The all-purpose ART thread! — Page 8

Hmm, I notice that the drawings I posted earlier aren’t showing up, but the collages are. That’s damn weird.

Ah, well, anyway … new art!

Needless to say, while watching Babylon 5, Delenn became my favourite character on the show. As everyone knows, when I become absolutely fascinated by a woman – real or fictional – I feel compelled to draw at least one picture of her to the best of my ability.

This is based on a Season 2 photo of Delenn, but as I prefer the more glamourous makeup she sported in Season 1 (the lipstick and such, not the enlarged bald cranium and bone crest), I gave her some eye shadow and deep red-purple lips to enhance the underlying sexiness that was largely lost in Season 2+.

This is a crude film poster for an alternate Nightmare on Elm Street sequel I plan on writing whenever I get around to it.

I began working on the drawing months ago, when I was still heavily enamored with Heather Langenkamp, but only finished it recently. As such it’s the last picture I have drawn of her, and as I’m no longer on my “Heather kick”, it’s likely the last picture I’ll draw of her for the forseeable future.

I took this photo last fall and uploaded it to Flickr yesterday evening:

Maple Leaves/Des feuilles d'érable

I'm pretty happy with the way it turned out. It was a hit on Flickr, too. It has already beaten out every other photo I have on Flickr in terms of favourites and views, and is the first of all my pictures to make it to 100 favourites (within 24 hours too).

Would you mind if I used it as the disc art for my next album?  (it's going to be filled with lighter, prettier, more melodic songs than my usual stuff so I feel like it fits perfectly)

With credit of course.

That's the highest praise I can get, so of course I don't mind. :)

 wow it's so RED!

Since I'm colorblind, I can't imagine how much more saturated this must look to people with normal color vision.

For a couple years now, I’ve had an image of the perfect Superman costume in my head; this is my first semi-successful attempt at capturing it in a drawing:

Last Son of Krypton/Man of Steel/Man of Tomorrow by DuracellEnergizer

It’s meant to be mainly a fusion of the Fleischer/DCAU Superman costumes, along with a few personal touches thrown in there for good measure. Though it can’t be seen, I picture there being a yellow-and-black “S” on the back of his cape.

Here’s also my take on his cousin, Kara AKA Supergirl:

And here’s a version of the image above reworked into a drawing of Power Girl, Supergirl’s Earth-2 counterpart:

Lately, I’ve been experimenting with taking some of the less satisfactory collages I’ve made over the years and altering them digitally to make them look more psychedelic/pop arty.

Here’s some of the more interesting ones I’ve made so far:

And to tie into my last post, here’s another drawing I’ve made of Superman, coloured & uncoloured versions:

I’ve decided to stop colouring these type of drawings with felt pens. Not only does the ink often overwhelm the linework (especially blue ink), but it looks really ugly after its been scanned to the computer. I get far better results with pencil crayon.

I’m pleased with the job I did on the hand and the Kirby Krackle around it, but I’m not at all pleased with the face behind it; I could’ve – and I should’ve – done more work on it.

You got some pretty great skills DE!

Don’t do drugs, unless you’re with me.

If only I could take art lessons and develop my skills beyond where they are.

Maybe check out classes at your local community college?

Practice is really what matters though. Also lots of art lessons on the internet!

Does nothing to help.

He’s gettin’ it!

I now try to put in a bunch of qualifiers to my posts to be absolutely sure that nobody could reasonably misunderstand them.

Should have done that with this one.
