The Prequel Radical Redux Ideas Thread — Page 186

I posted this elsewhere but it makes sense putting it here too.

In ROTS Grievous tells the Separatists that Mustaphar is a safe planet because it's a volcanic planet.

Why?

We've seen Clone Troopers (and later Imperial Troops) fighting in almost any kind of terrain.

It might make more sense if like Geonosis it's a planet that has been removed from the archives and was known only to Dooku.

If you are going with the theatrical cut style storyline Dooku would have told Sidious about it so Palpatine knows where to send Vader.

If you are going with Dooku being a rogue Jedi maybe Nute Gunray tries to beg for mercy and Palpatine has the call traced.

It's a small throw away line but it makes no sense, adding a bit of a twist on it could open up opportunities for further adjustments.

That line always struck me as kind of weird. As if the planet is safe because it is volcanic. Doesn't make any sense.

I think just cutting "It's a volcanic planet" would suffice. Grievous could just say "I am sending you to the Mustafar system in the Outer Rim. You will be safe there". That's all you need to know.

Or maybe : "I am sending you to the Mustafar system in the Outer Rim. It really bothers my asthma, but you will be safe there".

i think the volcanic planet line should be moved to either at the end after "you will be safe there" or between the word "system" and "in the outer rim"......or just cut

That would be a bit better and a lot tidier but it doesn't explain why they think they would be safe there.

The Clone Wars had spread to the outer rim worlds already.

You know what...this idea could have legs.

Not that Padme replaces Palpatine as the final Emperor but if she were Chancellor and he was her aide whispering lies into her ears as well as Anakin's that would be a major win in terms of story.

All that's missing is the apple (you do get a juicy pear in AOTC though).

i've been browsing alot of those fake trailers on youtube, that combine clips from other movies to make mildly convincing star wars films. it could be a great resource here if we could identify films, and more to the point scenes that could be used in fan edits possibly?

One idea that just popped in my brain for people who want the prune faced look of the Emperor to be his true face (rather than resulting from Mace's reflection of Force Lightning which makes very little sense taking into account the lack of warping on Luke after getting the full blast of the Emperor's lightning in ROTJ).

As an alternative to blacking out the Sidious' face (as Magnoliafan and JasonN have done) it may be possible to add the prune face look onto those scene's (using similar techniques to those used by Ady for his redux of the ESB hologram).

In AOTC Palpatine begins to look gray faced and older but he looks younger in ROTS before his final transformation (presumably because Lucas had changed his mind about having a more gradual transformation).

If the full on pruny look was applied to Sidious it would be as effective a mask as blacking him out and having Palpatine lose the mask could be more instant (as attempted in a number of recent ROTS edit projects) and the audience would instantly link that face with those earlier scenes in the saga.

I was thinking the same thing!

i guess Force lightning is extremely poisonous to a Sith if reflected back to them. i can buy that. and imo, it's an ability exclusive to only the most powerful Sith. what doesn't make sense is how Obi-Wan merely absorbed it to his light saber in AOTC whereas Windu reflected it in ROTS. seriously it depends on the angle in which you hold your light saber?? it's a focused beam of energy come on how would it matter in the least..

I can't believe that the fans are trying to explain why force lightning reflected of Windu's saber and not Obi-Wan's, all because Lucas failed to compose a reasonable story of why Palpatine looks like a monster in ROTJ.

Lucas was too keen to reproduce craft, scenes and characters as they were 16 years later in the timeline of the OT, as I and others have said, its a shame we didn't see earlier versions of Vader & 3PO (like McQuarries designs) or Palps disguise slip when he attacked Windu & gang, only to be nice again when declaring himself Emperor in front of the senate.

Its a miracle that the Falcon didn't make more of a cameo!!

He did no such thing in the edit I choose to watch...

one thing i would love to see is the Red republic colours disapear from the larger ships from AotC onwards

Something Kinda like this -

the blue could then easly spread to the rest of the ship to crate the all over gray look of the OT imperial ships

Like that color correction, Angel. It reveals some details and makes Geonosis look more real. Good job!

About Palpatine's face, I always thought the transformation of Palpatine's face happened because the lightening he generated was reflected back on him. Kind of like a loop. It would have had double the effect on him.

Personally I think the the lightning should be saved as a surprise for ROTJ. But I think it's impossible to remove the lightning from ROTS. Also, if Dooku is a rogue Jedi in an edit, he shouldn't use the lightning either. Maybe just Force push Anakin away.

^It's not perfect but it is rather astonishing.

Imagine what this would be like in a few years time.

You could start imagining recasting the worse offenders, even replacing them with good performances from respected actors from films not so well made.

You really could stick Chris Walken or Klaus Kinski on the Jedi Council etc (they often give/gave really evocative performances in rather awful films).

Peter Cushing could actually be in ROTS and not just a rubber mask.

Ha!!!

I said something to that effect about a year ago.

"The other versions will disappear. Even the 35 million tapes of Star Wars out there won’t last more than 30 or 40 years. A hundred years from now, the only version of the movie that anyone will remember will be the DVD version [of the Special Edition], and you’ll be able to project it on a 20’ by 40’ screen with perfect quality. I think it’s the director’s prerogative, not the studio’s to go back and reinvent a movie." - George Lucas

This is something I've always wanted to achieve in my edit, but I wouldn't know how to remove the lightning. The way my edit is cut at the moment, Anakin charges at Dooku, Obi yells "NO" then we cut to Padme regaining consciousness. When we return to the Dooku scene, Anakin has already been incapacitated, though we don't know how.
