But your point is proven wrong if you look at the whole sentence: “We’ll always be with you, but this is your fight.” As in, she has to initiate the fight but they will help her when she does.

“but this is your fight” is not included in the video as I realized it is a contradiction for this edit. “We’ll always be with you.” works much better for foreshadowing than “A thousand generations live in you now, but this is your fight.” If it is Rey’s fight then why do ALL the Jedi show up at the end in spirit?

I agree it works better than a thousand generations. But I’ve already argued my point for keeping “but this is your fight” so I’ll shut up now.

No offense, Sherlock, but I completely dislike using that song there. It just makes me think of the people rising up montage and removes all of my emotional attachment to the current scene.

No offense taken; but I am confused why the music would remind you of that scene, considering an entirely different musical cue is used there…

And wait, even if it does remind you of that, doesn’t that connection make more sense than bringing up Yoda?? Your argument is basically, “Why would we forge a connection to something relevant to the film, when we already have a connection to something irrelevant to the film?”

I think the Rise of Skywalker Theme is only used three times in the original cut - when the trio sets out for Pasaana, at the beginning of the Lift X-Wing scene (before it drops out - my goal was to continue that through), and during the end reunion. When you look at the thematic tissue connecting those scenes, it seems like a natural fit to me to continue playing The Rise of Skywalker against the X-Wing.

DZ, I like it, but I still think the “thousand generations” should be mentioned for what they bring to the finale.

I think the best version of the scene would be:

“A thousand generations live in you now, but this is your fight.” “How do I get there?” “You have everything you need.”

In other words, cutting the “Take both sabers” line.

I’m just thinking it would have been insane if the ghosts were in the theatrical cut without the foreshadowing. It would have been mindblowing in the theater. I guess my mindset is, “let that be a surprise for the audience without hinting about it”. Plus, there is already a small hint of it at the beginning of the film.

Awwwww! I wish I had my computers. Basically, I think it would work by taking out the “you’ll take both Saber to Exagol” and replace it with “We’ll always be with you”. Then move the “but this is your fight” after that line. It’ll take some work shifting the clip arrangement but that’ll work in many ways.

I agree with this. Just dislike how it is currently implemented on Hal’s vote so I said “no”.

I’ll admit, I agree with Movies Remastered. I would have removed the line, “You’ll take both sabers to Exegol.” I think Rey should make the decision that Luke offers, that being Leia’s saber.

Really against the idea of changing the music during Luke’s X-Wing lift, I think the moment is perfect the way it is.

I think I agree with this the most (though admittedly, a lot of the ideas and mockups do work for me).

“We’ll always be with you” feels like it matches well with Rey’s “Be with me” lines at the beginning and end, which helps with foreshadowing (although I realize some people think that may not be a good thing to keep the surprise).

“A thousand generations live in you” works for me too (metaphorically, the way RL explained is how I always took it).

However, I agree “this is your fight” doesn’t feel right. Not just because of the Jedi helping her later, but because it feels forced. Luke is basically saying that she has to go because she’s the only Jedi left, not for any personal reasons that make it her fight. Which is true, unfortunately. In ROTJ, Luke’s confronting Vader was deeply personal, and the stakes for the galaxy and for Luke himself were so intertwined. That kind of tension is there in the Rey and Kylo fight in TROS, but Palpatine really just needs to be stopped because he’s going to destroy the universe. There’s nothing really personal for Rey to deal with in Palpatine, despite the filmmakers efforts to make it so. “This is your fight” draws attention to that failure and just kind of highlights a weakness of the film, instead of smoothing past it.

I never really understood force ghosts. The line “strike me down and I will be more powerful…” doesn’t really become anything. Force ghosts don’t really do much other than mentor. Yoda is the only one who interacts with the real world by burning the tree. Luke can’t even remove Leia’s Saber from the wall.

I feel the “this is your fight” is a line to give Rey a realisation that she’s the only one with enough power in the real world “the last jedi” to take on Palpatine. I’ve reused this line just as the force ghosts appear later to show this is Rey’s fight but they have her back when it comes to her having the strength to force push the final lightning blow, I’ve also rearranged the ghost scene so Luke sticks around to protect Rey from the blast after Palp dies.

