I don’t entirely dislike the 2008 Clone Wars series, but I prefer the Dark Horse comics and the Clone Wars Multimedia Project, as they feel more realistic and align more closely with the tone of the Prequel films.
My personal Canon is also designed to remain as consistent as possible with the lore established in the Prequel Trilogy. For this reason, the Chosen One Prophecy must hold true, which means that Palpatine cannot return after being killed by Anakin, and no Sith should exist after Return of the Jedi. To explain Palpatine’s appearance in Dark Empire while keeping this consistency, I interpret it as a rogue clone of Palpatine who believes himself to be the true Palpatine, a clone who inherited his memories but is not the same person who died on the Second Death Star. To maintain this explanation, I exclude Dark Empire II and Empire’s End from my timeline, as they confirm that he is the same Palpatine from Return of the Jedi. Thankfully, the first Dark Empire comic is self-contained and doesn’t require its sequels to work as a standalone story.
Additionally, I omit all Expanded Universe material set after the New Jedi Order series. Later series like Legacy of the Force and Fate of the Jedi introduce numerous Sith Lords — Darth Caedus, the Lost Tribe of the Sith, and Darth Krayt — who exist after the death of the Chosen One, which contradicts the Prophecy. On a personal note, I exclude these post-NJO stories also because I simply don’t enjoy them.
Lastly, I also leave out the SWTOR expansions from my Canon, as I feel they undermined the original game’s story, particularly through Vitiate’s repeated resurrections, which diminished the impact of the narrative.
