I feel like there’s a very big tonal difference between Episode 1: Knee-deep in the Dead and Episode 2: The Shores of Hell.
I usually wouldn’t use the term ‘lighthearted’ to describe DOOM, but compared to the dark and foreboding atmosphere of Episode 2, Episode 1 feels almost ‘lighthearted’. I think this tonal difference is reflected in the soundtrack, too. We have the classic At Doom’s Gate, a very energetic theme ripped straight from Metallica’s No Remorse, and it makes the perfect backdrop for high-action demon killing. Sinister is quite the opposite, it’s suspenseful, subdued, and coupled with the visuals of it’s respective level; can make you thoroughly uncomfortable.
Finally finished DOOM 1. Very good game, a true classic that still holds up today. I was glad to see that Episode 3 opened up with a track more reminiscent of the first Episode. E3M1/Untitled is an amazing track, and the metal cover used in Brutal Doom is amazing as well.

On to DOOM 2.
I pretty much agree with your thoughts on DOOM 2016, Haseo. I’m just disappointed in the lack of mod support. The modding scene is probably the best thing about the original DOOM. I’m also not too sure about how I feel about DOOM 2016’s soundtrack. The industrial music style is nice, and it fits DOOM 2016 well, but it’s very subdued. Occasionally I’ll find myself listening to the original DOOM’s soundtrack in the background.
