XM is launching a Star Wars channel

Just heard the promo for it a few minutes ago.  Starts this Wednesday, channel 146.  They didn't give too many details. Just said interviews and such.  McGregor did the promo.  Since I listen to XM almost exclusively,  I'm sure I'll give it a listen.

I'm not finding any reports on this.  Besides some posts in forums mentioning that it's 'Star Wars Celebration Radio' so it's possible this is a rebroadcast of the 4 days of coverage they did during Celebration V.  Would make sense to do this over the extended holiday weekend.

It'd be a cool opportunity to rebroadcast the radio dramas.  Maybe they'll even get around to the prequels, which I know you would love, Anchorhead.

They should just have a guy reading all the posts in off-topic for those afraid to tread there.

Gave it a listen on the way to work this morning.  It's just a replay of the Celebration V days.  I caught the last few minutes of an Anthony Daniels interview.  I have to say, he doesn't strike me as terribly humble.  There were a few times where he was unnecessarily condescending when speaking about fans who came out to see him or people who sometimes interview him. Not impressed.

After his interview, they did a remote from inside some sort of gift shop.  When they started to describe how cool the Clone Wars Yoda Christmas tree ornament was, I bailed.  Overall, I lasted about fifteen minutes total.  Not for me.

I think it's the general consensus than Daniels is an ass. I understand he was pretty unkind to Kenny Baker, during filming and otherwise.

Yes, I've heard/read that too.

On the flip side of the same coin, roasting in a droid costume you can't even really sit down in for hours on end could make anyone really pissy. ;)

It's not like Kenny Baker had an easier role.

Regarding Daniels, the interviews on the Bring Back... Star Wars show, aired in 2008, presented him in a poor light. See the discussion here.

For what it's worth, I met Daniels this summer at FanExpo in Toronto, Canada.  He seemed very congenial, taking the time to talk with each person who was in line for an autograph.  When it was my turn, we chatted for a few moments before he personalized his autograph to me.  Then, when I mentioned that my two-year-old daughter was beginning to watch Star Wars, he grabbed another photo and addressed it to her for free (pic+autograph being about $40 or so).  I thanked him, said it was great meeting someone from a film I'd been watching since childhood, shook his hand, and went on my way.  Overall, he seemed very nice and did not rush, unlike other celebrities in attendance.

In between autograph sessions, he even walked around the convention floor to pose for photos with fans.  Personally, I'd say he was one of the nicer celebrities I've encountered.

I would guess he plays up the fussy butler image of 3po in public situations but when one on one he's normal.  He definitely hams it up for the press.  Knowing what we know of him now it's great to compare him to a post SW interview where he doesn't even know he's coming back for the sequel.

One hazard of being famous is if you're having a bad day, it's transcribed into the public record for all time.

Remember the story about Alec Guinness and the kid who happily told him he's seen Star Wars about a hundred times? And that was before everyone had a cell phone camera in their pocket!
