***The ADigitalMan non-Star Wars DVD Info and Feedback Thread***
Time
I wanted to take a moment to publicly thank Dark_Jedi for doing some much needed QC on my edits. I did a really lousy job of QC, taking certain things on faith with a lot of these non SW edits. The result was Harry Potter 1 having a nasty glitch that had to be corrected (really, really, really bad, not just a little audio dropout). Fortunately it hadn't been "circulated" before it was discovered.

Anyway, he's watched a ton of my stuff over the weekend and given it all thumbs-up. I want to thank him for being a dedicated couch potato. As a writer and as an editor (of the written word) I know that you can never proofread your own work successfully. Having Hardcore Legend and Dark_Jedi do some valuable proofreading has allowed me to make my projects better.

Sith at the Oscars.
Time
Just as The Matrix even beat Ep 1 for Best FX, so shall be the case with either King Kong or Narnia. I'm betting on Narnia. SW may get nominated, but it won't win. The Shrieking Lizard should be enough to piss off FX voters.

Best Original Score ... this is the one thing it has true hope of winning. I expect there may be some golden raspberries for Hayden and Natalie though. GL may get a special achievement golden raspberry for the entire prequel trilogy.

It's the ratio of usefuleness to uselessness that concerns me. It's tolerable when a useful person has a bad day. It's more annoying when an annoying person has the occasional worthwhile contribution. Occasionally offering something constructive does not excuse being a prick the majority of the time. You earn the right to be a prick and still be considered worthwhile. That's a very important rule of corporate Darwinism.

Lord of the Rings Extended versions
Time
Just watched the EE again last week with the missus, who's since been watching all the appendices as well. I really didn't care for Fellowship in the theatre as I felt it was chopped up to a nauseating level (literally, in my case, the editing actually made me nauseous). Not having the EE to compare it to, I couldn't put my finger on it, but I remember saying that it felt like it had been edited with a meat cleaver.

I got the EE of FOTR for Christmas the following year and THAT is when I fell in love with the LOTR films. Aside from the mumbling and whispering, it was a perfect film. The EE of TTT was even better the next year. The Theatrical ROTK was the only one I enjoyed on its own. The EE restored so much that was still needed, but it also added back a couple of things that actually hurt the movie. On the whole it's still vastly superior. My only beef with the EE of ROTK is that we shouldn't have seen the the army of the dead (I can't recall their proper Tolkien name at the moment) agree to fight and take over the mercenary ships. That really destroyed the surprise appearance of Aragorn and the army when the ships arrived at Minas Tirith. I've even considered my own EE to put this back the way it was in the theatrical version. But all the rest is awesome in my eyes. The EE is the only way to watch the trilogy for me, because it is clear it was intended to be seen this way by the filmmakers.

The top 10 places for George to insert a Jar Jar death scene in the OT
Time
I think the Ewoks need to make Jar Jar their god, since he saved them from being the most annoying race in the galaxy. And then have the AT-ST step on him in the forest battle. The ewok crowds over his his dead body and, instead of crying, exclaims, "louda echawawa, eyya tanga wah" which gets translated by subtitles to "serves you right, you annoying s#!t."

I tried to kill that line, but it would have resulted in a harder edit to the next scene, killing yet another wipe. I tried to preserve as many of the original wipes as possible, not being able to generate them myself.

Maybe in five years, when I re-do this in Blu-Ray, the technology will be better and I'll be better skilled. Hopefully.

For NTSC, Open them in VirtualDubMpeg2, resize to 720x480 using Lanczos3 resize algorithm, and crop 60 pixels from the top and from the bottom (this just trims some of the black bar). Save as uncompressed RGB AVI. Then load the AVIs into TMPGEnc (or whatever your favorite MPEG-2 encoder is) and generate as a 16:9 DVD.

The audio is in 2.0 so you'll need to convert to 5.1 if you want it to mesh with the 5.1 of the main movie. Even if you just leave the other channels blank, it'll get the bitrates and file types to match.

Harry Potter *Spoilers* (Serious Discussions Only, No Flaming)
Time
Don't forget, in the Chamber, the memory of Riddle did not kill anybody, so another horcrux could not have been created at that time. I think he did want to make Gryffindor's sword a horcrux but was unable to get it. We shall see.

The killing of James and Lily could have allowed him to make Harry a horcrux, but I think he was waiting for Harry's death to split his soul for the final time. Thus I think his soul didn't get the final split until the beginning of GOF, at which time Nagini was probably made a horcrux. Dumbledore kinda explains all this and I buy it until otherwise noted.

I'm still on this notion Shim said of Hogwarts as a horcrux. Destroy the school in order to destroy Voldemort. That is just the coolest idea. Much more meaningful for Harry than Gryffindor's sword.

It is the only version of ROTJ available (in single layer ... dual layer is available but not in torrent form to my knowledge).

I'm still toying with making a version 2.0 of the film with a retrospective ending to coincide with completing and releasing ROTS. I think I discussed it earlier in this thread.

Hogwarts as the final horcrux ... now THAT is an amazing idea. In order to destroy Voldemort, Harry would have to destroy Hogwarts. Damn, Shimraa, you should be a writer yourself. If J.K. doesn't do that, you tuck that seed into the fertile soil of your imagination and build a captivating saga of your own around it. That kind of -- je no cest quoi -- is what separates good writing from awesome writing.

don't turn my thread ugly

I believe the thread was not turned ugly by me, but by you yourself when you started it, and with each of your replies that have been quoted above, which I submit respectively as exhibits A, B, C and D. You have been trolling all over this board like a juvenile in the past few weeks; you are indeed being watched and you are indeed risking a ban.
