What is so wrong about gay romance being in Star Wars?

If done right I can’t see why this would be a bad thing. First of all the OT had incest which is more taboo than homosexuality. Secondly, out of trillions of sentients you’re telling me that everyone is straight? Other than someone being a bigot or not liking it because it wasn’t in the OT I don’t see how this is a bad idea to anyone. Can someone enlighten me because I just don’t see it

…Who is saying there is something wrong with it? I mean personally I don’t think romance should ever be at the center of a Star Wars film, gay or otherwise. Just look at Attack of the Clones. Sure, Empire had Han/Leia but that was basically a side story and it wasn’t handled sappily or anything. Unless they can pull off something like that again (which is doubtful), too much romance of any kind would be a distraction. But I don’t really care if one or more characters is gay. I don’t think it’s necessary to shoehorn gay characters just for the sake of it, and don’t like the idea of allowing topical trends and political correctness to influence the story, but if it fits in with the story and characters organically, then I have zero problem with it at all. And I would think any fans who would are indeed bigoted to at least some degree. Probably the same fans who threw a fit about Finn being black.

For me it’s not homosexuality that’s the issue, it’s unnecessary sexualization. Poe and Finn aren’t romantic in TFA-- they are good friend, Finn saved Poe’s life and Poe did the same for Finn in a different sense. The idea that every close relationship has to be sexual is ridiculous. In this case, it would detract from the real nature of their friendship by boiling it down to sexual attraction.

I’ve seen quite a people say that when the topic of Finn and Poe being together is brought up but it is in no way an epidemic.

The rest of your post I pretty much agree with with.

To be fair a decent amount of relationships in real life start out as friendships and progress from there.

I don’t think that would matter too much as long as they have chemistry and as long as it doesn’t try to overshadow the plot as a whole.

I’ll just say what I always say in regards to homosexual characters in film, TV, books, etc.

Gay characters should be characters first and gays second.

Interspecies relationships don’t seem to be taboo. Maz considers Chewie her boyfriend, and Chewie is practically flirting with the Resistance nurse who’s treating him. So a gay couple wouldn’t be too much of a stretch. At the moment, I don’t think Poe and Finn are more than good friends who bonded quickly in a bad situation.

There are EU characters that might be interpreted as being gay. Senator Greyshade and Master Comm in the old Marvel comics might be considered a couple. The idea of a droid having warm fuzzy feelings for a human was repugnant to stormtroopers anyway. The fan comic Jaxxon’s 11 ran with the domestic partners idea.

Noah and Teek in Battle For Endor could easily be seen as being an old couple. Teek seems to be doing all the housework for that grumpy geezer though.

I’m going to say “wtf” first.

And now, I’ll actually read the thread.

It was very fashionable for about five minutes to kick up a stink about possibly being gay in Star Wars : The Old Republic. This week it’s this thing. https://www.facebook.com/StarWarsDailyNews/posts/504142613124336?comment_id=504989423039655&notif_t=share_reply
I’m so glad we got this out of our system in Babylon 5, Buffy, Doctor Who, almost every DC superhero show on air now, a few Marvel ones but not Star Trek (unless the gay giant jellyfish count) http://originaltrilogy.com/topic/Star-Trek-TNG-on-BluRay-confirmed/id/13387/page/6 or Star Wars.
It might just clear the air if we had loads of female non-Caucasian characters humping each other (off screen…please… someone think of the children) regardless of gender (I’m aware of the paradox). Just to balance out the first few episodes (Beru, Leia and Mon Mothma and transgender Rebel Pilot v a whole galaxy).
Ideally fictional people would be people with variety relative to audience experience.
Caprica had a gay couple and multi-partner marriages and it never got in the way of the plot anything like the fanboys complaining about the low number of splosions.

I think mirror universe Kira on Deep Space 9 was bisexual.

Wouldn’t that technically be an inter-species relationship?
Also Greyshade clearly had a thing for Leia, so at least he’s bisexual, or whatever term you’d use for a man who likes women and robots who seemingly identify as male. I think I’m over-thinking this.

Anyway, I’m perfectly fine with Finn and Poe being gay, I just don’t see it happening. It’s not a chance I see Disney taking with something as profitable as Star Wars.

Alternate universe and kinky evil just underlines the theme.

I don’t have a problem with gay romance being in Star Wars. That said, I have yet to see gay romance in Star Wars.

(Outside of C-3PO and R2-D2, that is.)

That’s what prompted me to make this thread. I’ve seen a couple comments on youtube and seen some shade thrown at the idea on TheForce.net (I think)

Also it takes more than a troll thread to rustle my jimmies.

If you can’t handle a Wookiee/Nurse romance that’s on you.

But the point was that we don’t need this thread.

Linking to and reposting their idiocy here are two different things.

Ok. If you feel so strongly about it close the thread.

Discussion is fine of course. We just don’t need to bring any outside drama from another site directly in here. In the past that has led to unneeded pissing contests with other sites.
