It’s just one shot that can be cropped? Yeah, that might be fine, then.

Correct, the lightsaber does not appear in her conversation with Leia right after.

I find it funny how Merry of the Resistance was delegated as the “try to explain Palpatine’s return in as many different ways as possible” character. It’s hilarious.

He’s basically the audience trying to “rationalize” how Palpatine came back via a verbal bullet point of possibilities.

So in some ways, he breaks the forth wall maybe? Lol.

That’s precisely why this particular line should be removed. We have honed in on the whole cloning thing so we needn’t muddy things up any further.

I don’t really see how the line is incongruous with this version of the story.

I know I’ve made some very poor decisions recently.

Let me put it this way: when he says that there “were always whispers” that he was searching for ways to live forever, that retcons the original trilogy. In the OT, nearly all of the galaxy thought Palpatine was a normal dude that got disfigured by the Jedi. And Palpatine would have only ever shared his cloning plans with his Sith loyalists on Exegol. So there is no reason why there would be rumors around the known galaxy of that type.

That said, I think the most important thing here is removing the lightsaber appearing in that shot. Do you believe that is possible?

Totally I understand. His cut of not worked really well to fix it but I understand wanting the structure to remain the same.

Thought I’d bring it up here incase anyone wants to give it a shot and fix it with vfx

Who ever said it would have to involve VFX? I just removed the portion of the shot where the lightsaber is visible.

https://youtu.be/FSPREteSKcU

Personally I find this very abrupt and don’t think it works.

Also it’s strange how we hear Merry quietly say in the background of that shot, “There were always whispers of his hunger to cheat death.” Like, what? Why would the galaxy at large ever have reason to believe that? Most of them didn’t even know he was a Sith in the OT.

That’s never explicit in the OT.

Author
Time

Also, it’s just a continuity error. Not worth messing up a scene to fix.

Author

It is actually explicit in the OT:

“You, my friend, are all that’s left of their religion.” Sure, he’s talking about the Jedi there, but Vader is a Sith and he still talks about him in that way. He’s basically saying he’s the last force user. And Tarkin is a high-ranking individual in the Empire!

I’ve fixed the audio up a bit: https://youtu.be/vDvO06C6gxk

It’s funny that you call this change abrupt because you could say that about just about everything in this movie. You’re right to a certain extent though, I would prefer to remove her grabbing the book entirely. I’m just not skilled enough to do that unless somebody has some basic footage of the crowd I could slot in there for the beginning of Poe’s line to play first.

I’ll see about it but I agree in principle with Dominic that I don’t want to cause any harm for the sake of addressing what to me is a non-issue.

I know I’ve made some very poor decisions recently.

Not sure if this is something to be discussed in this thread, but has anyone found a good way to remove Rey healing the worm? I think it works better for the story if the only “force healing” is a result of the Dyad between Rey and Ben.

For the sake of the whole saga, it just opens up WAY too many questions. Maybe it can be adjusted for for the worm creature to be scared of her darkness or something along those lines.

Not sure if that is worth pursuing due to the scene of The Child in The Mandalorian.

EDIT: Rather than make a new comment, I’ll address one of the best head canon answers as to why force healing isn’t an issue. The Jedi at the time of the prequels clearly believe that if someone is about to die, then that is the will of the Force. Therefore, they would view the ability of Force Healing as an abomination (even though it is light side in nature). My personal belief is that they withheld knowledge of that ability from everyone except Jedi masters who had access to restricted knowledge if they wanted to. Thus another reason why Anakin was pissed about not becoming a master. Sorry about the rant.

Yeah, I don’t plan to change that. That’d be better for the main TROS thread.

THat, or they had to do it in Mandolorian to help “justify it” in this movie since it pretty much … invalidates the plot in ROTS. Lol.

Anyway … I think the conversation about the lightsaber disappearing and reappearing error and Merry’s quote would be neat to fix if it doesn’t cause any visual or timing issues.

Not to get too off-topic and talk about another fan edit in this thread but I know Krausfadr did exactly this in his edit of TROS.

I mean, for me it actually kinda enhances the plot of ROTS under the thinking I shared. If Anakin knew that Yoda had knowledge about an ability which could save his wife but instead he told him to rejoice the death of those around him, I would be super angry. Maybe not go on a murder spree, but definitely extremely angry at the Jedi.

And Anakin certainly had his suspicions (“I know there are things about the Force that they are not telling me”). Even the film suggests that by becoming a master he would have access to those things. It’s actually in the novel as well.

Shoot, I’m dragging us further away from the topic again. Sorry.

So how’s the puppet work going? MR better not be giving excuses like “sleep” and “Sanity”

This is 100% more abrupt than anything in the movie. You’re right that removing it would work better but it’d still hurt the scene.

I can’t give those excuses because I have neither! haha, the puppet show is out of my hands now. It’s down to whoever is making the puppets 😉

I’ve just laid up the Ahch-To night shots but don’t have the energy to sort the audio. Thankfully the construction outside my house finished today so I’ll hopefully get sleep and sanity back soon 😄

I should be able to do audio for that moment pretty easily. Haven’t been able to sit down at my computer the last few days but I’ll work on it when I can!

I know I’ve made some very poor decisions recently.

Hahah fair enough MR.

Have fun with that construction stuff.

Appreciate all the hard work ya’ll are doing. One day you’ll sit at your computer Hal to look at it. Lol.

I’ve gotten the materials to make the puppets, but I honestly kind of wanted to see what snooker comes up with first!

Beats kneeling at my computer which I literally did for a few weeks. But the only feasibly chance most of the time to sit and work is when everyone else is asleep.

Nope. I think I explained myself why it is in fact explicit. I clarified that “religion” is in reference to the ability of using the Force, not the misconception that he meant the Jedi.

There are other canon sources which prove my point. In the novel Tarkin, he has a suspicion that Palpy and Vader are Sith Lords, but he doesn’t know for certain nor does he want to ask any questions regarding it. In the novel Lords of the Sith, Palpatine tells Vader that he “can’t be seen using the Force” to get them out of a sticky situation.

Of course, you probably don’t care about what canon says. I’m just trying to point out to you that Tarkin’s line can easily be interpreted that way, and is in fact interpreted that way by canon.

In conclusion, I would highly advise removing Merry’s line which suggests that everyone knew about Palpatine’s Sithiness in the OT, but it’s ultimately Hal’s decision.

Author
Time

There’s a difference between the words “explicit” and “implicit.” I’ll leave it at that.

Author
Time

Yeah, but I’m not the one who brought that word into the conversation to begin with.

The most important factors should be that it is the canon answer and also makes the most sense (imo) given the content in the previous films of the saga.

I’m going to take a look at the audio in that scene to see if Merry’s background speech could be removed without deleting the actual visuals.

oooh, that would be nice.

Or you can include a line that he likes DeadPool who breaks the 4th wall.

Am I right?

I’ll see myself out.

Author

Yeah, it is true that in cannon it is not at all widely known that palpatine is a sith. I would personally prefer removing the line so it connected better with the OT and cannon.
