Info: Adopt a Newsgroup Poll for fanedits
Time
I found a great newsgroup search engine that allows you to search by NFO file name and if the poster creates NZB files for their post then you can download the NZB file and open it in your newsgroup reader (if it supports NZB - I use Newsbin Pro which does) and you'll automatically have all the posts added to your download list. Here is the search engine.

nfos.ngindex.com

@ segaflip - If you start creating NZB files for your posts then people could just grab that file and you could post to the bigger groups like a.b.dvd and the size the of the daily message updates wouldn't be an issue.

As it is I don't really have a problem with either a.b.superman (though a lot of garbage gets dumped here) or a.b.dvd5 (very light traffic but not as widely carried)

Downloading BLAX20 from a.b.dvd5 right now! Thanks again sega!

Fincher's "The Game" Computer Version
Time
When the movie The Game (1997) was out you could go to the official website and complete a couple of simply little Flash games and your prize was a little "home version" of The Game that you could download and run on your PC. It asked you a bunch of questions, just like in the film, and then told you that you had not been accepted and proceded to mess with your mind and your computer over the next couple of days (it would reverse your mouse, change your wallpaper and other demented tricks) until it had run its course. I lost this little home version when my HDD crashed years ago and have never been able to find it anywhere and was wondering if anyone out there in never never land had a copy that they could upload somewhere for me. The original website for the film at http://www.the-game.com/ has long since been taken down. I would love to try out this little mindbender again. I'm also interested to see how many people even remember this little gem of a movie tie-in.

I respect the rights of filmmakers to do what they want with their films, but I just think that they should do it before we see it and not after. Don't give me something and then take it away. If a filmmaker is going to change something after the fact it should at least be adding something to the film, not taking away from it. This is the very same reason that after I purchased the Evil Dead: Book of the Dead DVD I went out and bought a copy of the Elite release so that I could have the film in its original presentation as well.

Kick-ass horror movies
Time
There are obviously so many great classic horror films like Jaws, Phantasm, Evil Dead, Dawn of the Dead, Hellraiser, The Omen, Carpenter's The Thing, Alien, The Howling, Cronenberg's The Fly, Cannibal Holocaust, Suspiria, The Beyond and Last House on the Left but in the last 15 years (considered by many to be a lean time for good horror fans) my top 5 would include In The Mouth of Madness, The Lord of Illusions, The Resurrected, The Devil's Reject and The Blair Witch Project. Dog Soldiers comes close as does the remake of The Ring, its one of the few remakes that I would consider superior to the original (along with the '78 Invasion of the Body Snatchers and John Carpenter's The Thing). Also give me pretty much anything by Carpenter and I'll take it. Prince of Darkness, They Live, The Thing, The Fog, Halloween and even Ghosts of Mars; loved them all!

@ Segaflip - I've seen Killer Klowns, in fact I have it on DVD. Classic. I love the theme by The Dickies!

@ 3RA1N1AC - The point is really that we've all grown up with the full frame version of the film, not the widescreen one and to take away the top and bottom of the picture now when its considered a modern horror classic is the same as George messing the O-OT. Just like the recent "widescreen" release of The Sting, its always been available as full frame and now we have to suffer with the cropped version, just a shame. I hate that they are now altering the aspect of some classic movies only to fit widescreen TV's. Its the exact same crap that we put up with for years with Pan & Scan versions of films on VHS (and to some extent still on DVD), removing information from the frame for the sake of the masses. Utter B.S. if you ask me.

