Author

So, it's passed 12 AM EST and though I have made the reservation I can't download the update yet. Have any of you made a reservation and are on the first wave?

I hope Windows 10 is a lot better than Windows 8.

I am just getting used to Windows 7!    It will be awhile before I make the switch.

Mine still says to wait for the notification that will come AFTER July 29. I imagine there are a lot of waves to go through.

Well, I spent 4 hours since 12 AM downloading and installing the thing. First impressions are that booting and starting up have severely slowed down. Otherwise, things seem fine.

There's no such thing, unless you mean Windows 9x :P

I found out that my laptop doesn't have the right video drivers, so I rolled back to Windows 7. I guess I'll wait until those issues are resolved.

Are you suggesting that something Frink said wasn't on the level?  Because I won't stand for it.

But you will sit for it.

I will avoid the update as long as possible

Just to be clear, when it says...

"Free to upgrade for the first year"

...this means...

"Upgrading within the first year will be free of charge because we really want you to upgrade early. No strings attached!"

...not...

"We'll let you use it for a year and then hit you with a huge bill and/or charge you to keep the system upgraded. Evil laugh"

Can anybody point me to somewhere where the first scenario is spelled out in 10ft tall letters? My researches seem to suggest it really is the former option. But surely that can't be the case, this is Microsoft right?! LOL

This statement about Windows10 sounds more like the Microsoft we know...

"Windows10 automatically receives all non-critical updates, in addition to automatic driver updates, as they are released without the possibility of declining them" (There is a bit of this now anyway)

Really, people are complaining about solitaire? If the ads are so offensive, people could look up a FLOSS solitaire game.

They should start playing "Spider Solitaire" a way way better Windows card game.

So is that aero window transparency thing no longer a thing in Windows 10?

Free, from a certain point of view. ;)

It's a small issue for sure but it's that kind of thing that worries. Swapping an awesome OS that I paid good money for like Win7Pro, for a free OS that has features limited, or there's less of them.

Well, this computer was a blessing, super fast, no problems with Windows 8 (aside from the fact that it is actually inferior to Windows 7).  Now that I've upgraded, it appears my hardware may not be up to the task for the speed I like. :(

Sounds like a bad '70's math textbook word problem. ;)

Where were you in '77?

The only reason I'm interested in 10 is because of the new Directx. They just had to make it exclusive...
