What's up with the shaving cream to mark the ball spot and defender line during free kicks?  I mean, I get it, but why isn't it used all the time?  Is it referee discretion?  Dependent on the situation?  Or the field?

There's a sport that does all that without the padding.... It's called rugby!!!!!

I really don't think that today is the day to be mocking other countries sports. England's worst performance since 1958.

I've seen that 1958 statistic in various places, people seem to be forgetting that in 1994 under Graham Taylor we didn't even manage to qualify.

Anyway, I don't know why we're complaining, we've wished for years that our national team could play like Spain.

Oh, and I would love for you to walk up some big and strong American football player and call him a p****  to his face and see what happens  : )

 He'd probably shoot you.

why would he need to do when he could break every bone in your body with one punch?

I'd show him a real mans chick, then watch him cry in his padding

Could you guys stop your dick-measuring contest long enough to let someone answer my question about the shaving cream?

I don't know much about it, but apparently it's a new thing, and it's up to the referee to use it. I mean, if you're the ref and you think the defending players will behave and not try to gain inches, you don't spray.

I don't really care about sport, any sport, and I don't understand watching it on tv. Unless I'm with friends who know that I don't care, and they're ok with me making odd remarks and dumb jokes at the screen.

However, one night my dad was flipping through the channels and stumbled on a snooker match. I was oddly fascinated, had the rules explained to me, and watched till the very end, it was late too.

I aware I was in such a a contest and how does it interfere with someone answering your question.

no offense, but why did you come into this thread then?

and I don't understand watching it on tv.

what is not to understand?   Not everyone can be there in person and tickets to pro sporting events are very expensive.   Therefore, you do the next best thing, watch it on TV.

Unless I'm with friends who know that I don't care, and they're ok with me making odd remarks and dumb jokes at the screen.

I'm glad I know this.  No offense, but I never want to watch a sporting event with you.

well, maybe snooker is your thing.  feel free to enjoy.

I come into every thread. I was answering Frink's question, to be more precise. My remarks made after the first paragraph were just to complete the post with a personal experience, to give a bit of a different angle on the whole thing. Sorry I have an opinion.

I don't understand watching it. Period. I could understand playing it, but even that really holds my interest for literally 10 minutes.

None taken, but it sounds like you haven't met a lot of people, have you? Even within sports fans, I assume it's accepted to riff at a game while enjoying it and having a beer.

You sound like loads of fun!

Go ahead, sigh.

whoa, no need to apologize for having a opinion.  I just found it curious that someone who does not like sports would go into what is clearly a sports thread.

I guess its not for everyone.

sure it is accepted to riff and make jokes, but you sounded like you'd be making fun of sports, watching sports, and sports fans and the like.  That would annoy me while watching sports.  Maybe I am weird that way.

You just read too much into it.

Sorry if this may sound brusque, I'm not mad at you, I'm just explaining, but.... I'm not that much of an asshole that I'm gonna make fun of sports fans, or the whole watching sports on tv, WHILE I'm with them and they're trying to have fun. I would do nothing to would spoil MY FRIENDS's fun. If I understand they're not pleased with my behaviour, I'll stop, and let them have their 90 minutes of relax.

Otherwise, if the atmosphere is right, we'll all joke about dumb things commentators say, dumb advertisement breaks, players' goofy faces during the slowmo replay, jackasses in the stands.... the works.

The key thing is I do these things with my friends, with people that know me. I'd never think it wise to just pop up in a random bar and laugh my ass off, alone, while strangers try to watch a game. I'm not a sports fan, but, again, I'm not that much of an asshole.

ok, maybe I did read too much into it and maybe I would be willing to watch a sporting event with you.

Thanks Moth3r.  It's strange that the referee has full discretion on when to use it.
