The search function really needs an improvement. I wanted to find one that was already made but the last post in this one is over a year old. How do you always find these Moth3r?

Back when people used floppy disks my Dad said that using Memorex disks ware like putting sand paper in your disk drive.

Why all the hate towards Memorex? Not doubting any of it, but their commercials used to be (obviously) pro-Memorex over other brands.

I've never had any problems, but I'm not that picky about what I use. Heck, I'll even use Aviva! :)

Is there some trend of Memorex=Junk? I'm not asking rhetorically or sarcastically, either.

(This is moved over from the Harmy DE thread.)

I don't have any reason to "hate" memorex.  They just have worked lousy compared to the other disks I've tried.  And their lightscribe disks always turn out really faint, and then fade further over the next few months.  The only worse disks I've encountered were some generic CD-Rs that all had dropouts.

As stated in the digitalFAQ link, the brand means almost nothing. For example, I've had Memorex-branded discs made by Ricoh which have been fine, but one box of Memorex discs I had which were made by CMC have now all gone bad.

I don't understand why you would use a commercial as a defense of a brand at the same time you say it's obvious the commercial would be pro- that brand.

Obviously, commercials mean nothing.

Here's what I do:

google search "site:originaltrilogy.com XXX"

where "XXX" is your search term, or if you are lucky, ot.com porn.

No, you are entirely correct. The matter I was trying to get at is specific problems with Memorex, that has obviously (according to red5) been occurring since long before the move to CD and DVD.

I just thought it was interesting, that's all, that any company could get away with saying how superior their product is without any real attempt to back it up, and with clear discontent on the consumer end.

Tayo Yuden DVD5's

Verbatim DVD9's made in Singapore

Verbatim BDr's

ALL other brands SUCK BAD! they do not hold up, and I read some of you say they do(like crappy ass Memorex lol) well let's see in a few more months, or another year even, sorry but that is not a chance I want to take, when I burn something I want to be confident that I will be able to grab that Disc anytime and know for sure it is going to play and rip.

*My opinion only based on all the reading I have done, and because of the TONS of blanks I have burned and shared over the years.

Incidentally, where do people buy their Verbatim blanks?  I've been buying from Amazon, without any way to verify they are the Singapore blanks.  Fortunately those are the ones I've always ended up with, but I'm always slightly apprehensive I'll get the Indonesia ones instead.

Amazon is where I get them to, I think it says somewhere in the description where they are made, supermediastore.com has them as well, and sometimes Best Buy does, but BB is a little more expensive, unless they have them on sale, which is like once a year for only a few minutes LOL, but obviously in Store is a lot better, you can then physically read the package.

I've never found the plant location anywhere in the description...but then again it's always worked out so far...
