What exactly was wrong with direct movies from the digital source anyway?

The colors/contrast are much more eye pleasing and the grain makes the low res textures and animation look a tad bit less dated compared to the digital version. It really is night and day in terms of the way the film looks actually on film vs how the movie looks rather bland and washed out on digital. Sid’s room, for example, especially shows the difference of the movie on 35mm because of the rich black shadows which can be seen in 35mm clips from behind the scenes documentaries, which seems to be lost in the digital version which brightens the room up a little too much. In my opinion it’s probably the only Pixar film to look way better on film based on the 35mm trailers that can be found on YouTube.
