The Shepherd King (House of David) (Part One COMPLETE, Part Two in Progress)

This project is a theatrical cut of Amazon’s “House of David,” the goal of which is to repackage the show into cohesive, cinema style experiences.

This show is, in my opinion, the best biblical television to date. It is faithful to source material, while also succeeding with impressive creative liberties. It tells the story of King David’s origin, the house of Saul, his predecessor, and the early rise of his legacy.

My aim was to streamline the seasons, maintaining all of the best and most important story lines.

The project is nearly complete, and I have a work print option available upon request.

Part Two is in progress!

Alright. This project is finally falling together. Season 2 did exactly what I was hoping for – giving us a battle that we could end the first film with.

Currently, I’m going with the title “The Shepherd King”. Part 1’s first edition is complete. I would love for some people to give it a watch and offer some edits and suggestions.

Part One (of three) of The Shepherd King is in work print. Final run time is 3.5 hours with an appropriately placed intermission halfway through.

This movie introduces us to the origins of the two Kings, Saul and David, setting the stage for David’s rise, ending with the fall of Goliath and the subsequent battle with the philistines.

First, I want to thank the editor for sharing this. I saw the first work print movie, and it was very well done. I never watched the show, which makes this my first time going through this. The editor really did a very nice job with this.

While watching this, I never felt like anything was missing. The narrative was clear and the pacing of the movie felt natural - not too slow and not too fast. I never felt that I was watching an unnecessary side quest irrelevant to the main plot threads. Everything included was essential for a cohesive narrative. Even the intermission point was relatively well placed to give the audience a nice break point if you were looking to break up watching this.

It is hard for me to say if any changes are really necessary. I know the show itself was well-reviewed. There likely is not much to cut anyway. I probably should watch the show itself to give better feedback for potential changes.

One thing I can suggest is to make your own custom fan edit introduction. Something memorable, and dare I say biblical. It could be anything you imagine. An example is posted in the first few seconds in the video below.

If anybody comes across this, I would strongly recommend watching this edit. I think this edit could draw more interest if posted in other forums such as the fan edits reddit forum that is the most popular for spreading fan edits.
