Did I ever say that I care, or that I don't want him back, or that I wouldn't make the best of it if he returned? Did I say I wouldn't try to work on our problematic discourse, though I felt the effort was one-sided? I think I said I would continue to try to be the bigger person. That means I would apologize when not receiving apologies, trying to remain civil when he turned the conversation ugly. It's not him personally I did not enjoy, it's how he engaged in debate. It became disrespectful and showed great ignorance. He either deliberately or ignorantly avoided certain topics and repeatedly attacked me in positions I didn't even hold. It took away the fun from our conversations. And through it all, I continued to try to make the best of it, constantly trying to assure him that I wanted to be his friend. He is still welcome to return if he ever wants. But either he will have to choose to improve his debate strategies so they will make more sense and less offense, or else I will have to choose to avoid engaging him in debate altogether.

please reread the part of what I previously that said that I have highlighted. I am really not sure how it is what I say "you have the right" you don't get that I am saying that you have the freedom to say what you want to say. I am a big believer in the 1st amendment. But this does mean that I think all uses of that freedom are morally right. Bob shouldn't be stopped from saying what he wants(unless it is on a forum and the person that runs the forum wishes to stop it). But that doesn't make it right for Bob to say it. Remember the golden rule? Remember the old saying "if you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all"?

This whole weekend, I have been rather sleep deprived. When I am sleep deprived, I tend to get rather depressed and have foul mood. This was very true last night. In fact, while I wouldn't say I was having suicidal thoughts, I did come a little too close to that for comfort. In addition, this thread inadvertantly brought up bad memories for me. Basically I was overeacting and misunderstanding people. I am sorry.
As for Bingo, if it is possible could you or he post exactly what he said? To me, the problem isn't that he holds contaversial opinions, its the way he says those opinions is the problem. Whether or not he returns here is his choice. I have no power to stop him. All I can say that I'd rather he not return.

Seeing as you only post in Off-Topic, that's like saying all Norm ever did at Cheers was pop in to use the restroom and leave.
I don't mean to be insulting or anything, but there is much more to this forum than Off-Topic and it seems strange that one who contributes to the entire forum (like Norm at Cheers) is being chased away by someone who uses such a small part of the site (like the restroom analogy).
It seems to me that there is enough room for us all here and if someone disagrees, then that person should be the one to go.
