Whats the best way to burn AVIs to DVD?

Pretty self explanatory question.

I've been burning a lot of AVIs to DVD recently, trying to keep up with stateside airings of a certain island based TV show. But sometimes I get terrible audio synch problems. Whilst it does ruin me and the girlfriends viewing pleasure, a) I don't want to have to wait a year for the UK to catch up and b)we're addicted, so whaddya do?

Now that a certain anti-terrorism show has started its 5th season, I could really do with learning how to master this
