Cutting an entire series down to that time is very impressive. I’m glad you cut the baby yoda scene although others may be a little upset. 😄 Do you think the work print will be available to view soon?
Everything has looked great so far. Just curious what the runtime is at this point?
2h 36mins
I was hoping to get it down to 2h 30mins but haven’t quite managed it. Mainly because its difficult to cut much out of the village episode without it feeling rushed.
I’ve also now removed the Baby yoda eating scene after your suggestion.

And the nice thing is that despite all the cuts, it still has a lovely pace to it. The only slight issue is walking straight to the Mudhorn cave, but cutting the Jawas was a key thing to do for pacing. I’m going to try tinkering with that scene to see if I can add a small line of dialogue.
I’ve completed a full second watch- through and made most of the adjustments, so the first print should be ready for a couple of test viewers within a week. The only tasks remaining are a touch-up of the opening pan shot and changing the closing music.

Since it should be in the classic Star Wars film-style: Will there be Star Wars end credits in typical blue writings and font? 😃

Of course!

That’s awesome! 😃
Would be great if there was some dialogue to help explain the cave scene but not a deal breaker for me.
The final piece in the jigsaw… the closing scene and iris-out to credits.
Total running time weighing in at 2h 31mins.
I now just need to do a technical check of the audio channels and transcode a 720 version for a couple of test viewers.

Looks good but is there a particular reason why you didn’t have the Razor Crest jump to hyperspace before the credits? Here’s a rough version:

A couple of reasons.
I didn’t think that a blank space image made a good iris-out shot… it looked better with the Razorcrest in full view.
Having the Razorcrest slowly moving through space fits with the long, slow journey ahead of them.

Those are both good reasons.
Just for the fun of it, I made a version where the music builds up and then goes straight into the SW closing theme to make it a little more climactic. This only required a few trims. Thoughts?

I haven’t been following this, but I’ll look forward to making this my method for preparing for season 2!
I know I’ve made some very poor decisions recently.
Episode 1 is done. I have DM’d the three users that were interested in a test viewing. The final version looks like being ready to go by the end of July!

So, I’m tinkering with a few scenes that I’m not 100% happy with. First up is the Mudhorn.
I’m trying to cut it together so that the Mudhorn is already out of the cave when Mando walks into the Valley. Here is a rough cut. Let me know what you think

I’d also love a link for a test viewing!
I like the idea of the Mudhorn already waiting outside the cave. I’m at work so I’ve only seen the clip on my phone with no volume, but I wonder if it would make sense to flip the shot of the Mudhorn roaring. It seems to mess a little with the 180-degree rule as it doesn’t seem to be roaring at the Mando.
I’d like a link too, if you’re still sending them. If not, I can wait for the final release.
My preferred Skywalker Saga experience:
I II III IV V VI VII VIII IX
So here is my finished Mudhorn scene edit with the cave cut out. It works a lot better than the previous cut and removes the issue of the Mandalorian entering the cave for no apparent reason.

Perhaps you could edit the Mando out of this shot to incorporate it as the Mudhorn actually coming out of the cave once he sees it? 🤔
I tried that originally. However it takes a lot of zoom to cut Mando out and that accentuates shaky cam.
I’m happy with the current cut. It’s certainly better than walking into the cave for no reason!

I have three volunteers already and I’m hoping that will be sufficient. Thanks for the offers.

In the final stages now. Feedback coming in from the test viewings and some minor adjustments being made.
Running time now down to 2:29:49… Finally made it under the magic 2h 30mins!

Previews look great. Can’t wait to see the finished product as this has been the best thing to come out of the Disney Star Wars era (IMO)
& RO (IMO).
just a correction to the end titles preview: There’s no “h” in Jon Favreau. Also, the directors credits should probably be all on the same card instead of split over two.
Also, it’s a thing I see a lot around here, but I feel like aiming for a runtime for the sake of hitting the runtime instead of letting the runtime be whatever it is naturally when you feel the pacing is perfect is a practice that only makes sense when you’re a studio actively trying to squeeze out as many screenings as possible.
If you’re fan-editing, and it’s never going to be in a theater, there’s no real reason to aim for runtime benchmarks for the sake of nothing other than hitting the benchmarks. Usually this concern goes the other way (people refusing to cut a movie under a certain runtime because then it’ll be “too short” despite the fact “too short” doesn’t mean anything in the abstract like that) but if you feel like you had the pacing really solid a couple edits back and the only reason you pushed it to go shorter is just so you can say you pushed it shorter, I’d suggest maybe re-thinking that inclination and really giving that longer cut a rewatch to see if it really does just feel better at the prior length.
Anyway, I’m very glad to see you’re back to fanediting and I’m very much looking forward to seeing how this project turns out.

Thanks for the spelling Correction.
In terms of having a target runtime, the reason I use it as a guide is because I’m editing TV episodes into a movie. It gives an indication of whether there is too much or too little material to produce a movie. Over 2.5 hours suggests there is too much being crammed in, and 2 separate movies is a better option. Throughout this edit I felt I’ve been pushing things to put it into a single movie.
I agree the feel and pacing is more important, but in my experience sitting down to watch something over 2.5 hours is challenging, no matter how good it is!
