Movies you enjoy even though you know they're bad
Time
One of my fave movies of all time is considered bad by most, but I actually think it's good. "Hudson Hawk." I think the dialogue moved faster than people could chase ... kinda like "Arrested Development." Now that I think about it, a LOT like "Arrested Development."

"Yellowbeard" is another one of these.

But in terms of truly bad, bad, awful movies, that I enjoy in spite of (or perhaps because of) it's badness is "Les Patterson Saves The World." Any movie that casts Joan Rivers as President is not aiming for Oscar.

Of course. That school of thought has led to FANTASTIC cinematic moments. I'm thinking:

Scarlett
Return to Oz
Caddyshack II
The Return of Jafar
More American Graffiti
Speed 2: Cruise Control
The Color of Money
Book of Shadows: Blair Witch 2
EDIT: Grease 2 ... don't forget that crapfest either

I'm specifically leaving out franchise-killers like Batman & Robin or Rocky V and focusing on "blood-from-a-stone" first sequels that never should have happened. Any more dead horses we can beat?

I can't wait for that sequel "The Passion of the Christ: God's Vengeance." Throw in a resurrected Judas in a robot suit doing space battle with his old nemesis The Nazarene and it'll outgross the original.

X-Men 3 trailer

I was thinking the very same thing. As I watched the trailer I was surprised at how much it still looked like Bryan Singer's visual style, but then I read the "we want it to look totally differnent" line in an interview and I immediately thought "Oh great, new director tries to put his style all over an established one."

After I got over that "Schumaker sticker shock" I realized a few things. Ratner, who isn't all that imaginitive a director, did do a good job making Red Dragon look and feel a LOT closer to Silence of the Lambs. Hopefully he's respecting the look and feel and, as Bossk cited, is making some GOOD decisions like more tactile, less CG-driven stuff. Then when I saw Beast, I actually had a very good vibe. Considering the character was cut from both 1 and 2 because he was going to be such an expensive, all CG-character, I'm glad somebody realized all he needs is a good makeup job and the right actor to make him believable.

I hope this movie doesn't suck. The trailer gives me a LOT of hope for the first time. And I'm still worried about Superman, 'cause that trailer didn't show us anything.

***The "Darth Editous" Episode IV DVD Info and Feedback Thread*** - a partially "de-specialed" DVD
Time
Pardon the cross-post, but it is hopefully clear why one would be necessary.

For those of you who expressed interest in such a project, there is a separate thread now for The Darth Editous / ADigitalMan Hybrid Edition of ANH. To cut down on confusion, lets keep the conversation about that edit in that thread.

The "Darth Editous / ADigitalMan Hybrid Edition" Info and Feedback Thread (Released)
Time

Darth Editous completed his monster edition of Ep IV right about the time I did mine, and I quickly realized how much more I preferred his edition; yet, I was still a fan of a few things in my edition. So I decided to create a hybrid of the two, so that I could have my own definitive edition that I’d want to watch every time. Using his video as a base, I re-inserted six sequences from my edit; namely the extended sandtrooper scene from the SE (I especially liked the music behind this scene) the Greedo scene (Greedo doesn’t shoot in either edit, but it’s handled a bit differently) the Jabba scene (which will immediately prejudice most of you against this version, I admit) the head bonking scene, the Biggs scene, and lastly the post-credits scene I concocted. Otherwise, it’s all Darth Editous’ work, which was just too painstakingly detailed to mess with.

Then, for the audio, I re-synched my custom 2005 mix throughout (that straightens out the tie sounds, and then plugged DE’s audio back in, keeping several of DE’s corrections. Especially the scenes where he fixed particularly bad audio with Owen, with Ben, and with Tarkin / Alderaan’s destruction. This created a “best of breed” that took advantages of different corrections we both made to the audio. It should absolve any issues noted in the Alderaan / Hyperspace scenes where the subwoofer was overdriven by lopping my edit out at those points … 'cept on the Heresy Mix, which really doesn’t matter anyway.

I should note that the audio did not need to be recompressed again from our respective mixes. Because they were both generated at 448kbps, Womble let me stitch the regions together without recompression. To my ear, they blended quite seamlessly without the need to rip them apart, crossfade them, and then re-compress them back into AC3. Thank Womble for small wonders.

As it stood, the Hybrid Edition was only about 4% larger than the length of a SL disc, so I created two versions. A SL version that is compressed only 4% from the source, and a DL version that includes the Heresy Mix, resynched. Now that I think about it, I should probably put the 1997 mix in the DL version as well. But I’m leaving the 2004 mixes off entirely, even though space permits. They’re just not worth the time.

Anyway, first and formost, the thanks goes primarily to Darth Editous, not only for making the basis of this project but also being cool enough to agree for me to let it escape my private collection. I remain appreciative for all of his help on the prequel and ANH re-edits and wanted to acknowledge him publicly once again.

This thread is separate from our respective threads to cut down on confusion, and I’ll try my best to keep feedback on this particular version directed into this thread to keep the distinction from becoming muddy over time.

***The ADigitalMan non-Star Wars DVD Info and Feedback Thread***
Time
I don't quite have the guts to send this to Bruckheimer/Bay. I'm not terribly concerned about my own a$$ since I do own the movie outright. But I do worry about bringing unneeded attention here. The hope (and admonishment) is that everybody who sees this will pick up a used copy on the cheap to properly license every re-edit they posess. But these rich Hollywood screwballs don't take constructive criticism well and love to lash out with punishment.

I've wondered if Affleck would actually appreciate this flick. Now that J. Lo is out of the picture he sounds like he's becoming a down-to-earth guy again.

Help Wanted: Request - Sound FX for ROTJ finale
Time

I’m looking to re-create the sounds heard in the finale of the ROTJ SE without any background music (working on a pet project). I’m currently in need of:

 1. Twin-Pod Cloud car passing by

 2. Cheering crowds

 3. The “rumble” from Palpatine’s statue falling down.

 4. Fireworks.

Some of these can likely be supplemented from Non-SW sources, but the cloud car will be hard to reproduce from other sources. Any ideas?

If the Prequels had been made first would they have succeeded?
Time
When adjusted for inflation we clearly see that the prequels have, in fact, NOT been as successful as the OT. Furthermore, after Episode I, which burned many lifelong fans, we see a plummet in the box office.

It is also interesting to note that ESB, which LFL has actually slighted for having the lowest box office returns, is actually second-highest when adjusted for inflation, after the juggernaut of ANH.

It is extremely important to recognize the box office haul in terms of its period in history. What happened in 1977 was extraordinary, and if Gone With The Wind didn't have a 38-year head start in an age where theatrical re-releases were common, I daresay that Star Wars would have actually eclipsed it.
