Now that looks very nice indeed.

As you know from previous discussions, I am not usually into the whole cover thing but that one does stand out above many that I have seen here in recent times.

I am now looking forward to the next 3 to be shown here too.........

If you could send me your menu shots without the watermark, I will add to the GTF pages if you wish.

Out of pure curiosity, if this is your third OT transfer, what are the other two and what has made you decide not to release them???

4 - 5 - 3 - 1 - 6 - 2

- THANKS!, I've worked on and off on this one for about 2 months (3 captures and MANY encodings)

As you know from previous discussions, I am not usually into the whole cover thing but that one does stand out above many that I have seen here in recent times.

- Really??, thanks for the very kind words! I really wanted to recreate the cover to match the LD cover but not to replicate the cover as I feel that most LD backs are WAY TOO busy.

If you could send me your menu shots without the watermark, I will add to the GTF pages if you wish.

- Once they are done

Out of pure curiosity, if this is your third OT transfer, what are the other two and what has made you decide not to release them???

- My 1st transfer was pretty much just for me, I did it back in 1999 and the result was a 6 disc set with the film spread over 2 discs (with menus by ulead), the second was about 2 1/2 years ago now and that one was a DL version that my brother and I both worked on, and at the time we finished it up; about 3 other transfers had just came out (Isomix, Farsight and the Editdroid set - okay well about the same time)

Hey gang YET another HS transfer , this is from WCBS TV2 in New York and has some rough spots but for the majority of the transfer I would say it is rather nice - ALMOST as nice as the KCCI version but I've included a small sample via YOUSENDIT so FOLLOW THIS LINK for a small clip (sorry about the intro I forgot to trim that before I upped it - DOH!)

Looks Good Rikter. You can never have to many copies of the Holiday special kicking around. Especially since if George was wanting to smash every copy. That way you could spend more time telling him to release the OOT. Can't wait to grab this release off myspleen.

Thanks again

Well, I just finished my 3rd OT transfer but this is the first that I will be uploading or sharing, the capture may not be the greatest but the LD was not all that hot to start with (I think it looks better then my tapes ), but I really feel that this transfer really is a fair representation of the SPECIAL WIDESCREEN EDITION Laserdiscs in both menu and cover layout, At the time I started it (about a month or two ago), this set was not yet preserved. I will be uploading these soon and I'm always down for a trade or whatever so drop me an email if interested

Covers look great Rik - glad I could be of (very small) help with this set.
Don't want to be picky, but I think the reissue cover should have the "FOX video" logo on the back instead of the "CBS-FOX" logo, as this is the traditional way to tell the original LDs apart.
Nice menus too - I love the way you've preserved the feel of the LD artwork throughout.

Speaking of this one, how's the video quality? I heard it was a vhs rip, is quality descent, or at least is the sound descent?

You know...(mumbles incoherently) cause if you needed something to upload...that or magfan's version might just be...needing of a...my...spleen...seeding...wink wink...wink

Well, it a transfer of a 4-6 generation VHS tape - It's watchable but it's NOT that great (video quality and edit - his Episode II is a HUGE improvment his skill have improved a TON!!), I also have the VCD which has about the same quality (a little sharper picture - and I mean a little) and I'm now planning on doing a MPEG1 DVD version of the VCD's as a preservation for the original internet uploads of this Edit (now if I can find the text doc that was with them...) - UNLESS the Phantom Editor does forward me a copy first (wink, wink - I think you still have my addy )

You can also drop me an email for details on how to get a copy of the MagnoliaFan Edits via snail mail.

Greetings,

I was checking out BLAK0050 (the reissue of Star Wars with the corrected ratio) and when I checked the last section of the movie, it appeared to my eye that the problem of overmatting was still there. Now are my eyes deceiving me, or is there something else going on? I got my copy from the Star Wars newsgroup... Color me confused.

That's the way it came on the LD

Ah... So the "corrected version" wasn't really corrected that much when the Star Wars LD was reissued later on? Very interesting... Thanks for the info and all of your preservation work.

Updated a few discs over vacation...

Used the HDTV .TS rips from the newsgroups (.TS > DGIndex/TMPGEnc X3 encoded MPEG2) the thing is BLAK0032 has a thin grey bar across the bottom part of the picture (it's there all the time but I didn't notice it after a bit... Sorry gang I tried to 86 it but the result sucked)

BLAK0030: Science of Star Wars: Man and Machines - HDTV to DVD with 16:9 & Dolby 5.1
BLAK0031: Science of Star Wars: Space Cowboys - HDTV to DVD with 16:9 & Dolby 5.1
BLAK0032: Science of Star Wars: War, Weapons and the Force - HDTV to DVD with 16:9 & Dolby 5.1

These will be added to the next upload queue

That grey line is a common problem with HDTV streams - the stream has 1088 pixels vertically but only 1080 are actually used.

Easily sorted by cropping 8 pixels off the bottom before resizing.

Diggity!!

Now I know, thanks for the real facts!!

Here's the lowdown on how I scread it up....

I cropped it in the first version but the stream also has a few commercials that were not cut and the switch from DD 2.0 back to DD 5.1 really got screwed so the sync dropped at varying places (when using the ripped ac3 file with a delay) it was hell to correct so I used the resulting AC3 from HDTV2DVD (not the video though) and remuxed that with the TMPGEnc video I encoded... BUT after the few encoding tests and such (for better results) I ended up loading all new settings in TMPGEnc then muxed the video, checked sync (fine) deleted the .TS files, then authored the DVD only then did I notice the grey line You see I honestly spaced out the cropping of the final version!!! I should have redone the encoding but I started the Blade Runner video shortly after.... This set should have gone smoother but the audio stream just drove me crazy and I took the fast way out after three days of messing with it.
