The novelization had his last line be in Rey’s head after he dies: “Noones ever really gone.” Not only is it a nice callback to Luke, but it also explains why Rey suddenly looks happy as she’s flying away in her X-wing.

Too bad he never said that anywhere.

It would be pretty easy to include “Rey, you’re not alone. You’ve become what you were meant to be.” using quotes from the hand touch and throne room scenes in TLJ.

Edit: Although that quote may be better to include in the Jedi voices section.

Tiny nitpick, but do we need the alien to say “Skywalker” three times, or even twice? The second time it says Skywalker, it sounded to me a bit like it’s just reusing the same audio as the first time he says it, maybe it’s just because he pauses after the word both times. Maybe I’m being silly, but I’m just thinking of what the alien actor’s “translated script” could have been and wondering how the same word is used so often in just one or two sentences. Maybe replace one with “Jedi?”

On that note, I also wonder if the voice actor (I forget who exactly, my apologies) couldn’t ham it up just a little bit with their cadence and tone to better match what’s happening on screen in the final cut. Maybe a quick dramatic pause before Luke deflects the blast, then a little flair and excitement in their voice when it happens. Like, in a way the kids could be laughing at how he’s telling the story, and not just at the visual of the puppets.

Thanks for the feedback, Neerb! The “Skywalker” line readings are all definitely unique, not duplicated. I could swap out one of them with a more distinct reading, Creation gave me plenty of inflections to choose from!

I threw in a third “Skywalker” with the intention of making who/what this puppet show is about as clear as possible for your hypothetical first-time viewer. For example, Nev mentioned that his girlfriend didn’t catch what was happening until one or two more rewatches, but that was also with the one-shot version of the scene, rather than the two-shot version. I definitely think we should hear him say Skywalker at least twice, but maybe three is pushing it a little. Having him say “Jedi” would definitely serve the same purpose I was after, so that’s a great idea Neerb!

Creation originally recorded his really awesome alien gibberish before I had anything recorded for the puppet show, so he was just going off how the idea had been described. We were already planning to do this, but now that we have the visuals and the pacing of the scene down, I think Faraday might write new dialogue in a different language that Creation can record. Now that he can see what he is talking about, it could help him add a little more flair to the performance like you described.

Yeah I’ll be recording new lines once we work it out. I will do several different versions with different inflections so we have alot to choose from. Looking forward to doing it. The puppet show is now my favourite part of the movie lmao

  • i will say though, the way the first Skywalker was edited to fit when Rey looks over is brilliant in the new cut.

For the puppet show, would adding in some other proper names help clarify things too? “Skywalker,” “Crait,” “First Order”…

And for a Ben final line…I was thinking that too, a while back. I think there’s a danger of adding something that’s really lame and cheesy though. Like, “No one’s ever really gone,” after the Jedi have already appeared to her…feels kinda lame to me. (You’re too late to the party, Ben! Everyone else has already gone home, BEN!)

If we added something else, I would say to keep it simple. “I’m sorry” or “Rey, no…” as he’s going over to her body. Or just a quiet “Thank you” before he dies. Oh! Or what if he calls out to her right before she sees him and gives him the lightsaber? (“Rey…”) Not super deep, perhaps; but conceptually, I think it would flow well.

Or scream “NOOOOOOOO” as he falls into the Infinity Pit.

Now we’re talkin’.

Reuse Palpatine’s scream like they did in Empire '97

Hal, did you already add your Wilhelm Scream into the film somewhere? Because otherwise…

I feel like this is the one that would work best. Though I’m sure someone could easily find some Sad Adam Driver Noises in Marriage Story if they wanted to add that to the bit where they take turns dying.

Just the start of it and it cuts out quickly as the shot changes. It’s an Easter egg. Y’know, for the fans!

hahahaha

I like this idea. Ben’s last words could be something similar to Obi Wan’s - ‘Remember, the force will be with you. Always.’

It’d be a nice call back not only to his name sake but to the movie it all started with.

Dude, I listened/watched hours of interviews and audio clips just to find Adam do the right exhale, I ended up using this https://youtu.be/54WFSXE1DyE that was a painful week.

Not to change topics but what is the status on the crackling saber effect for V2?

After being beaten and battered by prequel hate, I promise not to be that to the next generation.

In the interest of shuffling this thing a little closer to completion, let me regather some thoughts and ideas that are unresolved.

  • Has the “you probably don’t recognize me because of the red eyes” 3PO scene redub been pursued past hashing out potential lines? That little cluster of related changes seems to hinge on whether that 30 seconds gets nailed or not. (Fortunately, those small handful of changes stand or fall together and the rest of the R&D has basically been done by this point so we have both options.)

  • Who can remove the milky eyes from that one super short shot of Rey on the Sith throne from the vision? We also talked about adding classic Sith eyes when she appears on the DSII, although I don’t think it’s necessary and would be happy with just axing the milky eyes. (“Oh, no, she’s going to turn 140 like her grandpa or something!”)

  • Is ‘Captain’ Hux being worked on? Is it just the one line from Kylo that would need to be changed?

  • Sherlockpotter, is the “I am a Jedi” line about where you feel totally happy with it? Please send it to me once it is, preferably as a single-channel so I can mix it in.

  • Is the “that’s not even a language” scene finished, or still in progress? Axlanian, please sent me what you end up being happy with and I’ll nail it down.

  • Anyone up for carving out a replacement for the Vader Castle shot on Mustafar using the ‘Biomes’ short? While the existing one is still very good in my book, I think about anything anyone can do with that material will be at least as good. Could be as simple as cloning one of the TIE fighters to make it three and use that portion of the shot.

Also, sherlockpotter, did you stitch the very end of the “I am all the Sith” shot onto the end of “no match for the power in me”? If so, bravo, because I can’t tell unless I’m reverse engineering it. lol

I will say I was trying briefly to recreate whatever he did and it was not obvious (need to check again).

Here is how I feel, Hal. I think Rey’s milky eyes should be replaced with Sith eyes in that one brief shot. Also, when she shows her sharp teeth, I think the Sith eyes should flash up at that moment.

Also, if you ever get the chance to talk to jonh again, could you ask him to provide this sequence to put into the fan edit clip resource folder on Drive?

Also, I also feel like the others that we should give Ben a line or two more. Just to look through Adam Driver’s filmography.

I’m suddenly remembering the scene in RotJ where a character speaking an alien language recounts the story of the previous movie to a cute group of childlike aliens.

This new puppet show is just making ST even more of an OT remake/knockoff lol. I think JJ would be proud we’re advancing his vision for the story.
