The most godawful sequel?

Author
Time

NOTE: I'm extending this topic to include prequels, midquels, interquels, and remakes.

Now, I know a lot of you are going to jump in immediately and nominate the PT, but think about it for a moment. Nostalgia and the superior quality of the OT aside, are they honestly the ABSOLUTE WORST continuations of a series you've ever seen? I thought not. My personal picks are:

Jaws: The Revenge [The sheer technical ineptitude is unforgivable]

Halloween 2007 [Loaded with totally unnecessary foul language and tit shots. Slashers are about BLOOD!]

Hellraiser: Hellseeker [Would have been excellent if it had made any sense whatsoever]

Highlander II: The Quickening [Do you honestly need an explanation?]

The Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Next Generation [MY GOD! The horror... the absolute lack of horror!]

AVP: Requiem [It's worse than the first one. IT'S WORSE THAN THE FIRST ONE!!!!]

Day of the Dead 2: Contagium [Contagium isn't even a word. It's that bad.]

Rasen [a follow-up to something like Ringu should NEVER be this dull]

Well, those are the only ones I can think up off the top of my head.

All the prequels and special editions, if you consider them different movies, I do.

Yeah what eveyone else said, they beat me to the punch

Oh, don't forget Men in Black 2, that's a real stinker, though I only saw like 20 minuets of it on TV

Charlies Angels 2, though the first one was bad, this was a train wreck

I didn't even see these but I'm sure the Fantastic 4 movies suck

All the Hulk movies

Oh and The Dark Knight ;-)

Any straight-to-video sequel by Disney cashing in on their classics. Lady and the Tramp, 101 Dalmations, Little Mermaid, Bambi, Cinderella - I mean, how the hell can you justify a sequel to Cinderella?

In most of the entries on your list, the originals weren't even that good to begin with (Species, Bad Boys, etc. ) but these two stuck out to me. To me, Terminator 2 improved on the original (practically a b-movie that somehow got popular) in pretty much every aspect.

As far as Evil Dead goes, the first one was pretty tongue-in-cheek with its approach to horror anyway, and the second one stuck some comedy in it without losing all of the horror (unlike Army of Darkness, where they just went all-out comedy). I'd actually go so far as to say that Evil Dead 2 is my favorite horror movie of all time (and I've seen quite a few).

Crap sequels and the like I can think of include:

Poltergeist II and III-unnecessary stupid rubbish

Jaws III and IV-same as above

Batman Forever + Batman and Robin-cartoony garbage

Every Harry Potter film after #2-they butchered their books unlike the first two

Halloween 3-6 & 8-just did not work for the series to me, especially #8 ugh! I forgot to mention the remake sucked too

Pirates of the Carribean 2 and 3-just were not entertaining like the first, which rocked

The Lion King 1/2-tried to reduce the original to comedy crap

Balto 2 & 3-just bad disney ripoffs

The Rage: Carrie 2-utterly stupid

All Planet of the Apes sequels and remake-they all were a slap in the face of the original to me

The Secret of NIMH 2-no need to elaborate, bottom of the barrel schlock

Dragonheart 2-what the above said

The Hitcher sequel and remake-uneeded trash

Salem's Lot 2004 remake-disgrace to the book and the Tobe Hooper 1979 original

X Men 3-very very very pathetic, compared to the first two

Firestarter 2-no words here

T3 and beyond-another unnecessary crappy cash-in

Tremors 3-the worst film I have ever seen

And these are only a few I know...

This is just my opinionated list and you do not have to agree with it.

Oh shoot, I'm sorry people, I did not know I did that. I apologize for the triple post. It was an accident, totally unintentional. I guess when I went back to edit I messed up and did it the wrong way, by not using the edit feature. I appologize in advance for the bad inconveinience and I'll delete the repeats.

I would have to agree that the recent Disney sequels are by far the worst sequels ever made to classic movies.  Just a quick cash-in.

Episode II: Shroud of the Dark Side

Batman Forever and Batman and Robin were probably the worst sequels I can think of.

Take your mouth of Lucas' balls for five minutes and use your head.  The prequels are the quinessential bad sequels.  They are hilariously terrible and only a really really gay fanboy still maintains that they are watchable.  Meesah hate to burst your faggy bubble.

Now the prequels are not like "The Worst Movies Ever Made" but they are poorly made and rank at like 3/10-5/10 in my rating scale while ANH and ESB are 10/10 and ROTJ is 9/10.

Whoever said Termainator 2 is a bad sequel, I have to strongly disagree. Terminator 2 was a landmark in cinema.

I did it is listed as Indiana Jones IV i did not even bother naming the pathetic title.

I know the Indiana Jones films really don't have episode numbers like Star Wars.  It was called Indy IV in pre production just Like Last Crusade was called Indiana Jones III before release and Temple was known as Raiders II before it got a title.

Clone Wars 2008 theatrical is also on my list as well.

There are no Thx 1138 2, Howard the Duck 2, Radioland Murders 2, Tucker the man and his dream part 2, or willow 2 or they would probably be on the list as well as more american graffiti.

I guess you could add the Land Before time sequels since Lucas had a uncredited role in them as well as the first film.

Just barely noticed your post bkev. I was a big fan of the first Dark Forces, it was back in the dawn of the first person shooter, of which I am now a big fan. DF was like Doom, only much better refined and improved, it had a cool story, and took you through places you only ever dreamed of going in the SW universe.

It was also cool because you played as someone nobody knew, rather than one of the main characters. You were just some guy out in the SW universe trying to get by. Nobody special.

In Jedi Knight, which in its own right was a very good game for its time, though a bit dated today, decided it needed to take Kyle's story and turn him into something more important, a Jedi. He discovers his dead father's lightsaber, and decides to learn the ways of the force to become a Jedi like his father before him and seek vengeance against the Sith Lord who killed him.
Sound familiar? It is almost like the creators though man, how cool would it be if Luke was the main character instead of this mercenary guy? So they made the mercenary into a Luke rip off. I would have liked Dark Forces to have remained a first person shooter with a cool story line following an average citizen with a blaster living under the of the Galactic Empire. Jedi Knight could have been a really cool seperate game with a fresh story of its own, but instead I feel it took something with great potential and brought it down a few notches.

Also it had really cheesy live action scenes that make the prequels feel like Shakespeare.
