Info: The NEW 007 DVD's
Time
I'm holding off for the inevitable BR release. I'm doing that on most titles now, renting them instead, given all the obnoxious double-dipping going on in the DVD world now. The original Bond set was already fantastic. I'm positive this one looks better, but it's pretty much a downgraded HD transfer in the first place. For that reason, when I go HD, I'll likewise do so with my disc titles. No sense in letting the studio triple-dip into my wallet. So I'm picking up Casino Royale on DVD and that's it.

Alien vs Predator 2!?
Time
Alien & Aliens are they only ones I consider as canon in my mind. While I loved Dutton's character in Alien-cubed, and thought the notion of Ripley carrying a queen was brilliant, the ham-fisted disposal of the survivors of Aliens was the ultimate slap in the franchise's face. All that deep character development surrounding Ripley's attachment to Newt was pissed away in the opening credits. The fact that Sigourney went cueball was just the dingleberry on top of a shit sundae.

In my rose-colored world, Ridley Scott and James Cameron will team for "Aliens Return" wherein the third and fourth films will be written off as a bad hyper-sleep dream.

Alien vs Predator 2!?
Time
I could have stomached it were it not for it's disrespect for continuity. Apparently you can go from egg to face hugger to chest burster to adult in minutes in the Paul WS Anderson world. And there were no compelling characters. No Ripley. No Dallas. No Hicks. No Bishop. No Charles S. Dutton bible-verse spewing religious nut. The characters are what made the Alien flicks so engrossing. The suspense was simply the glue that bound it together.

Who's this "Jay" wanker and where does he get off calling himself "Emperor?" A guy who only makes 1145 posts in over four years clearly can't be all that valuable to a community.

I'll bet he'll be back in a few days, probably posting under a different name, claiming he knows some guy who saw a restored anamorphic transfer of the O-OT but wasn't allowed to reveal his sources for fear of jeopardizing jobs at Lucasfilm.

Young Indiana Jones... a preservation (* unfinished project *) - a mass of info & ideas
Time
GL did say this last week. JediSage posted it in Off-Topic. No official announcement on IndianaJones.com yet, but it is supposed to be gorgeously restored, so it's probably worth the wait. Though if it doesn't include the original Old Indy bumpers in supplements, then theres a great excuse for preservation.

No context whatsoever. That page had no other story attached. It was from "Did I Ever Tell You How Lucky You Are" where a guru in the desert tells a kid about how much worse all these other persons' lives are. Harry Haddow apparently has bad Gizz. End of character development.

And I love you most of all. But let's not get all Brokeback.
Semi-off topic: For those of you out there who hate "The Sound of Music" or have friends who do, simply look at it from a slightly different perspective. If you view it as the story of a hot young nun who leaves the convent to marry a wealthy older sailor and deliver a sly musical "fuck you" to the Nazis before running off to Vermont, it's pretty cool.

I've gotta give this description to the missus. Sound of Music is her favorite film, so she'll love this new description, though to me it sounds like the tagline for the Michael Bay remake. I can hear Don LaFontaine delivering your writeup now, along with, "In a world where love is forbidden ..." Then a graphic of a musical note morphing into a swastika, followed by a BIG EXPLOSION. "The Sound of Music ... It's more than meets the ear."
