Kenobi: Hunt for the Jedi (IN PROGRESS) - Obi-Wan Kenobi Mini Series Edit

Hello Everyone!

I am MK_9000 Fan Editor (don’t worry I am not trying to take Hal 9000’s name, I thought about it before I figured out about him.)

This is a page for my very first fan edit! I am attempting a film cut of Obi-Wan Kenobi calld KENOBI: HUNT FOR THE JEDI.

I wanted this to be a little different from most film cuts, where a focus way more on Obi-wan and Anakin’s relationship. I’m hoping to incorporate a lot more flash back from Obi-Wan’s perspective. Like whenever some character says something that mirrors something in the PT, there’s a faded audio flash back or even video flash back. For example, his dream on Tatooine (nightmare scene) is being edited currently, and I thought of making it focus much more on Anakin. The dream flashes back from black to dueling scenes. Obi-wan’s reveal is a black screen, with a distorted audio clip of Anakin yelling I HATE YOU and then he wakes up. I was also going to attempt to do my own version of PixelJoker95’s thunderstorm at the back of the final Obi-wan v Darth Vader duel. It definitely won’t be the same quality, but I hope it will work. This is more of a CONCEPT edit. I do not have the money or equipment to make a fully professionally looking edit, but it will be entertaining nonetheless. I am basing plot line off of Andreas, Patterson, and Spence and Madsilver cuts of the series. Here are some changes I’m hoping to make:

  • Re arrange scenes to make them more impactful
  • Remove cheesy dialogue
  • Add some VFX storms to the Darth Vader/Obi-wan duel
  • Add much more flashbacks
  • Shorten (but not fully cut) the Leia Chase scene (i really think removing it compeletely throws the paceoff way too much)
  • Fix pacing
  • and more that is still TBD.

Any suggestions are welcome, as I’m currently only 20 Minutes into a hopefully 2 hr to 2.5 hr feature cut.

No shade your way, but probably because there are already so many fan edits of Kenobi, plus everyone is anticipating pixeljoker95’s edit.

Lol, yeah I guess, I’m also very new at all this.

That’s ok! We all start somewhere. If you want to generate some conversation with your ideas and edits, it helps to put some time into writing out the specific changes you’re going to make. Rather than “rearrange some scene”, write out the exact plan and why you think that will help. Or propose some ideas, post some clips, and ask for feedback 😃 Hope you have fun too!

My favorite edit of Obi-Wan so far is the Pentex Edit, but I’d be curious to check out your cut. I like the idea of keeping a small portion of the Leai chase scene. I made a personal edit of that chase scene myself and I thought it worked fairly when it was cut it in half or so:

Hey I just took a look at it. Great Job, I like it way better than the edits where it’s totally cut out and the OG. With your permission (credit will be given), I’d love it if i can Feature this clip for the edit (I might redo a bit of the audio, it’s a bit choppy.) The pacing is pretty good too. Thanks for sharing.

Opening Crawl:

What do you all think of this opening crawl text?

"Ten years have passed since OBI-WAN left ANAKIN burning in the fires of MUSTAFAR, Imperial INQUISITORS of the GALACTIC EMPIRE scour every planet and every system in search of the long-lost JEDI, the legend known as KENOBI.

KENOBI, convinced his rebellious apprentice is long gone, remains hidden in the deserts of TATOOINE, keeping an eye on the young LUKE SKYWALKER from a distance, as to him, it is his responsibility.

In anguish at the loss of ANAKIN, his brother and friend, KENOBI forsakes the JEDI WAY, undercover as a simple worker on TATOOINE. INQUISITORS work tirelessly in search of him…"

Glad you liked edit. You are certainly welcome to use it and fix it up. It was a quick proof of concept I made three years ago and didn’t smooth out the audio at all.

And if that ever comes out, so we may as well keep going.

So… I’ve been working on the Duel scene from episode 6. I’ve been trying to edit the background frame by frame to incorporate a really good looking thunderstorm in the background of this scene. Here is a preview of my favorite frame that I have done so far:

OBI WAN KENOBI SERIES:

HUNT FOR THE JEDI:

Please tell me your thoughts!
(I’ll be honest i dont love the light saber, but ill edit later to be properly colored)

^ Much better than the dull and somewhat lifeless-looking volume plates/background they often chose to run with.

Nice work, Mk_9000 👍.

Plus, that is one hell of a poster for your project - you have me intrigued for your edit.

I am attempting removing specific items from a scene. Specifically the scene with the Jawa inside Obi-wan Kenobi’s cave. I wanted the clip to be extended, but needed to remove the Jawa’s Cart entering the frame.

SNEAK PEEK:

The gif quality is really bad, sorry!

EDIT:

Fixed the Gif quality

Thoughts?

The gif is very choppy for me - though that looks to be some quality work in removing the Jawa’s cart from the scene.

The gif has Obi Wan and the whole landscape outside shifting, while the inside of the cave stays static.
I assume there is just a png of the inside with a transparent cutout on the top layer.

It is, in the original clip, the camera pans aside and I didnt notice until yesterday. I ended up adding slight key frame to the png image to match the panning of the frame.