Blade Runner - PAL and NTSC - jedi/feta (Released)

I currently have 3 different LD preservation copies of Blade Runner: The International Cut. One from Farsight, dark_jedi's new transfer and one that I got from TR47 when I acquired the Cowclops V.2 from him. Here are screen caps from each so that people may compare the relative quality of each.

~~~Segaflip's Newsgroup Posting List~~~
Time
Segaflip, I for one can say that I have no end of appreciation for the hard work you are putting into uploading these items to the newsgroups but I must say that uploading to a.b.dvd is going cause quite a problem for most people that want to get those items that will be uploaded there. I added this newsgroup to my fave list in nbpro in anticipation of your uploads and asked it to add new posts and the initial post download is over 9,000,000! That is a lot of posts to plow through before you can even download anything. Also the daily update count is in excess of 2,000,000 posts compared to a.b.starwars daily 130,000. Just wondering if you could see your way to upload any content mentioned here to a.b.starwars if for no other reason than it will be much easier access with, I'm guessing, longer retention times. I don't want to tell you how to do things I'm just trying to make things easier for everyone here that loves and appreciates your hard work. So sorry if you take any offence to this suggestion.
Star Wars: Classic Edition by Ocpmovie (Released)
Time
I just got the Classic Edition from a.b.starwars (thanks segaflip) and I must say that this is one awesome presentation. This is probably the definitive fan preservation version of Star Wars. After seeing the job you've done with Star Wars, and I'm sure this has already been asked, are you planning anything like this for ESB or ROTJ? In any case, amazing job and now I have to go find Deleted Magic (although I think segaflip has me covered there)!
Three cheers for ocpmovie!
What do you use to master your DVD's?
Time
I'm fairly new to the whole DVD mastering thing, I've played around with a few programs but I haven't really spent the time to master just one. I tried DVD Architect and didn't like it, I found TMPGEnc DVD Author to be really simple to use but limited in what it could do and just recently I've started to play around with a combination of Womble MPEG Video Wizard and DVD-lab and I like the results I'm getting with those two the best so far. That being said I was wondering what the old pro's here in the forums are using to master and compile their DVD's? One tool or a combination of many? Lastly, what made you settle on the tools that you do use?
The Cowclops Transfers (a.k.a. the PCM audio DVD's, Row47 set) Info and Feedback Thread (Released)
Time
Doctor M: I have yet to see any fan created DVD set that did not have some level of compression artifacting. This includes both Cowclops versions. V.2 is better than V.1 and that was better than almost every other release out there but even in V.2 there are still compression artifacts. Its impossible to totally get rid of them because your dealing with MPEG-2 video which is compressed and by its nature is bound to have some level of artifacting. Next time you're watching your "TR-47" release discs check out the title cards and the opening crawl and tell me you don't see some compression artifacts there, its not serious but if you look you'll see them. These are the same sort of artifacts that you get when watching digital satellite/cable, small blocks appearing in the picture, usually in dark areas of the screen.
OT_Wan: Welcome to the forums. I wouldn't bring up the DVD-9 vs. DVD-5 debate in this thread if I were you. Its a real sore spot with some. Just a bit of friendly advice.
The Cowclops Transfers (a.k.a. the PCM audio DVD's, Row47 set) Info and Feedback Thread (Released)
Time
Here are clips of the beginning of ANH with C-3PO and R2-D2 in the corridor of the ship. There is a clip from v.1 and v.2, the only change is that the audio has been converted to AC3 to make the file size smaller. The video is exactly the same as you would find on the DVD's.
cowclops_v1_sample.zip
cowclops_v2_sample.zip
The clips are hosted on Rapidshare.de so that I don't have to worry about bandwidth issues and they can stay up as long as necessary. Please download both clips and compare the video quality for yourself.
The Cowclops Transfers (a.k.a. the PCM audio DVD's, Row47 set) Info and Feedback Thread (Released)
Nope, I guarantee you they're not. If you zoom in on the pictures you will see less jaggies in the new version but based on the screen caps overall quality appears to be better in the original release. Keep in mind though that a single frame capture is not a good measure of picture quality, you really need to compare video clips not screen caps. Trust me this new transfer is at least of equal quality and in many cases better, especially where there was compression artifacts in the original release there are almost none in the new release. In any case though don't throw away those original TR-47 releases just yet, especially if you own a standard television. My main gripe about this new release is that the black bars at the top and bottom of the picture aren't quite as black as the ones generated by my DVD player so I can see the seperation point, though if you own a widescreen set this won't be an issue.
