So I was watching TLJ again and in the scene where Kylo almost shoots Leia, there’s this fade transition between their faces of them “communicating” through the force (its also in ESB when Vader talks to Luke at the end of the film). I thought it could maybe work when Ben’s surrounded by the Knights of Ren and communes with Rey, I made a quick really rough test with footage downloaded from youtube.

Was literally just watching that scene. Which transition did you use? I’m trying to do a similar blend but it needs too many frames for it to work. 😕

its really tough to get right, but pretty much what I did was take the last frame of each shot and stretch it out to 3 frames with a cross-dissolve transition, also I kinda wanted to match up the eyes so i did some scaling and moving around of the frame

Glad to help, also with the last fade of the scene I actually took the frames from 2 frames before the cut and 2 after just cause the lightning lined up with it nicely

Magnificent work, jonh! I like Obi-Wan’s new footage, has a greater quality to it, but I think the reason he looks off is because of the way he´s framed: all the other Jedi are at the center of the shot.
I had never thought about the fading transition, looks fantastic! It’s a minor thing but it really should be implemented.
I would prefer to keep the Rey-Ben saber pass not to have the cross fade because it telegraphs something it might telegraph too strongly what’s going on. I think the moment invites the viewer to be a little unsure if they’re communicating at first.
I could imagine having two or three of these as Leia reaches out to Ben, though. Nice idea!

Yeah, I was hoping I could take on some of that criticism I was given when I created that last clip and try to make a new mix out of it… I was just worried that I was missing out on a lot more new voices that people had sent! 😄
Gotcha. Axlanian is putting one together already, and I’m planning to just add any additional submissions myself, even if they have to be a little quieter maybe. If you’d like to try that’d be fine, but just know he’s also already been getting that going.
Also the fade cuts were never used for Rey and Kylo’s connection. Which is supposed to be something different.
