I dunno if you're gonna get much help here. Maybe you should try the avs forum or the home theater forum.

You know, this place use to be extremely awesome and filled with members who could really help you with this question, but these days all we really do is make dumb jokes, post stupid pictures, and act extremely pious in our justifications of our dumbassery to our fellow members.

In short, Ferris' advice is probably the best you're going get our of this place. Good luck.

It depends what you mean by pretty cheaply it would help if you gave a more specific ball park figure.

well a ballpark figure would be from 50 dollars to 150 dollars

It is a bit bizarre but it seems that being in the UK is an advantage for Ebaying for laserdisc players.

There are a number of them up at the moment on Ebay UK (the problem being not so much the shipping charges which shouldn't be that much but more the hidden charge of customs the saga of Adywan's monitor springs painfully to mind).

It's worth a look though as some of them could fit well into your price bracket even with the charges if you get lucky (though you might end up paying to ship a second hand disc collection as well...maybe asking the seller if they want to put the disc in for a second auction might save on postage).

None of them really leap off the page in terms of video noise reduction.

He was looking for recommendations on a specific model that he could get cheaply AND that has better noise reduction than his CLD-D503, not just a long winded recommendation to check out ebay.

He is looking for a replacement on Ebay, within a price bracket which has a better handling of video noise reduction.

I looked.

Most of players I found in the price bracket were on the UK side of Ebay.

I added a warning about the potential pitfalls of shipping them over.

He specifically said he was looking for one on Ebay.

well not like dnr that you can do with the remote but just gives a less noisy picture in general you know what i mean right?

Yeah, I know exactly what you mean. Unfortunately, I just don't know enough about LD players to give you any solid model recommendations. I can, however, tell you that if you buy one from the UK, alongside extra shipping and potential customs fees, you are going to end up with a piece of equipment that will be useless to you (assuming you live in the US). Not only do you have power differences to deal with, but a PAL LD player isn't going to be able to play any of your NTSC laserdiscs.

Not many of our old LD savvy tech guys still frequent the forum, that I know of, but either way, you might consider changing the name of the topic to "Laserdisc player recommendations" or something more specific that might catcht he eye of anyone with some decent knowledge in that department. You might also consider posting this in the "How-To's and Technical Discussions" section.

Ive owned a U.K. Pioneer CLD 515 and a CLD925 both played PAL and NTSC discs no problem.

^Most of them currently up do play both formats (many of them were originally US imports so they would be coming home if you were lucky enough to find what you were looking for there) but that too is another important consideration.

The guide at the bottom of here might help picking a model out, though there is no guarantee that they will be in your price bracket in your region.

Best advice besides checking ebay is to check local listings-especially craigslist. You can usually find a relatively high-end player on the cheap that someone has found in their closet. I got a mint Pioneer cld-d702 for $25 this way and it works great (just wish it had come with the remote...) Had considered one on ebay but the shipping can be murder.

Not sure which model to recommend. Depends on what features you are looking for. Nowadays it can be like finding a needle in a haystack.

Check laserdiscarchive.co.uk for a listing of models and details.

... pick up a Pioneer LD-V8000 the most under rated lasedisc player ever, it gives a better picture than the Pioneer S9 and can be regularly found on ebay or at dealers for less than 50 bucks. Very very clean signal path and a great image, better than any of the 704, 703, CLD-97, 99, S9 etc. that all suffer from smearing.

That is a pretty useful guide. I think however that the "top" players like the CLD-97 and 99 still fetch a high price on ebay.

You might want to look for the CLD-1010, a player that supposedly has a good picture but can be picked up fairly cheaply.

ok thanks moth3r ill have a nice search upon ebay for a 1010

1010 and LD-V8000 sounds good to me, the 1010 has some of the hardware that the LD-S1 has but no audiophile components and copper plating. The red laser is a bonus that the S1 doesn't have. The Rf demodulator for Ntsc video is newer in your player so dont be disappointed if the others have a softer image.
