Whoever that was isn’t me. I’m so stuck on New Vegas I don’t have time to play anything else.

I always imagined The Great Deku Tree having a “boomier” voice.

Breath of the Wild looks fantastic even though I don’t like the voice acting in the trailer.

Yup to all.

I haven’t been excited about a console in about 20 years.

I just replayed the original Super Mario Kart for the first time in years and it got me thinking about how there are very rarely any near-impossibly difficult video games released these days. The ones that are definitely aren’t as popular as they were back then either.

Got my preorder in on Amazon for the Switch and BotW before they ran out. I should be wrapping up with Skyrim SE just in time to start Zelda.

It’s a great time to be a gamer.

The Mega Man X games for super Nintendo come to mind. You better spend the time finding all the upgrades or ingest some dangerous illegal substances if you want to finish those. Especially the third one. They sure are a blast though. Exorbitant once you get really good and master the nuances of the dashing and jumping and wall climbing it becomes a very satisfying experience.

Speaking of the third one I recently discovered a romhack that lets you play as zero unlimited like in the PlayStation titles. (Original would only let you use him once a level, couldn’t fight bosses, and if you died once with him he was out.)

The guy that made it is working on implementing this into the second one as well

Well, I got Aliens: Colonial Marines for Christmas in 2015, and played through a lot of the levels, but stopped playing it by early 2016 and never played it again. That is, until recently, when I kind of got into the Alien franchise again. So I finished the level I was stuck on, progressed quickly from there, and what do you know, I’ve finished the game now.

And what a mess it was.

First off, the graphics are awful. I know the game had been in development since 2006, but couldn’t Gearbox have held off releasing it until they had tweaked the graphics so I don’t think I’m playing a game from 2003? The voice acting, likewise, is terrible. The main characters all have obnoxious voices and say terrible lines (I really hated the delivery of the guy playing O’Neil), and Lance Henricksen and Michael Biehn just phone it in. The combat is easy, the Xeno’s go down like fish in a barrel, the PMC’s are only a tiny bit harder, and the boss battle is hilariously anticlimactic.

But my biggest complaint is with the story. Look, I know video game stories never are as good as movies, but this had so many plot holes in conjunction with the films, I can’t fathom why 20th Century Fox declared this abomination “canon.” Right off the bat, the colony, Hadley’s Hope, is all fine and well, as if a nuclear bomb hadn’t hit it 17 weeks prior. Also, all the architecture is out of whack in correspondence to the film. Bishop’s legs are still in the Sulaco hanger bay, despite the fact that they would have been sucked out at the end of Aliens. And then, the sheer number of Xeno’s makes you wonder why exactly Weyland Yutani were so obsessed with getting the Queen chestburster out of Ripley in Alien 3, or why General Perez mentions that Ripley wiped out the species in Alien Resurrection.

SPOILERS for a four year old game that you should never play!

But my biggest problem is that they retconned Hicks’ death from Alien 3. Now, I quite like his anticlimactic end in that film. I think it’s a good introduction of how all the characters die in it. Bringing him back makes no sense, and they don’t even explain it. The DLC released to explain this makes no sense either. It’s like that novel that explains that Ripley actually went on another adventure in between Alien and Aliens, but even that was better explained that this. To top it off he plays a pitifully insignificant role in the game. Just awful.

I’ve vented enough. I think this is my longest post yet. I strongly advise you not to play this and seek out the better Aliens games out there.

Hahaha, yeah that game was a shitshow. I dunno if you followed the development at all, but here’s a comparison of what we were promised at E3 versus what we got. They released a couple multi-gig patches which did help the visuals a bit, but boy did they lie through their teeth when promoting it.

Plus the AI was terrible in the vanilla version. The xenos were useless and annoying, and half the game is basically normal FPS just shooting humanoids anyway. They just completely and utterly failed.

This was the game that finally made me stop preordering things. It is sincerely and without a doubt one of the biggest disappointments of my gaming career.

Yeah, Colonial Marines should have ended with a consumer lawsuit. Now, if you want a proper Alien experience, I can’t recommend highly enough Alien: Isolation. Completely different studio that actually revered the source material and knocked it out of the galaxy with a game that continues on and embodies the spirit of the original film.

Yeah, I’ve played that. Loved what I saw. Better voice acting, graphics, AI and story. Also it was super atmospheric compared to Colonial Marines.

For those who might know their Fallout Lore can anyone tell me if Marko is as demented and layered in the actual lore as he is in the New Vegas Bounties III Quest Mod?

Author

I think that’s what the mod was based off of with the exception of Randall still being alive when NV takes place. Though one could easily assume that Marko has likely done this to many others.

You know what, I think I’ve outgrown video games lately. Obtained every mame set completely to date, and a proper arcade joystick, but I can’t be arsed to setup my desktop to run it. Between my PS3 and PS4 I’ve purchased about 12 games between em this past month, Skyrim and the online only one, COD latest rehash, a few driving games for the PS4.

I just can’t be arsed to install them. Am I going through some sort of midlife crisis?

I went through a serious gaming drought last year though this is mostly due to me having my first real job. Can’t game much when you work a 7-3 and go to bed at 9.

I’m hoping Breath of The Wild inspires me to stay up a little later and eventually brings me back into the gaming fold fully.

Maybe, but more importantly (and maybe just for one post), you’ve outgrown your fake incomprehensible* posts, and that’s a good thing.

*By which I mean you’re being incomprehensible on purpose. They’re truly incomprehensible.

Does anyone here know of a single n64 emulator that isn’t full of weird bugs and graphical glitches?

Project 64 works fine you just have to find the sweet spot of which video plugins to use, and this varies game have to game.

OK, I don’t think I’m tech savvy enough to figure that out.

What game are you trying to play? I could see if I could get it working and zip the folder I have project64 in and send it to you and you can run that.

Yep. Buy an official Nintendo 64 console. Is it true about the fact that Project 64 is full of viruses, spyware, keyloggers and so on after any build after 1.6?