Aw, hell, here’s a poll. I’ll check it at the end of the day, about 12 hours from now, and we’ll see. I really don’t much care one way or the other.

And for reference, here’s the clip again: https://vimeo.com/523070856

Hal, I love you bud but really? I can’t think of one good reason to include this line, and you already said you don’t want to!

Haha you’re just scared because “yes” is currently winning.

Hal, I think you should have been more clear with the poll. It should have said, “Use the line in the way I have it posted on vimeo?”. I think too many people are voting yes because they want the line implemented, but I have a hard time believing the way you have it right now is the way we would want it.

But maybe I’m wrong. I just think there are better ways to implement it (like MR suggested).

EDIT: Thank you brother, stole the words out of my mouth.

I want to clarify that like Jar Jar, I only voted no because of how much I dislike how the current line is placed and utilized. If we put it at the end or do what MoviesRemastered is suggesting (essentially, replacing “A thousand generations live in you now” with it), I would be all for it.

The way it’s currently implemented in the Vimeo seems fine to me. But it seems just as fine without it. I really don’t care either way, which perhaps is all the more reason not to use it.

The fact that these dialogue things are in question now highlights the madness we’re currently in!

I think the scene is perfectly fine the way it is originally. I’m sorry for jerking everyone around, and I know I’m not the most decisive leader. Let’s section off this scene, mark it complete aside from the specific Vimeo change with the poll, and move further discussion to the general TROS ideas thread.

To be clear, I’ll abide by the poll results, but it’s between the original scene and the way it is in the clip with the single added line.

JEDIT: Can anyone confirm they voted YES but dislike the clip? If so, the poll isn’t clear and invalid.

My stance on revising fan edits.

I like the idea of adding the line, maybe based on what MR is suggesting. Just at the current state, doesn’t quite work. So I am voting yes, in principal, if it can be used … but not by this “test” clip.

I also like the idea too of removing the “take both sabers” line. On a personal note, it makes it better where it is REY choosing to take it, not being told to do it.

EDIT: plus, it is a nice … “mini surprise” when you see the saber lit up?

“Because you are a PalpaWalker?”

Exactly. I knew people were voting on this incorrectly because the description of the poll wasn’t good enough.

I dislike how obvious it is that the camera zooms in on Rey’s face and then when it reverses it visibly zooms out.

I guess we can’t have this conversation on this thread anymore, but I’m going to see what I can do about this whole ordeal on the other thread.

EDIT: Just noticed that this poll doesn’t seem to prevent people from voting twice either. Might want to consider that as well Hal.

I too voted “Yes” for using the line but not in the context of the posted scene on Vimeo.

All right, well I’ll scrap the poll.

At this point I’ll plan not to alter the dialogue. Let’s move this to the general thread and see if anything comes of it there. I don’t think these changes are necessary.

Perfect. That gives us some time to see if a wizard like MR can pull this off when he gets his stuff back.

If you want to implement the line (or any line in particular) in the future, PM me the full line of dialogue of the scene with no music and I’ll do a clean up of the audio to hide the discrepancies.

The clip hal posted could work, I like what MR is saying about what to do with it.

But in hals clip the line was flat compared to the rest of the dialogue, but a little eq tweak and a compression to the entire line would give it consistency

Okay. This is how I think the scene would best play out.

“A thousand generations live in you now. We’ll always be with you… but this is your fight.”

Completely remove Luke telling Rey to take both sabers with her, which I wasn’t the biggest fan of the line. I think Rey should make that decision herself, rather than being told to by Luke. Very much like how in your edit of Episode II, you removed Mace Windu instructing Anakin to talk to Palpatine about taking Padmé back to Naboo, in order to make Anakin come off as competent and mature. Leia’s saber is something Luke is offering to her, feeling Leia would give it to her at some point when she was alive.

You guys made me unpack my computer for THIS!!! haha.

The line was in stereo so I had to export it to audition and convert it to mono for it to sound right. If anyone knows how to do this within premiere please let me know. Also, have to do the same with “This is your fight” and denoise the soundtrack to clean it up.

I still wanna tweak the shot timings but I think this works well. https://originaltrilogy.com/post/id/1417183/action/topic#1417183
