alternate canons (including varying edits of Rogue One) are currently locked away in the Disney/Lucasfilm vaults.

I’ve played Rebellion, thanks to the GOG version. I would have played Supremacy, but it’s not on GOG, it doesn’t run on 64-bit systems and the sites hosting fanmade patches disappeared a few years ago.

Is there any difference between the two other than the name?

Not that I know of. But like I said, I can’t tell, because GOG only has Rebellion and all the fansites with utilities that let you patch the game yourself for 64-bit systems are dead.

Was this chair in Han Solo’s sky house?

Yep. It even has it’s own article;

http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Most_comfortable_chair_ever_designed

(So, is this from a well known Legends story? I’m a bit surprised that you immediately made that connection.)

It’s from The Glove of Darth Vader, a SW story for kids so bad it’s amazing. The Sky House is infamous among certain quarters of fandom.

And, for the record, I was actually kidding. I didn’t realize the Most Comfortable Chair Ever Designed™ was in the Sky House - though now you mention it, I should’ve made the connection in earnest from the hyperbolic description alone.

Fans too often attempt to make the individual films integrate perfectly with each other and identify what they consider bugs in the plot or with technicalities.

Sure…if Vader can just lift bodies in the air like in Rogue One, why didnt he simply lift Luke as he attempted to fall into Cloud City’s central chasm?

The answer is simple…because it would be silly from an artistic standpoint to see Luke take a dramatic stand; let himself fall and then suddenly is just caught and placed right back where he tried to fall from…or even worse maybe Vader could simply levitate him all the way back to his shuttle. But that too would ruin the drama.

Conversely in R1, Vader could simply not levitate the rebel in that corridor. But even more logically consistent would be if he was slow and plodding and actually got hit a few times given that he’s not quite what he once was. But that wouldnt quite make Vader as menacing as his reputation suggested he was.

Both solutions are far more logical and would allow the films to ‘sync up’ better. But would make each scene individually not as good.

I think Vader levitating Luke on Cloud City was contemplated during production on ESB. Might have been mentioned in the original making of paperback.

Actually, the idea during shooting was that there was wind in the tunnel shaft, which came in rising and falling gusts. So Luke fell a while, then got blown upwards by the changing wind, then fell back down and into a side vent out to the weathervane.

They actually shot footage of Prowse on the gantry looking upward and reacting as Luke bobs up and down in the wind. But it wasn’t used because ultimately it was a rather needless complication.
