Loved it. When that game came out, I was still living with a old NES. Seeing that game on demo in stores made me want a SNES so badly. I couldn't believe the detail and the smoothness of the textures. I thought the underwater levels looked downright amazing. Never cared for the sequels in the least, but I still play the first one on my DS from time to time.

I just completed a runthrough of that game a couple of months ago.  I think DKC2 is even better than the original.  It's like the ESB of the trilogy.  DKC3 is okay as well, but it lacks the spark, kinda like ROTJ.

Not that that is going to stop you from dreaming… Only in this case, Gaffer is actually a guy.

The soundtracks are also great, but I think DKC2 wins at that one as well.  Again, DKC3's a bit lacking, but it was scored by someone else.

Let's just agree that David Wise obviously knew what he was doing.

I like the sound track for the original Paper Mario a lot. Especially the TMNT-esque them when Battling the Koopa Brothers.

The Super Metroid soundtrack is still one of my favorites.

Sometimes it can be quite awesome to hear favorite video game themes played by an orchestra.  Like Zelda or Metroid.

I appreciate game music a lot.

There are some game musics just as good as classical orchestras or symphonic film soundtracks.

Metal Gear Solid and Final Fantasy come to mind, as well as Shadow of the Collossus. Mass Effect.

I listen to game soundtracks and anime soundtracks on a regular basis along with film soundtracks/scores.

Other memorable music God of War, Halo, Fable.  Zelda Twilight Princess.

Nintendo's best is from Koji Kondo not sure if i spelled his name right.  Created the Zelda, and mario themes.

The selling of RARE to microsoft by Nintendo was a bad idea imho.

Perfect Dark Prequel was awful.  No more good donkey kong games.  And no remake of goldeneye 64.

“Always loved Vader’s wordless self sacrifice. Another shitty, clueless, revision like Greedo and young Anakin’s ghost. What a fucking shame.” -Simon Pegg.

I am pretty sure Nintendo didn't actually owned Rare. Rae was a third party developer with a good deal of loyalty toward Nintendo. Hands down, the best games of the N64 era game from Rare. Microsoft bought them out, which effectively cut off the relationship with Nintendo. Nintendo had nothing to do with this move. Before the buy out, Rare was big stuff. Now I never even hear that name anymore. Guess they just made a new game in the Banjo series, but that is the first time I heard their name for a long time.

Shadow of the Colossus does have a very impressive score, it really works with the gameplay increasing the overall experience of the game (which is brilliant).

No, Rare was 2nd party, like Retro Studios, I think Nintendo owned about 50% of Rare when they sold them to Microsoft.

And I LOVED Paper Mario: TTYD. Best Game Ever

For me the music cues from the Resident Evil games are the most evocative.

I spent many an hour wandering around those corridors and getting that dread feeling as I opened a door (never has a level loading screen been used to such great effect) so I now have a Pavlovian response when I hear sound files of music.

My ear is also very atuned to the stock sound effects they used and I can spot them in television, radio and film dramas all over the place.
