He's ranked number one at deathlist.net for this year.

The forum there normally has an ongoing commentary when a famous person is on the way out. Some may find it offensive, but I find it a morbidly humourous read. The Arafat thread last year was great.

The current Pope is like on of the longest seated Popes in history, right?

Yes he is. He is #2 if you consider modern times popes.

I hope he recovers soon... And I don't think it's funny to make jokes out of the pope's misery. With politicians it's OK, athletes or movie stars maybe, the pope no.

Yeah. An old man dying isn't exactly a laugh riot in my mind.

pope john paul is amazing when you look at all teh stuff he's done and gone through. you know he was teh youngest pope ever elected. and if you add up the distance of all teh trips he has taken in the last 30 odd years, he had gone around the world 30 time. he kissed the ground like like a 100 different countries. and that jsut a few things. he survived an assination too.

i just read a partial bio on him as you might be able to tell.

I'm not sure he is the youngest pope. Maybe in the last 200 years... He is the first non-italian in 450 years...

OK maybe it's because I was born in 1982 and I've only seen John Paul the second as a Pope, and I don't know how it was in 1978 - maybe the same thing happened, but I'm reading these websites and they are all narrating this sad episode of Karol Wojtyla's life as a freaking horse race, "oh he's near death, he's dying, italian TV says he's dead! oh he's not dead yet, but he's not good...", and antecipating on who'll be the next pope... OK maybe it's because I'm from a catholic country and have followed a few catholic traditions (even though, at this part of my life I consider myself to be agnostic), but... uh... dosen't it feel like a mother dying, and the father wanting to marry this other younger girl as soon as possible? Can't we wait to see if he recovers or not?

OK I wish he recovers and go on with his job, he's a role model for everyone on this planet. I hope he recovers so he can talk (and forgive) those italian journalists who are saying he's dead every 5 minutes.

I admire him for both his papacy and his grace in dying.

I don't want him to die, but I also don't want him to suffer.

I wish the new wasn't so obsessed with it.

Just like Terri Schiavo--the man is dying and they are just using it to get a story.

The woman is dying you mean.

But I agree with you, things happen like that all the time and they didn't get the coverage that Terri is getting.

I hate the media.

No. Schiavo is already dead.

I meant the Pope is lying in a hostpital about dead, and they can't keep their flippin' camera's away. I share your hate of the media.

i dont think the pope has any direct family that is still alive.

RIP Pope John Paul.

it has finally happened, the pope john paul has pasted away, i just heard the report on the radio.

chaltab, ill wouldnt put this in the same catagory as the shivo thing, that was stupid. this is the pope, the leader of 1.1 billion christains. his death is something that the world wants to be kept in touch with, because he was such a great man. dont worry they dont have a camera in there taking pictures of the pope, and infact i dont think they will alow anypictures to be taken of him and released to the media. but you think of the amount of good this man has done, the number of lives that he touched. its been said that pope john paul was 50% responsible for the fall of communism. the idealizism would have eventually fallen but if it werent for him, it would have taken alot longer, and would have been alot bloodier. old or not the pope was a world leader, and if any world leader were in teh same shape as him, people would want to know cus it would really effect them, and that is the purpose of the media, to tell ppl whats going on. so i dont hate the media for telling everyone about the popes condition. this is stuff the media should be really talking aobut not things like shivo.

He has relatives living in Brazil, a cousin (who's last name is also Wojtyla) and some more distant relatives. Part of his family imigrated from Poland to Brazil in the 1910s and 1920s. I didn't remember about the pope's cousin until I saw him on TV yesterday, there were a lot of reporters at his home these days.

Rest In Peace, John Paul II, your journey here - in this world - has ended. Now You'll meet the Lord, for whom You have worked so hard during your whole harsh life. We will never forget about You in our prayers.
I saw the original theatrical release of the Old Trilogy on the big screen and I'm proud of it...
How did I accomplish that (considering my age) is my secret...

The pope was a wonderful man; I'm sure you all know how he brought down the Berlin wall and communism with Ronald Reagan. I love him and I'm glad that he didn't suffer for very long before dying. I know that he's in a better place now.

I have my reasons. Definitly don't want to discuss it in an internet forum.
