Yeah, I suppose your right. I just can't get enough of my Yoda bouncing around like a monkey with a glow stick. But if you want really sad, you should see my Special Edition of Howard the Duck.

Sure.
*backs away slowly*
right now, the only ones ive watched in the past few years have been:
ANH:Revisited which is just pure awesomeness. Its the definitive version for me.
TPM: L8wters edit. Very well done. Decent movie now.
ROTS : Stankpac's edit, thought it was decent.
I own all 3 prequels on DVD, have never purchased a star wars OT version after the VHS "faces" version I had which was what I watched when i was a kid (prolly in the 10-12 range maybe?)
I just downloaded DJ's V3 of of the OT thanks to myspleen and plan to watch them on my ATV 2g using XBMC in the next few days since I dont care to burn them right now. Will be the first time ive watched star wars pre SE since i was a kid and wore out my VHS copies :-(

A Goon in a Gaggle of 'em
My preferred versions of the OT will be Harmy's DeSpecialized versions, once they're finished.
And when I feel like inflicting pain on myself by watching the prequels, I'll watch a new set of them every time. There are so many fan edits, and it'll make it more fun to have it be different.
By the way, Frink, with all your knowledge of the intricacies of the prequel fan edits, it may be worthwhile for you to put together ten or so "prequel run-throughs" where you pair different fan edits together that are compatible.
For example, you could pair L8wrtr's TPM, Spence's AOTC, and Stankpac's ROTS. Or ADigitalMan's TPM, DiamondCut's AOTC, and AEMovieGuy's ROTS. The only difficult part is making sure their changes are compatible with each other. Just an idea, and you could even give each "run through" a composite score.

I'll admit it, that probably still gives me a chuckle. Not every Gungan antic was entirely stupid.
I dunno. I think the only Jar Jar antic I might've liked (not when I was 10, but you know... in the here and now) was when Qui-Gon caught his tongue.
His rant about the Force and loss of energy was cool, too. Kinda.

Interesting idea... It would certainly be handy. After all, some edits can't be paired, like Magnoliafan's...
I've been wondering myself lately which fan edits could be paired, a compatibility list would be very cool
As of right now, I have no preferred version. I think we're kinda spoilt with so many GREAT versions being available now. I'm gonna hold out for the blu-rays in september and Ady's ESB Revisited before I compile my new list of favourites. 8)
LOL, I find this thread to be a nice little ego boost :-)
As I said elsewhere, I made my PDE HD versions in the first place for myself, so that I'd have a version I'd want to watch, so I watched those and now I'm gonna watch my new versions.
The only other versions I may turn to sometime could be Puggo's for a vintage feel viewing, especially Empire when it comes out, because from what I've seen of it, it looks great. I don't think I'll ever watch the GOUT again.
Actually, I also have the P&S Czech dubbing VHS that I watched as a kid preserved on DVD, so I may one day turn to those for nostalgia :-)
Star Wars Harmys PDE.
Editdroids SW1977.
Adywans hd 2004 version
Wookie Groomers blu ray
Lee Thorogood's LD preservation.
1993 VHS copied to dvd.
Empire Harmy despecialized version.
Harmys PDE version.
Adywans reconstruction.
Adywans 97 hd version.
Wookie Groomers blu ray
Lee Thorogood's LD preservation.
1993 VHS copied to dvd.
Jedi Harmys theatrical reconstruction.
Harmys PDE.
Lee Thorogoods LD preservation.
1993 VHS copied to dvd.
I expect Harmys despecialized Star Wars and Jedi to go to the top of the list when they become available.

Honestly, most of the edits are running together in my mind to the point that I have to consult the cutlists or spreadsheets to remember who did what.
And this idea sounds like too much work for me. But you have my blessing to do it yourself ;-)
Here's a few "Prequel Run-Throughs" with composite scores.
Phantom editor's 1 and 2 + Stankpac's 3 (8.98)
L8wrtr's 1 + Spence's 2 and 3 (8.55)
Slumberland's 1 + Spence's 2 + Stankpac's 3 (8.47)
Phantom editor's 1 and 2 + AEMovieguy's 3 (8.35)
ModernKnife's 1 + Spence's 2 and 3 (8.12)
Slumberland (8.11)
Phantom editor's 1 and 2 + Corgicar's 3 (8.09)
JasonN (7.95)
ADigitalMan's 1 + DiamondCut 2 + ADigitalMan's 3 (7.8)
I think my preferred version of Star Wars is as follows:
ANH - Harmy's De-SE
ESB - Harmy's De-SE
ROTJ - Harmy's De-SE
And, when I feel like self-mutilation, I would watch these prequel edits:
TPM - L8wrtr's Ep 1
AOTC - Spence's Ep 2
ROTS - Stankpac's Ep3
What kind of name is Stankpac? Gross.
I do not watch the following for great picture quality or sound(although the dolby matrixed 4 track encoded VHS hi-fi stereo tracks when decoded through dolby pro-logic give modern 5.1 digital tracks a run for their money).
I just watch them to enjoy the most important thing above all others--the story.
1)
Star Wars:
Twentieth Century Fox 1982 VHS linear stereo video (rental library 1st home video release)
2)
Empire Strikes Back:
CBS/Fox 1984 VHS hi-fi stereo video(1st home video release)
3)
Return Of The Jedi:
CBS/Fox 1986 VHS hi-fi stereo video(1st home video release)
There is also something quite cool about watching video tapes that are roughly from the era that the films had their original theatrical runs.
I saw Star Wars in 1977. Many, many, many times. For 3 years it was just Star Wars...period. I saw it in good theaters, cheap theaters and drive-ins with those clunky metal speakers you hang on your window. The screen and sound quality never subtracted from the excitement. I can watch the original cut right now, over 30 years later, on some beat up VHS tape and enjoy it. It's the story that makes this movie. Nothing? else.

Awesome, thanks for doing this Hal! Do you happen to know if all of these combos work as far as the storyline is concerned? Also, why no love for Kerr's Dark Force Rising, with its score of 9.08?
Yeah, those should all be story compatible.
Kerr's must have slipped through the cracks. I certainly have lots of love for Kerr in my heart.
Feel free to plug in his with any of these run through's Ep3.
SW
Arnie.d V8 -- no DVNR and somehow it reminds me of watching SW years ago
or Lee Thorogood's Technicolor version for an excellent attempted recreation of the original look
ESB
Adywan's big MKV of the '97 SE -- I love the colors and I don't care if they're authentic or not
ROTJ
Moth3r's PAL LD transfer because I like the way it looks somehow. (Spence's edit is entertaining and very promising.)
The Phantom Menace- none
Attack Of The Clones- none
Revenge Of The Sith- none
Star Wars- GOUT V.3 / The Puggo Grande
A New Hope- Revisited
The Empire Strikes Back- GOUT V.3
Return Of The Jedi- GOUT V.3

I didn't know none made edits of these movies. ;-)
After trying a variety of fanedits of the prequels, I have finally come to the conclusion that the best way to watch them is the most recently released official version. Yes they are a crapfest, but at least they suck. The fanedits remove the only reasons to watch them and they just become tedious. If I'm going to watch a train wreck, there better be lots of shrapnel and twisted wreckage... otherwise, what's the point of watching it?
"Close the blast doors!"

^ classic!
My 18yo cousin has never seen any Star Wars, and I've finally convinced him to check them out with me. I think I'll show him these:
I'm not sure what to do about the PT, but he's only 18 so I think I'll show him the theatrical cuts, as Puggo so elegantly put it, shrapnel and all.
