I've toyed with this briefly myself...

It's amazing what a little color correction can do to the Official DVD. I'm suprised no one's done this in any of their projects.

I think because the corrections required are not consistent, and vary with each shot, it's a major undertaking to do the whole DVD.

I seem to remember ocpmovie saying he'd brightened up the DVD for his Classic Editions. Also, tellan has done extensive colour correction for his forthcoming Lancer project, taking inspiration from the examples on mverta's site.

I was implying that resetting the black and white points and toning down the overall blueish tint would be a quick and easy general CC job. But yes, a shot by shot correction on top of that would be even better.

I saw some screen comparison shots of the premier digital special edition broadcast and the 2004 dvd's. It's unbelievable how bad some of the dvd shots are. The site was dvdbeaver which compares high quality screenshots of various region and dvd editions. It's a pretty cool site. Scroll down to star wars in the link and you'll find them for all three films.
