24 - Day 5
Time
Here be spoilers ... read at your own risk.

I continue to wonder why I'm so addicted to the show when the writing is so positively abyssmal so much of the time. Jack is a complete badass -- one of TV's coolest characters ever -- yet the writers give short shrift to his supporting cast, regularly channelling their inner Roger Corman. I just don't get it some times.

Case in point this week: Chloe zapping the obnoxious dude was priceless. One of the highlights of the year for me. But then nothing came of it. Now, anybody who has heard a tazer go off in a quiet room knows every head turns to know what the hell that sound was. Nobody looked. Then apparently nobody noticed the body slouched beside her for half an hour. I wanted fallout to come as a result of this, because Chloe is an analyst, not a field agent. She would make a tactical error like that that could jeopardize what she's doing. But her no-B.S. demeanor would brilliantly devise a way to talk herself out of pretty much anything. Great potential, horrible execution once again.

For anybody who finds some of the finer points of the show wretched (as I do) but still can't get enough, check out Dave Barry's 24 Blog at the Miami Herald. Truly priceless commentary.

Superman Movie
Time
I think the idea of the story gives the film promise. I haven't had a warm fuzzy about the casting (except Spacey as Lex, natch) or the screw-up in Supe's costume (dark burgundy != red). It's all going to be in the execution. Singer is 4 for 4 wiith me, which means either he's gonna pull a rabbit out of his hat for this, or that he's going to have his Ishtar. Either could happen.

Unless its universally panned, I'll likely make a point of seeing this film in 3D IMAX once, then wait for the Donner Cut of Superman II to come out on DVD. That's the REAL Superman movie I'm waiting for.

BEAUTIFUL WOMEN NEW RULES IN FIRST POST (NSFW) UPDATED RULES
Time
I consider Kiera to be quite the Classic Beauty, even if she's a modern-day actress. Here's a not-so classic shot of Kiera in a bikini pumping ... iron. Since it's not a shot in the Classic style of her, I'm linking to it.

Now, the more traditional Classic Beauty, Princess Grace Kelly:

Grace in the water
Grace in royal getup
More Grace
Even more grace
Return of the son of the bride of more Grace, Part II, the Revenge

Am I the only human being who thinks this dude has less charisma than Jimmy Olsen?

i don't understand what you mean? you don't think adam is charismatic?

Correct. He's like a young, male Sandra Bernhardt. One of those people who manages to get work in Hollywood in spite of acting talent or looks. See, Paul Giamatti is ugly as sin, but he can make you believe he's anybody he portrays. Brad Pitt is a worse actor than Elvis, but he's got looks that keep women lining up. IMO, Adam Brody seems to have none of the blessings and all of the curses.

Then again, I'm a dude. I suppose I'm not good at grading other dudes. But suffice it to say that this dude just doesn't see what draws women to that dude.

HD-DVD/Blu-Ray Digital Rights Management
Time
This year sees the launch of a new generation of home video systems, HD-DVD and Blu-ray Disc, which offer high definition video and are seen as the successors to DVDs. DVD was launched with anti-piracy technology that was easily cracked. According to the Motion Picture Association of America, video piracy now costs the industry about $3.5bn annually, mostly through pirated discs. In 2004, the MPAA seized more than 76m worldwide, an increase of 44% on 2003.
Poor, poor MPAA. Fortunately for the movie industry, they have charity to help them through the hard times. It's called swag.

Wasn't de-CSS written by a 13-year old? What y'all wanna bet that AACS gets defeated by somebody even younger.

I may be wrong, but I think that if you get a return for insufficient postage, you can take the unopened package back to the P.O. and have them just add on the difference.

Another trick: If you ever get something not intended for you, you can simply put a "forward to" followed by the correct address on an unopened package and stick it back in the mail. They'll usually re-route it with no problem.
